He is absolutely right. The sad things is this goes both for good and evil... For people who want new technologies, new friendships etc. But also for people who want ethnic cleansing, random car bombing and so on.
And I think it's wrong of him to decide what a 'bigger' life is. Why should it be wrong to have a nice family, have fun, save a little money? Why should everyone need to be revolutionary all the time? By that logic only a couple of hundred people in the world's history truly lived...
@fedinhorax he's not trying to decide what a "bigger" life is. theres nothing wrong with the life he described, he just means that most people settle for that because they dont know that more is possible.
@fedinhorax well yea obviously because steve jobs believed in pushing beyond so called limits and possibilities. He doesnt believe in settling for what society tells you is "normal", but I dont think he means to say theres anything wrong with doing that
oh, so you lead a normal life? well... there's nothing wrong with that....

Nice clip. It's good that he rephrased that in another way in his commencement speech when he told the graduates not to live with the results of other people's thinking.
It doesn't matter who is delivering the message. The idea is sound. I agree that we are taught to color inside the lines. And it's important to be reminded that we can change and influence the world around US.
We should then use that to know that by ourselves we can't really build world changing things, that we should do what he did, get a bunch of smart people that knew about very specialized things to build new things.
Have an idea of what you wanna build, then get others to build it for you. The more amazing people required to make your product happen, the more world changing it will be.
How can any of you insult what he's saying. You all sound ignorant. I don't care if you don't like his products but you can't say that he doesn't know what he's talking about, because last I checked, he died a billionaire (or at least a hundred millionaire) and revolutionized technology as we know it.
@SJ4EV3R Not really you fuck tard, steve jobs invented the coding that windows runs on so he pritty much started window and both pc's and macs are good depending on what you use them for >:(
No he didn't. Jobs was never all that much into coding. Wozniak was the one who created most of the code early Apple computer ran on. And Windows was born from DOS and that in turn was based on the code from Seattle Computer Products. Even Gates was much more into coding than Jobs was
You're a dumbass. There are PCs just as well built as Macs, same with Android phones as good as iPhones. There are areas where PCs are much better than Macs and vice versa, same with phone brands. You are a blind fanboy, but even you should be able to understand that no matter how much you love Apple products they are not the best choice for every single purpose and every single person.
@ogrish84 I've already started. I switched from PC to Mac. I've got a head start in phones by starting off with the iPhone which despite bing the best phone out there will probably only get better.
steve we were buddies until you made this new mouse that goes dead after one game of starcraft. The mouse is the only reason i have a losing record. Touch mouse is a bad idea.
@lilfro2009 This sort of statement is getting ridiculously old and absurd. Charity does nothing compared to ingenuity, technological advance, and entrepreneurial discovery; all of which Jobs (and entrepreneurs like him) contributed immensely to humanity. I'd take 10^20 non-charity giving Steve Jobs' with their entrepreneurial genius that have improved the lives of millions of people, than a Princess Diana or Bono, whose aid is not nearly as effective.
Steve Jobs did nothing to improve other people lives. He was just a salesman. He did nothing besides making money from you. He was a genius at that, a true visionary, but turning him into some sort of marvelous person who spent his life helping people is plain silly. Bill Gates is like that now, Jobs never was and he died before he ever had a chance to try.
@AdrianWerner Perhaps you should educate yourself further on the role of the CEO in a company. He was more than just a "salesman," he was an entrepreneur that not only saved Apple's ass, but steered it in a new innovative direction that has had a profound impact on the development of technology. I'm not saying he was marvelous character-wise, but he provided a higher standard of living for millions. Gates did the same thing, although Gates' charitable work has done much less than his company.
@AdrianWerner Wow, you really don't get it do you - take this philosophy and change the world with philanthropy if thats the direction you hold so highly - don't knock it. I think you will also find that Apple has participated in the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa through sales of (RED) product versions I think it'd be fair to say that Apple's outsourcing of their manufacturing to Asia provides more longer-lasting positive results in Asia than any philanthropic programs could ever do.
@lilfro2009 How can you know that Steve Jobs has never donated to charity? Many people feel better when they help without boasting into media about it,

wow steve jobs, why did I spend 4 years in engineering school when I could do it with a joke degree or better yet none at all since just an average joe can do it.
Seemingly inspiring but total bs, fact of the matter is many of the things we use are made by people than unlike most of us have a superior intelligence and education thus being able to achieve much more than the average Joe. Still, can't help but like the guy for how well he sold "inspirational" stuff like that to gullible people along with their highly overpriced merchandise.
@bg004009 Actually the more you research about him, the more you will admire him--because all the words of wisdom he said, he truly lived by! A very authentic man!
This wise man routine he cultivated was brilliant. If Plato were alive today he would describe him as a sophist salesman.
He has all the superficial qualities of being wise but when you analyze what he says his specious pseudo philosophy falls apart (eg. 0:23 to 0:31). As a philosopher I rate him a D minus. As a salesman I rate him A+
@SJ4EV3R Nothing, I've done nothing. But thats my whole point which you totally missed because you think I attacked your guru. He says the life we have was created by people no smarter than you or I. This of course is a lie. A feel good lie, but a lie. He uses self help psycho babble to sell stuff. I applaud the man. He's linked a brand with the cult of personality. The only person I can think of so closely linked to a brand is Henry Ford
HE UNDERSTOOD this simple fact that he mentioned. However, he is the one who used people to buy his product in millions and charged incredibly high prices for them. He talks good words but he is not the one who can make the world better.
I wonder how many people changed their tunes about how "this is a tough world, deal with it" like they are saying in the comments 8 playlist videos back?
fuck Steve jobs he was so over rated, he used fucking sweatshop labor in china and dumped the toxic there killing thousands so that rich slobs could buy his overpriced shit.
i was thinking how this is coming from a man who has really changed the technology around us today, then funny enough my itunes update thing popped up.
I like your stuff, Steve. I just don't think you should be considered the 3rd best engineer of all time. You're awesome, but not awesomer than Nikola Tesla, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Charles Rolls, Henry Royce, or Thomas Edison.
@WastelandGaming Their achievements were greater and more important. They effect more things. Besides he didn't invent anything at all. He was just the CEO of the company.
Thank you Steve, Im only 15 and I've been saying that for a while now and my parents keep trying to tell me to just do what needs to be done and accept that and I'm sick of that shit and I finally want to do something about it and this video has given me the confidence boost I needed, so thanks :)
@eatmydust166 Yes, forcing child labor (with pay that is near 10 cents an hour) in Africa to obtain the material to make his overpriced, shitty, hipster products is definitely a change beyond his grave. Oh, and did I mention he drove around without a license plate, thinking he was above the law, and hardly ever donated to charity? Meanwhile at Bill Gates's residence...
Four years ago i was told about the same inspirational quote by my dad when i was only 18 - and new to my business line . Alhumduliah by practicin on my dad's wordings i have achieved so many things that i could have only dream of 4 years ago .
never gave a dollar in cancer research caus his shit was soooooo important - well, we all see where that gets you. money money money. idontwantoliveonthisplanetanymore
and he got fastracked to get a new organ , which is why he coulb borrow a few more years. All that money in the bank and all you take with you is the little box you'll be buried in. He had BILLIONS in the bak . you think he'd invest half of it on research to cure several illnesses.Could you spend even 900 millions in your life time ?

I like your stuff, Steve. I just don't think you should be considered the 3rd best engineer of all time. You're awesome, but not awesomer than Nikola Tesla, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Charles Rolls, Henry Royce, or Thomas Edison.

@iateanickle Einstein and Newton were theoretical physicists not engineers.

@WastelandGaming Their achievements were greater and more important. They effect more things. Besides he didn't invent anything at all. He was just the CEO of the company.

Steve Jobs, dead, still has all the money in the world. Bill Gates, alive, gives all the money he can.

@xNicoG96 Apple utilizes child labor just as much as any other manufacturer out there (yes, including Microsoft). What utopia are you living in?

and he got fastracked to get a new organ , which is why he coulb borrow a few more years. All that money in the bank and all you take with you is the little box you'll be buried in. He had BILLIONS in the bak . you think he'd invest half of it on research to cure several illnesses.Could you spend even 900 millions in your life time ?
