I was blessed to see and experience the rainbow tour at a "Day on the green" many years ago, just unforgettable I must say the combo of those two(Dio/ Blackmore, try to match something like that today, would be like klause and malmsteen? we should only try and dream!
the one dislike was a blackmores night fan or a 10 year old x factor fan either way they must be mad ive got this concert on dvd and it is pure rock n roll in the days before blackmore went gay todays blackmore is an old mental case the blackmore of the 70,s was one of the best players ever and a bad motherfucker
i think the coments are correct ...maybe due to ritchies arrogant nature rainbow never attempted to crack the american market . as a band they were better musicaly than any other band . not to late for americans to get into it though . this stuff is timeless.....
everybody is Talking About How Sabbath And Zepplin were the reigning kings of Rock Music in the 70's,But Rainbow is as good (or even better) as Zepplin or Sabbath.legendary singer,a guitar Master and an awesome drummer, Rainbow Had it All, it's one of the greatest Bands of All Time, yet, it's also one of the underrated bands who were eclipsed by zepplin or sabbath. It's a Shame That The Blackmore, J.Dio and Powell Line didn't Last long Enough to give us another master pieces. LONG LIVE RAINBOW!!
@SHIN8MOUADH I'm not quite sure "everybody" is right. Might be wrong but growing up in Europe, I had the notion that everybody considered Deep Purple to be the greatest, biggest rock band. And Rainbow was the direct continuation of the old Deep Purple. Neither I nor anyone I knew considered Zeppelin or Sabbath to be at the same level. Sure they were great too and some totally prefered them. Taste. But this Zeppelin=biggest seems a US thing. And sure, US kinda overlooked Deep purple. Their loss.
I never listened to DIO, but sure it's a great loss!! ... and i just wanted to say that at the beginning the guitarist played Jesu bleibt meine freund from J.S Bach... probably 96 % of the audience didn't know...
Blackmore is a superb guitartist who always lacked discipline, Dio a fantastic singer who did much for dwarfs, a tremendous song, beautiful song, but just a little too long.
@MrHollywoodPirate Yes, it does in some short verses. Blackmore said in an interview ( can't remember if it was Guitar Player or Guitar World magazines .. I have it somewhere ) that for this song he was inspired by Little Wing and for instance for DPuple's Lazy he was inspired by Clapton's Steppin' Out ! cheers !
I was sad when Ritchie left DP in 1975 but when I listened to Rising, then On Stage and finally LLRnRoll ... I thought who cares about DP as along as there's Rainbow ! Those albums ( including their first S/T RBRainbow ) are absolutely awesome, masterpieces ! Thanks to Ritchie, Ronnie, Cozy and other members
I love Ronnie James Dio......so much music.....so amazing. Props to Ritchie Blackmore for plucking this "mystical midget" out for ELF. I will never stop listening
Everyone who loves music should have seen and listen this, Ronnie James DIO don’t only sing about “Magica” he (and this Lineup) creates magical and unforgettable moments, that will last forever!!!
Compare to todays crap, I wish, the 70´ back into my live. That was music that will stay forever. Dio and Ritchie at the top of the epic metal sound , created in that era.R.I.P Ronnie. You´ve been the hero of my live, when I was young. Today, nearly 60 years of age, I still listen to your music.
I saw Opeth cover this song at B.O.A, surprisingly Mikaels vocals handled everything pretty well, it was an impressive tribute, however, nothing compares to the original.
This was the first album I got at 15, that I loved to death, Ritchie Blackmore and Dio became my idols, and the first song I wanted to perfect on guitar.

I like how Dio humored us all by using a mic, when clearly he could have sung without one and everyone in a 20,000 seat arena would hear him.
