just bring over the entire denominator to the numerator of the other side.

However, when there's something like that in the numerator or denominator, you should put parentheses around the terms because it will help you remember to DISTRIBUTE! you must distribute to get correct answers

(1) / (8) = (4x-2) / (5)

after Xmultiplying you get:

(8) (4x-2) = 5

then you distribute and solve:

24x - 16 = 5

24x = 21

x = 21/24

its because your trying to find out what x is. and if you have 4x, in order to get rid of four you have to divide it by itself
