As already mentioned by others, terrible equipment and clothing for the weather. Also, finding a place to pitch where you are sheltered from the wind is always a good idea.... Having said that... Amusing!
EXTREME camping? Pah! You got off lightly there. I used to live in a caravan on the next farm along which got blown into the stream just behind it, in the night while I slept!! But the south Walian who thinx you only got caught in a light breeze obviously doesn't know the name of the valley where you were ~ 'Dyffryn Mymbyr', which is known for it's East/West winds howling down the valley.
OK, note to self... set your tents up where there is a WIND BREAK, secure them with stakes in the ground... ground screws are ideal. TIE SHIT DOWN! and for God sakes, less beer and MORE COMMON SENSE!
I recon hollywood were behind this with there wind motors as our welsh wind are far more stronger than this - your all still standing. Try this spot for next season "crib goch" - flat as a pan cake, easy to get to and there a hotel if you look for it with all the mod cons. You can even hire a hang glider for the real thing tingle just aim it for Australia! takes about an hour on a good cymru wind!
That campsite looks almost as much a shambles as if Chuck Norris himself went on a rampage through it. Take actual tents and clothes rather than beer and hoodies is my advice ha ha.
Wow, and I thought the rainy Bank Holiday weekend in 2010 was bad. I hope you all recovered well enough to keep on camping, with perhaps better equipment next time! Take care.
The point I'm trying to make is you don't necessarily need or even want to buy the best or most expensive tent, you want to buy the tent that fits it's use.
If it's a drunken rampage in the country or festival I'm inclined to go for the cheap tent, (parking your car not too far away less it gets destroyed by the weather or your 'friends')
OK, I was one of the drunken youngsters. Yup all/most of the tents are cheap, Halfords/Argos. I helped put a couple of them up, some we see standing others not. Biggest factor in determining which are standing and which are seen floating away into the sky is position in releation to the farmers wall and the direction of wind.
Sure more expensive tents would fare alot better in the conditions. However, it's unclear how well such tents would hold up against drunken frenzied attacks by morons. :o)
judgeing by the bottles and the footware held up by the guy these tents were put up by youngsters, drunks or both. notice one of the cheepest tents there is still standing which gives new meaning to putting up your tent correctly. i have had worse when i let other put up the tent its just an adventure lol
Dam right, Stuart. This happened overnight on a site i was at in the Lakes last year, except I was in a F10 Vortex. First indication I had that the weather had turned was when I arose from my undisturbed sleep to see every other shelter on the site flattened. Part of me was quite smug.
Cheap tents, dozens of empty beer bottles and clearly the wrong clothing; hope you have learnt mountains are not to be taken lightly. I climb in Scotland regularly and you really need to look after yourselves much better, as the weather can be easily under-estimated!
Notice how warwick uses nondescript phrases such as "did save some stuff" and "plenty of helping!" Ahh but in all fairness there's only so much you can do when you've got your hands full with a camera.
Oh dear!

Dont ever erect an English tent in Snowdonia. You're lucky the wind took it.

This is why you always go for a solid 4 season tent. Any higher-end 4 season tent would laugh at these winds.
