Totally agree with xXshanex, what will it bring if we compare all guitar players of every band. Get the hell out of your shell and enjoy the music and don't look for drawbacks of them.....besides that i think kirk hammet is one of the best, and there is plenty of them and if u doubt about it u probably never heard him playing other than from the record....bye bye
This was so cool to hear Dave do this and to think what would things have been like if he stayed with the band . The question remains would they still have been as popular ? I always thought Kirk Hammett was a better guitar player and placed # 11 in Rolling Stone magazine in the best 100 guitar players of all time . Maybe if Dave hadn't become so strung out on drugs/ alcohol at such a young age the band would have kept him.
Yeah just looked up the list that is one of the worst list I ever seen. I mean Eddie Van Halen at 70, Randy Rhoads at 85, and Tony Iommi at 86. Terrible, terrible list. Surprised Eddie Van Halen wasn't like 5 because everyone seems to think he's the greatest guitarist even though he's not bad, he just seems like he's qualified for the overrated guitarist award if you know what I mean. Didn't even see Marty Friedman, Dave Mustaine, Kerry King, Dimebag, or anyone else good mentioned.
Yeah Dave did most of the solos and the baseline is his credit, but Kirk's finishing touches made them EXPLODE!!!!! And that's so confirmed on this recording.
@7Whitewolf3 Hit the lights was made before dave was in the band. Motorbreath did he write in his car after he was finished work, seek and destroy was james hetfield. and dave have already said what song he co-op.. the mechanix is all his. and it's creditet. with his name on. they both play Lead guitar. he co-op made some riffs in 3 others songs. if you co-op wrote a song in a band. ithen it's the property to the band.. friedman is credited for his work or should he take the his solos with him
@7Whitewolf3 because Metallica realized he was the one with the lasting talent and they felt insecure and decided to steal it cuz they suck weiner lol
@7Whitewolf3 dave didnt get credit for the other songs cuz those were not his riffs.phantom lord, the four horseman, jump in the fire,n metal militia were the riffs he wrote.but like the other songs on kill em all they had, kirk change the solos n add in additional parts.
I think that Kirk is the better of the two in terms of tallent, but Dave is just so unique, not only in his playing, but his writting. Still i think Metallica is the better band, but not by much, because both bands kick so much ass.
damn! dave is crazy! :D i hate that ppl think that kirk was in first album... but dave did good job!! so as othwer mambers that year... kirk has nothing too do with this album... he just change some thinks... but dave was the one who was before him!
@HighLifetage I wouldn't agree. Mustaine is a better guitarist than James. His riffs are better, he plays solos, and his vocal lines are way harder. James sings when he hits a chord or strums, Dave sings right in the middle of riffs, Dave is more technically advanced. Vocal style is a matter of preference
@0intelligence0 your comment is senseless... James' riffs are tecnically more creative and better than Megadeth's; James doesn't play solos in Metallica are designated to Kirk playing, not as Megadeth, which is Dave's band, with no offence. James, when he plays solos, I would reccomend you listen to the first fast solo in Suicide & Redemption, Fight Fire with Fire (the second solo was written by James) or James soloing Estasy of Gold... that is much more melodic than Megadeth fast solos.
@0intelligence0 Also, James' voice is much more melodic and variated than Daves's, and it isnt true that Dave sings during difficult riffs... Vocal style, as you said is a matter of preference, but as a musician James is the most complete one, compared to Kirk, Lars and the rest of the members of both bands
@HighLifetage It isn't true? What do you mean? You try singing to Poison Was The Cure, Take No Prisoners, Black Friday, Skull Beneath The Skin... And James, for instance, on Whiplash and Seek and Destroy he sings only when he's strumming E string. What about Wake Up Dead and Washington Is Next, one technical and one melodi-technical solo. James is the best musician in the band (Lars sucks lol), and him and Dave both have awesome riffs, but Dave makes better thrash riffs.
Only 7,571 hits wtf is wrong people. so much better than And Hair Cuts For All. Megadeth rules and Metallica is just a bunch of armature song writers with out Dave and Cliff.
Dave's influence is all over this. The main riff sounds like later Megadeth riffs. Ditto the solo. Compare to the Kill 'em All recording. I like this version better, but that's a matter of taste. This feels like Judas Priest rerecorded in a basement by Eddie Van Halen on speed. If that's not your thing, you may prefer Kirk's version.
I was reading Mustaine's book and when I hit the part talking about this demo I wanted to hear it again to remind myself of how great Mustaine's songs were. But I have to say the whole thing is a freakin' masterpiece.
I fuckin love all of the demos, been listening to them all day now lol, solos are pretty good but i prefer kirk's version, i'm not saying he's better.
@7Whitewolf3 And are we supposed to listen to someone that spells and capitalizes like you? No, he was not a part of writing any of those songs....sorry.
Im pretty sure this demo is all in Eb, which is interesting because it sounds great. However, whenever I hear Metallica play tunes off of other albums (RTL, MOP and AJFA) Eb doesn't seem right at all to me.
WTF every video i have been too is all "kirk is better than dave!" "dave is better than kirk!" SHUT UP! metallica is badass! megadeth is badass! they are both incredible guitar players. enjoy the music and keep in mind.. if dave was never kicked out there would be NO megadeth

@xXshanexSCR34MXx correct sir things happpend but overall it was for the better (dave mustaine is still a bit pissed though) ron mcgoverny was really pissed lol
From what I heard about the bass on Justice is that James used a really "Scooped" eq on his tone, similar to how you do metal bass. Jason pretty much followed the rhythm guitar parts exactly, so what ended up happening was that the guitars and bass were pretty much at the same frequency and battling for the same space in the mix, so the bass got turned down in favor of the guitar.
Shame, because Jason really is a good bass player, just listen to Garage Days.
That's why there's a lot of effort on make some justice on Jason's work in AJFA. Cause we, the fans, are those who can put justice in all this besides Metallica behaviour.
lmao, the reason you can't hear the bass in Justice is because there isn't any! they decided to leave it out as a tribute to Cliff after he died, but like you said, there are "enhanced bass" versions with it mixed in

There's no cadence,what-so-ever,to any of hisriffs! They all come to

he tries to bend into key, while in a drunken stupor.
