I like this old school jam...but I think for my taste the toms are just a bit too loud...but thats just me...I never cared much for the electro toms unless they were just totally warped lol.
Excellent old-skool live set my man - this is what music is all about! Pity you can't take your studio ou on the road - I'm a tad bored with watching DJ's these days -
I suppose that's what laptops and Ipads could be all about - make it portable and gigable - we used to take our entire studio on the road back in the day (OOOD) - but it became too much of a logistical nightmare - you must send me your email or fb contact sometime...(I designed the Mutator BTW..)
love your videos and your approach to music, very inspirational! That style - plus the comments about hardware vs. software/laptop and the SP1200 in general - made me think to to a Electro Hop track with only the SP1200. Synth and drum sounds in the SP, sequenced in the SP. You might want to check my Video response, pure SP1200 Electro Hop.
anything youd like to say about the compounder?? ive been eyeing one for my 3k/virus set-up...i have another mono-mid-range compressor allready.. this one seems nice but it doesnt really do sidechain ie, pumping breathing synths triggered by the kick does it? its more of a gate trigger correct? love the vids and your gear, wish i had someone OTB (like you) round here to collab with...
Love this. If you didn't say it I was going to about the "this can be done on a laptop" response. Not trying to insult you Kolakube123. But if you can afford it, hardware, real hardware not controllers, are super fun and inspiring. Kidysputpikii- Mind doing a demo of the DP4???
@DJillogick I don't have enough time to do everything I want so I have decided to be more focused on the music than on the demo side of my gear. Sorry :(
Don't mean to be negative but if you take away that visual/video aspect you could do all that and more on 200 dollar Propellerheads Reason and no one at a club or on the other end of a radio show would have a clue.
Don't mean to be insulting here, more just a constructive point. But thats like a $15,000 set up doing nothing more than my laptop with $200 Reason.
But where there is a video aspect like here or live, you rock and I have subscribed.
@kolakube123 soundwise you might be almost right, but there is something else with working with hardware, it is more fun and inspirational (at least for me).
You can draw everything in photoshop, but there will always be people that do paint in real life :)
@esmond8034535 as all the sounds come from hardware instruments everything suffer from the same latency (around 10ms in ableton) so it is not really a problem
sorry for the ignorance but what is the use to do with the kenton pro solo? i read something like midi-cv (converter i think), but can you convert midi to audio with?
its purpose is to midi control vintage gear made before the age of midi such as the korg ms20, it converts incoming midi into control voltages and gate that are used in most analog vintage synth (nothing to do with audio) :)
mostly the UI, it such a deep synth i would love to have more than 5 knobs to tweak event if the logic behind it is pretty straightforward. Sometimes there pieces of gear you have dreamed about that finally don't fit your way of working, it has happened to me with the Xpander regardless of its sound.
what were the noizes at 6.20 sounds like something off homework, daft punk samples?
breconmafia 2 months ago
@breconmafia 6.20 is some juno 106 through distortion, nothing sampled here :)
The rising lfo on the pitch makes it sound a bit like daft punk rock n roll maybe.

is that a dp-4 i hear in there somewhere, some loverly noizes coming out of it whatever it is
breconmafia 2 months ago
@breconmafia there is some dp4 phaser at some times

beatlust 1 year ago
@beatlust the focusrite compounder is an ok comp, nothing fancy, good plugins might do better, I wish i had better dynamic and mixing gear :)
kidysputpikii 1 year ago
@beatlust ok, what would you prefer to have over the compounder then?? im kinda disappointed to hear its only as good as plug-ins...
beatlust 1 year ago
@beatlust api2500, SLL, distressor ... the list could go forever, i might try the api500 road in the future with the xpressor 500, alta moda hyppo...
The compounder is ok, i like it but really not in the same league :)
I have not spent much on that kind of gear because it is my skill and my ear that limit me the most when mixing.
I've never been able to have a great sound whereas some people are just better producer than me with nothing more than garage band on a Imac ;)

Really impressed by what you are doing,
just a quick question, do you have the audio all running through ableton, and if so, how do you set it up not to have latency issues?
esmond8034535 1 year ago
@esmond8034535 as all the sounds come from hardware instruments everything suffer from the same latency (around 10ms in ableton) so it is not really a problem

Hey, I've got a question for you
How noticable are using the real versions of the drum machines over just normal samples in ableton?
Would buying a linndrum have a HUUGE (enough to warrant the cost) increase in sound over just sampled?
Jordo54321 1 year ago
it does not make that much of a difference soundwise but the HUUGE one comes to the workflow
kidysputpikii 1 year ago
how skinny are you?????

Man, I´m deply impresed by the whole workflow with those analogue dream machines. Great tunes !! Cheers from Germany

Nice Kit!
I am looking at purchasing an Ensoniq DP-4. How do you find it?
Do you still use it over Ableton's built stock plug ins?
ProBassLessons 1 year ago
I bought it on ebay and yes I use it a lot as it has a lot more personality than ableton's
kidysputpikii 1 year ago
@kidysputpikii
I ended up buying a DP4 and am loving it! Great phaser and flanger.
Next I want to get a sampler for drums - have been looking at either the SP12 OR SP1200 - Is the 1200 everything it is cracked up to me?
Do you love it?
What is it like to work with?
Do you use it for drums only?
ProBassLessons 1 year ago
I almost never use the sp1200 for drums but ;ost of the time for chopped loops, it is very easy to use and add a nice flavour to the sound :D
kidysputpikii 1 year ago
sick studio.
I like the studio electronics atc-1 you got down there.
the linn is dope...the sp1200...nice set up.
