The MiG-21 shown in this video is actually a Chinese-built model called the Chengdu F-7. You can tell because the "razorback" is gone; i.e. the cockpit sticks up in the profile
to be honest i think most of these planes (including part 1) look kinda boring, like they didn't bother with detail and color when they made them. the graphics don't look too good either
@PolytoneZebraGuy most jets have little or no paint or grafics on them in real life so they didnt bother with them in the game lol but i dont like the stats e.e the sr-71 black bird is capable of mach 5 fastest jet engine plane created yet it relied on speed to avoid detection and to avoid being shot down :P
I know HAWX isn't meant to be realistic (dispte the Tom Clancy name on the damn box) but the F-14 Tomcat (the super tomcat preferably I guess) is missing some sort've trait that allows it to use Phoenix AA Mssiles. Thats a fail. The Only F-111 is the E class (Raven), why no Aardvark ? And why the hell does it have a small payload? There's an F-117 and even an A-10. There's even an F-4!! (which could be equipped for some insane ground strikes)... but no Panavia Tornado. WTF Ubisoft...
@RTiger18 The Su-35 is a pretty good comparison to our F-22. Sure the F-22 has stealth, but the Su-35 has all-rotating thrust vector nozzles compared to the F-22's that only move up and down. It's a shame there isn't a forward swept wing fighter in production today, the Su-47 is my favorite jet. The PAK FA promises to be an even better F-22 comparison.
@RTiger18 Don't worry about it, favorite as many planes as you like. If you force me to pick, mine are the F-22, YF-23, F-35, F/A-18E, F-15S/MTD (ACTIVE), and A-10 from the US. Then Su-47, MiG-1.44 and PAK FA from Russia, so a pretty mainstream list. The F-14 has basically become immortalized as a result of Top Gun's popularity and also as the staple craft in the Afterburner games, but as with everything it must be replaced at some point.
@SuaveTito I saw somethng on the history channel a while back. They was talking about getting rid of the f-14. I was mad about it. They was saying how it was a great plane and all that. They gave it one more mission and then that was it. I turned the tv off.
@RTiger18 It's true, as of 2/8/06 (coincidentally the day after my birthday), it's been replaced by the Super Hornet. Despite its age, the F-14 is the only fighter fitted with the AIM-54 Phoenix. What's more is that it could target up to 9 bandits at a time to the Hornet's 3. It goes without saying it was a great plane. At least we can still enjoy its greatness in museums.
The Phoenix missile wouldn't be any real use against a nimble fighter, you have to remember that the F14 was designed to shoot down lumbering russian bombers with them, en masse. No better plane for the task lol.
The only reason the F14 was ever really replaced was because of the man hours required to service it after a mission, three times as many that go into an F-18. The only plane that seems to have escaped the same fate is the A-10. B52's dont count xD
@peepeevagi Yeah, that's where the ability to target nine bandits at a time came into great use. As for the A-10, lots of sources are saying that (unfortunately) the JSF will replace it. I think otherwise since they said the exact same thing about the F-16 which was rather erroneous, and no other airplane has quite a gun as the GAU-8 Avenger. Sure the JSF and F-16 are more multi-role platforms, but that means they can do the roles well enough where the A-10 can really deliver in what it does
It seems that the major killer of fine aircraft is the moving towards multi-role ability. There's no beating a tailor made, specialist design, but it's far more expensive to develop that specialist design into a different role than to just settle for something that can do everything.
It's why i HAAAATE early F18's. Their performance is absolutely dismal compared to the F14 as a fighter, and the A6 can out bomb an F18 any day. And where's the love for the F111? It was pretty awesome too.
So yeah, it's all about the money nowadays. Where aircraft are no longer weapons themselves, but a system meant to deliver ordinance instead. Gone are the days of planes with character, now they're just machines of work or war.
Not to mention that the newer airplanes really lack definitive design. Granted stealth is the key role in the Generation 5 crafts, but so far the three big designs, F-22, F-35, and PAK FA, all look very similar, though the PAK FA has textbook Russian characteristics like the platypus nose and the extension between the engines. At least our warbirds will all be immortalized in museums, air shows, and the like, and we can continue to enjoy them on the homefront.
Interestingly enough, most Russian crafts have had much the same general shape across a generation with minor design changes. If you were to look at the MiG-15, 17, and 19, the differences between subsequent models was a narrower wing sweep and low tail respectively. Even today with the MiG-29 and (though much smaller than) the Su-27, 30 (canards), 35 (2d vector thrust), and 37 (both). Even the PAK FA looks a lot like its predecessors.
@RFXCGZZ I didn't say PAK FA looks the same, just that there is a lot of resemblance to earlier crafts if you look at it the right way. Sure the YF-23 with the way the tailfins are situated, but the platypus nose and the backside of the craft have that distinct Russian fighter design. In fact, from the right angle, it also looks a lot like the CFA-44 Nosferatu from Ace 6
the closes raaf base to me is getting rid of them..... my family history is being decomissioned at the end of this year so i cant fly them in real life

Some the aircraft-specific perks dont make any sense. I WISH the Su-47 had thrust vectoring. It'd be so epic.

Are russian jets better in real life?
So far, it seems like they're the best when it comes to speed.
I only read a little bit about them in the library.
My favorite jets is the YF-23, F-16, Eurofighter, Jas 39 and the F-14.
They should bring that jet back. That F-35 is sweet also.

The su-27,30,35,37 are all based on the T-10 airframe. That's why they look the same.
I wouldn't say that the PAK FA looks the same. I think it has more of a resemblance to the YF-23 than the T-10 series.
