He would then use all the souls of the Amestrian people he killed as a sort of fuel to take on truth. Once he had the power of what is the equivalent of god in the FMAB universe Father would finally consider his quest of becoming a truly perfect being complete.

He thought of humans as beings that were far from perfect and associated the seven deadly sins with humans. So, in his quest for perfection, he removed those characteristics and gave them physical form as homunculi to use as pawns. Father's plan would have worked just fine if he hadn't misjudged the humans.
