I did this very same thing in about 1980 to a '58 Ford with a 292 V8. Drained the oil, drained the water, put a brick on the throttle and walked away. After a few minutes it slowed to a stop but didn't "blow". Went back the next day and it fired right up and drove it away to be crushed.
