  • Luckiest 5 people alive....... XD

  • @BobSleighization correction: 6

  • @BobSleighization and also im pretty sure they are all semi famous

  • @MrBaseman111 Fodera Yin-Yang Deluxe, upgrade to the Yin-Yang Standard. Only 6 Deluxe are made and 30 Standards are made per year... Just looked it up myself :D

  • what bass is victor wooten playing? everyone who know that?

  • Comment removed

  • Victor, thank you I am teaching and the chromatic scale is the first scale I tech. Its the easiest to remember. The work is playing the scale starting from all keys.

  • You must always practice the chromatic, and diatonic scales before you start playing. C'mon chromatic, and diatonic scales are esscentials lessons, begginers lessons.

  • @Video Description: ...never more than a half step from a *RIGHT* note. As said in the video. World of difference... Also more encouraging.

  • @2:45 ... the secret of life was revealed to the asian guy

  • Bass windu..

  • My rule is similar, if you are improvising to chords and forget what key your in hit a random note, if it fits good. If not slide up a semi-tone and claim to be a musicial genius.

  • @SamMerrell1 Or like Miles Davis said "If you hit the wrong note, play it twice so the audience thinks it's supposed the be that way"

  • dude really knows what hes talking about

i love this just for the theory

  • @2:45 the asian dude was like: WOOOOW!!

    He"s not even blinking!

  • @lucasvincentcardoso hahaha you motherfucker!!! hahahahaha

  • omg I love this guy, eventhough I'm a guitarist I'd love to be with this group with my instrument to hear this "musictheorie guru" :D

  • me = fat quiet guy in the back

  • ha ha look at them all with the Foderas...

  • He's so humble and wise

  • "I recommend practising the chromatic scale" HAHAHA

  • I kinda disagree with the root point. The root is the most important because it gives context to the other notes. The only way music works is indeed staying in key for at least a minimal amount of time.

  • Turn on subtitles and bass is talking to you at start and at the end of this vid :D

  • Victor Wooten Bass Lesson:take your thumb and then do this! BAYMZIKAWOUBAyMZIKAWOUWOU!

  • Wait C Maj??? 5 accidentals. I don't think so somebody please correct me

  • @TheGus619 C Maj has no accidentals. What he's saying is that C Maj (lika any other key) has five notes that are "wrong". It so happens that in C Maj the "wrong" notes are the black keys on the piano that he's talking about.

  • @fivetimesyo

OH, i see lol. He is talking about the notes you shouldn't hit, I'm not a bassist but enjoy watch Wooten explain things

  • His philosophy of music is just amazing!

  • Im not a bass player, but he's a great teacher!

  • 0:00 beginning of As I Am By Dream Theater

  • @metalhead3671 I was just about to say that, then i read your comment :( haha

  • @metalhead3671 oh yes.. Im pretty sure it was on Family Guy at some point... THUMBS UP IF FAMILY GUY BROUGHT YOU HERE!!

    ...idiot

  • The very beginning was stolen from As I Am by Dream Theater... just saying

  • The bass is a great instrument. This guy is very literal on what we see in front of us for what we play or what we want play if your a beginner. I kind of felt like this video was a theropy session more than an actual lesson on bass. Nothing wrong with that. Down to earth, nice guy. The chromatic scale is cool in a sense because it connects any thing you want if you want to use it.

  • 2:08 I couldn't help laugh at the guy in the back with the two chins.

  • A great teacher

  • he seems like a great guy

  • does somebody know who are the students victor is teaching?full names or something? especially of the guy with the fodera sixstring (named joe i think), i like his style, when he does solos on the dvd.

  • i would love to pay for a lesson from this guy

  • 12 notes: 7 are right and 5 are wrong, even if I guess, I'm gonna hit a right note more than half the time...epic!

and remember: YOU ARE NEVER MORE THAN A HALF STEP AWAY FROM A RIGHT NOTE!

  • ...At first I thought this dude was Samwell o_o"

  • Thats right kids, Black Keys are wrong, Whites the way to go.

  • @ClumsySandbocks hell yeah!

  • Read his book, it's like this, but it's even more in-depth, and properly opens your mind to music and how to play, without preaching techniques or sounds.

  • Comment removed

  • These fuckers look so excited to meet one of the best bass players in the universe...

  • Been lookingfor this for ages

  • @magickpsychonaut musicians friend sells it for 10$ less than at Hudsonmusic

  • He reminds me of a preacher when he teaches :)

  • the Asian dood has a sick bass

  • this guy is a godly bass player and a great orator

  • he was wrong once, lots of people practice chromatic scale........

  • @zolenors i take it you werent at that groove workshop then

  • Very well explained, this is the very same thing I have been talking to my students about.

  • "Victor explains that you are never more than a half step from a wrong note" (original description), NO!NO!NO! He says "you are never more than half a step from a RIGHT note", which is much more a positive and usable way of thinking AND FEELING

  • half of what he says is genius, but that chromatic shit is pointless. it's literally random notes at that point.

  • where can i sign up for his live classes???

  • genious!

  • im only jokin when i say this but when hes talkin about the white and black keys i cnt help but feel insecure...

  • I love this guy. Brilliant musician and he exudes intelligence, confidence and peacefulness.

  • I feel like this is a philosophy lesson xD

  • i love how victor is one of the best bass players of our time and he doesnt use any of the stupid 6 or 7 string basses just keeps it simple you dont need more than four string much love for victor

  • @archynelson whats stupid about a 6 string bass

  • @n4s250 no affence but you dont need it larry graham never had a six string look how many bass players he's inspired

  • This guy is such an inspiration

  • Victor Wooten for president!!!

  • What a wonderful and insightful explanation about scales and keys. I gotta get this DVD.

  • @yourusernamehere2

    You don't get it then

  • Dude, a bass lesson from Vic? Pinch me!

  • Oh. My. Goodness. If I was blind I would say that Denzel Washington was speaking.

  • Vic: "There is no black key on the piano, that doesn't have a white key on either side. What is that telling you?"

Me: "Piano makers are racists!" XD

  • @GabbaDav your a faggot XD

  • @GabbaDav hahahahahaha niiiice.

  • @GabbaDav That doesn't even make sense

  • @GabbaDav

well...I'd say they weren't....they could've segregated them or removed them altogether...just sayin'

sounds like "affirmative action" to me.

  • @GabbaDav When you augment a white key, what do you usually get? A black key!

  • but in clavecin is the opposite.

  • @GabbaDav Lets keep this comment at 88 likes for the 88 keys people.

  • brilliant!

  • 4 people only land on wrong notes and ragequit the bass

  • ok this didn't help at all. why didnt he skip all the b.s and just say, learn the chromatic scale? duh.

  • @yourusernamehere2 please, die

  • if you wanna learn your neck, that's usefull but improvisation can't be reduced to playing the right notes to a given key...

  • @Fjord76 True, but that's not what he's saying. He's saying that you are never too far away from a rotten note. He's not saying that at all. He never said scales are completely pointless, he just said the idea and the way we're setting this up isn't working, which is true.

  • @Fjord76 yeah but you're taking this lesson out of context. There is a whole other part of this session where he explains why out notes are cool.

  • I actually use that scale lol

  • i love how he's a professional bassist and he still only uses 4 strings(true bass player)

  • genius... that's all i have to say

  • hes as good at teaching as he is playing

  • intro to wootenism 101

  • musical genius

  • I have NO fucking idea what the hell this guy is talking about, but I feel like a better bassist because of it :D

  • LOL at the description.

  • @vonroden sometimes (especially in jazz) , people use "weak" notes deliberately on "strong" beats to make a sort of musical statement. "I want this sound, and i'll be damned if its not in the key" :) Something that my jazz professor told me: "This is *your* solo, there are no wrong notes!" the key (lol pun) is to know what you're playing and know what function it serves in the key you're playing in. that way, you know what you can do to lead up to and resolve those "wrong" notes.

  • @FVmike That's exactly it. You can play ANY note and make it work, as long as its intentional. You still have to learn the scales, the intervals, and the chords, and only then do you know how to make all of the notes work for you. Music easily becomes stale and predictable if you don't learn how to use accidentals, appogiatura, and chromaticism, how to modulate, how to "borrow" notes. Its why I can't listen to the radio anymore.

  • I would have just enjoyed being in the same room as all those kick ass basses.

  • i not speaking english! please!!! portuguese brazilian legend!! thank you!!!

  • @0:46 they look so bored !!! what's wrong with them ? dude in the beige jacket looks like he wants victors dick

  • Sadly this is only true for diatonic scales (I think that's what they're called atleast)

  • the guy with the red bass at :19 is like SHIT im stupid

  • God it would be awesome if my dad gave lessons that epic..

  • Im gonna put that in the Holy Bass Bible lol

  • @HM2028 want to help me to write that?

  • @MrBananenflap Yea lets do it lol

  • @HM2028 in what language? ;)

  • @MrBananenflap All languages! Every bass player need to hear this lol!

  • @HM2028 okay, where do you live? maybe we can meet to write it hehe

  • how can three people not like this?

  • so true

  • victor wooden eats flea's for breakfast

  • Genius.

  • now i know who makes obamas speeches

  • @whatterer Don't disgrace Victor like that :)

  • @whatterer Hahaha that's so funny you said that I can totally see what you're saying hahah

  • I like how calmly he talks, but when he plays, the 4 horsemen are unleashed -.-

  • this better be worth my 30 bucks -_-

  • nice dream theater intro

  • this is AWESOME!!

  • true genius right here

  • Bassmaster Denzel W!!!

  • @steelplushie15 i am victor, but you may call me sensei. now, welcome to 'how to play amazing kick ass bass' 101

  • Vic is a smart man when it comes to seeing the big picture of music

  • Hes the man

  • one word, genius

  • he sounds like jedi!

  • i've chose listen a victor wooten bass lesson for less of 3 minutes and a half..., and i got enough things to practising for a month xDDDD

  • that wasn't much of a lesson..

  • Those students are lame. Not one of them smiling... If I was being taught how to play bass by Wooten I would be smiling. I think I should be in the place of one of those students. They simply do not deserve to be in the presence of such a great musician.

  • @thatguyyoudontfeel i just spent a week with victor in a class setting... as i looked around, a lot of the other students jaws were on the floor and looked like they were melting. at times, some were even crying. i'm not kidding. some of the things he said were so profound it was mind blowing. but yeah, i was smiling like an idiot the whole time, but then again i dont play bass... I just loved to hear him talk about music.

  • 2:08 guy on far left: 'I want to touch his hair... and his chocolate salty balls... Mmmm'

  • i thing the white guy with the red and plack bass is gay lol

  • @arthurayala your Gaydar is strong. We all know what this means.

  • @liennto yea it means ur a fag

  • @arthurayala wow that was a really good comeback!

  • everyone is looking at him like they aren't sure when they are suppposed to start learning.

  • i'll be getting this DVD soon :P

  • THE MEXICAN DUDE KNEW THE ANSWER.

  • in this lessen 49 and a half weman were inpregnated by wooten

  • kool

  • Dave Parker is a guitar genius prodused(Mark Geifmann)

  • wow... words of pure pureness

  • lmaooo i try so hard not to put the black key and white key thing as a non racial thing hahaha

  • @JFrostz since when have white people ever been "right" when it comes to bass?

  • @SelfDestruct12 the day i picked one up and decided to play it as my main inst.

  • @36hcupsizeandgrowing nice. By the way, I'm a white bass player too, but I'm not that good. The Scandinavian in me has pushed me towards lead guitar

  • Greatest DVD EVER. Period. It forced me to re-approach music in a good way :)

  • Actually what he does by approaching via the chromatic (and this is not meant to be wrong in any way) scale is randomly "reengineering" the chord-scale approach which connects a certain scale to every single chord and which is the approach that almost all jazz musicians use. He has practiced it so long that he's got the feeling for it but learning scales to the according chords and really focussing the sound of each chord type will get you there much faster. Still, this is my point of view

  • Now I'm not just saying saying this because I'm a Wooten fan but the guy KNOWS how to teach. It would be a treat to learn from him.

  • who are those bassist that he is teaching

  • @jvmc08 the worlds luckiest people

  • @jvmc08 Im pretty sure the Asian bass player in the front if from Dream Threater. Thats all I know. They also have Victor Wooten. lol but in all seriousness I only know the guy from Dream Threater. And there is a chance thats not him. But im pretty sure it is.

  • @Writerman100 That's definitely not John Myung. But then again all Asians do look a like.

  • The asian guy staring is hilarious.

  • look at the guy on the left with the red/black bassguitar on 2:45. his thinking : damn, i lost the beginning, the middle and the end of what he said XD

  • k you got me. where do i buy this.

  • what about the harmonic minor scale..

  • You're only 1 half note from a right note and simply practice the chromatic scale.

    Those are TRUE WISE WORDS!

  • i want to have classes with victor wooten

  • That's "As I Am", from Dream Theater in the intro right? XD

  • Is that the Bassist from all the remains the female one

    Fogot her name lol

  • The tips of his fingers are HUGE!!

  • chromatic scale my god its so simple great advice on makiong it go against/with a chord

  • he is god

  • That little intro synth piece is from Dream Theater's "As I Am". xD

  • @ecxpac Indeed

  • @ecxpac Thats what I was going to say but you beat me to it 6 months ago

  • Great lesson

  • alright that settles it I am getting that dvd x)

  • Ahhh it ended so abruptly. I need to learn more!! but I don't want to spend $40 for the DVD.

  • @ryandonian

It's worth every cent! Word :-)!!

  • I love how he's so calm about it and how the people are all so into it. Great stuff.

  • "You're only 1 half note from a right note" The 'wrong' note can work as a Leading tone to the right note, Correct?

That sentence made musicanship rise a couple of meters (still need to along way to the top :)

Placment is key too, Safe/strong note on strong beats and weak notes on weak beat or off beat

  • @vonroden half *step
