The trick you show is definitely helpful, but in this instance using the brightness/contrast filter didn't accomplish much more than the built-in dip to color dissolve (set to white) can do automatically. Hence, it may be a custom transition, but it's not very unique. Where this trick becomes very useful is when using other filters, such as stylize, distort, or 3rd party plugins.
hi, i edit CoD videos and i use sony vegas alot and all i do is effect the clips and clean it up a lil but in final cut pro i have to wait like 30mins rendering some times with the smallest effects hoping you can do a tutorial/show me a tutorial
@ThePostEdit I know what you mean! My MacBook Pro is an early 2008 model, and it really struggles these days with rendering. It's really all about the processor you use depending on how quick a video renders. Although, in order to minimilise the amount of rendering you need to do, try to match your video codec (for example, DV - Pal) with the timeline codec. You can adjust your default timeline settings under Audio/Video settings and the Sequence Presets tab (found under the Final Cut Pro tab).
thank you, very helpful. Could you do the same thing to get a black transition instead of white? Also how can you get one scene to merge into the next on pc software i had a transition called cross fade but i cant figure how to do it on fcp?
@rucko77 No worries! Basically the black transition can be done using the "Fade in Fade out" transition under Effects > Video Transitions > Dissolve tab. The cross fade transition you are looking for in FCP can be found under the same tab as the "Fade in Fade out" transition, or FCP has a shortcut for it - Command + T. It's a simple as that!
Awesome trick! Thanks!

To help you move faster in the effects window try shift I and Shift O to go to first and last frames. Thanks for the tutorial.

Do you mean with the key framing? Is that where it gets you? Sure I can do another in detail one if you'd like.
