i've literally had no lessons or even really attempted to learn guitar and this stuff looks about as complex as the stuff i make up when i'm bored with the guitar that's lying around in my room for some reason.
Before I say this, you must know that I DON'T like the Jonas Brothers. However, even if this are just simple chords and strumming patterns, there are lots of easy songs out there that are amazing songs. So, how complex the guitar is, doesn't mean they suck or something.
What does suck, however, is the sound of their guitars.
They don't necessarily suck at playing guitar, they just aren't very advanced. The stuff they do is pretty easy but at least they know more than 3 chords unlike that justin kid.
but even though they suck Having easy songs dont mean u suck Listen to The Who Pete Townshend coudn't solo his way out of a pussy but he has a great band.
And Kurt Cobain songs are easier than getting a black women to have sex for crack cocain.
And Steve Jones is kickass but They are really just Power Chords with the odd solo(Anarchy In the uk)Doesn't mean he's bad at guitar
@kildare97 In my opinion, being a songwriter and having good songs is better than having extreme skills. Jimmy Page, for example.. he wrote a lot of simple and GOOD songs, not like these jonas brothers simple shitty songs..
@kildare97 Jimmy Page had both extreme guitar skills, AND good songwriting skills, and like a lot of the 70's musicians, he's legendary. The old songs had meanings, and they told stories, they gave you this feeling. The new music is just shit, it's all just noise and sounds
@Hellion6325 Jimmy Page had good songwriting skills? More like Jimmy Page was good at ripping off old blues artists, specifically Robert Johnson. The man had no shame.
@MegaCalvinHobbes: Which Led Zeppelin songs are ripped off of Robert Johnson? The British blues and rock musicians of the 60s and 70s helped popularise the musicians many Americans today claim they ripped off, since the US and UK had different views on the genre during the time. Did Jimi Hendrix have no shame? Keith Richards? Allman? Clapton, Green? SRV?
Funny thing is, you might never even have heard of Robert Johnson or Muddy Waters if not for bands like The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin.
@MrForsyth91 One Robert Johnson song ripped off is Black Dog. The riff is a sped up Muddy Waters riff, and the lyrics are Robert's with a few changes.
I don't see the logic you have, or lack thereof, in your next statement. You try to pass it off because the British had different views of the genre at the time, and then you go ahead and name American guitarists anyway.
And yeah, I probably wouldn't have heard of them, no one is debating that anyway. I'm not even a blues/rock guy anyway.
@MegaCalvinHobbes: What Muddy Waters riff? What Robert Johnson song's lyrics?
You don't see my lack of logic in the next statement? The reason I named American guitarists is because they're seldom blamed for having "stolen" music from "old blues musicians", and because many of them got famous because of success in Britain (Hendrix, notably, who played with the brilliant Redding and Mitchell).
You are debating that. What's wrong with being inspired by musicians and then helping make them $?
@MegaCalvinHobbes: I can't help but notice you didn't answer either of my arguments. It doesn't need to be made more right, since you haven't made it _wrong_ in the first place. If you tell me what's wrong about them "ripping off" these people and support your claims, I'll "make it more right". Until then I've got proof (by means of induction; a 100% rate of occurence amongst the 1 samples I've studied so far) that people who bash Led Zeppelin for stealing music are all trolls; derp is the word.
@MrForsyth91 I "have to tell (you) what's wrong about them "ripping off" these people"?
I thought ripping off was considered bad across the board. And how about "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" which was written by Anne Bredon in 1956, but Led Zeppelin never gave her credit until 1990. Or Stairway to Heaven, which is ripped off Taurus by Spirit? "Whole Lotta Love" was ripped off Willie Dixon's 1953 song "You Need Love." continued:
@MegaCalvinHobbes Cont: "Dazed and Confused" was originally written by the Yardbirds, but on the original it was never credited to Page, ergo, it's not his song. Led Zeppelin covered "I Can't Quit You Baby" by Willie Dixon, but never gave him credit. They stole "When the Levee Breaks" from Kansas Joe McCoy's 1929 song "When the Levee Breaks" without giving him credit. "Black Mountainside" was ripped of "Black Waterside" by Bert Jansch. "Since I've Been Loving You" is Moby Grape's "Never."
@MegaCalvinHobbes: Please do. All the people you mentioned gained a lot of publicity, money and in the end (where requested) credit, so what's the problem? If Led Zeppelin can make some money and make the original artist fame and money as well (if they want it), I can't see how that is bad - I would've been honoured to have them cover one of my songs. Neil Young "ripped off" Bert Jansch as well, just as much a tribute as any of the examples you mentioned. The Eagles stole from Jethro Tull.
@MegaCalvinHobbes: Everyone who has ever written a pop song has stolen from Pachelbel, etc.
Sure, they could have made sure to credit every song to everyone they were inspired by in writing them, but they were a rock and roll band, the second biggest ever, I doubt they reflected on crediting everyone who has ever used the words "I love you" on "D'yer Mak'er", everyone involved got as much or more credits than they were due in the long run.
@MegaCalvinHobbes: Most of their versions are a lot different (and in most cases a lot better than) the originals, and groundbreaking. Page played a part not only in (-re)arranging the songs, but producing them as well. Also, the original writers had the opportunity to ride that wave of popularity if they wanted to, or just to ignore it and go on, I really can't see the issue, I don't hear Willie Dixon whinging. Besides, you only named a handful songs, Page wrote/helped write so much more:
@MegaCalvinHobbes: What about Kashmir? Or is that ripped off RATM - Wake Up? Over the Hills and Far Away? Rock and Roll? What is and Never Should Be? The Rain Song? Moby Dick? Black Dog? Ramble On? Good Times Bad Times? Communication Breakdown? Heartbreaker? List goes on and on and on. What have you written that's better? No? Good, I'll go listen to The Allman Brothers Band "rip off" Blind Willie McTell, and enjoy every moment of their brilliant version.
@MrForsyth91 Ha. Out of that list, I can name a few that were ripped off. Moby Dick was ripped off "Watch Your Step" by Bobby Parker. Communication Breakdown was ripped off "Nervous Breakdown" by Eddie Cochran. And to name some more, "The Lemon Song" was ripped off Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor." "Nobody's Fault but Mine" was an uncredited cover of Blind Willie Johnson. "Trampled Under Foot" was ripped off Deep Purple's "Sail Away."
@MrForsyth91 Oh, and I don't remember having to write something better be a prerequisite for criticizing music. And the fact I have to tell you what's wrong about stealing music is pathetic. It doesn't matter how much publicity they gained from it. That doesn't make it right, and that doesn't make Page any better of a song-writer. Hell, even if it was right to rip off, that only proves Page wasn't that good of a writer, because he did it so often.
@MrForsyth91 And by the way, I do like Led Zeppelin, they're one of my favorite bands from that era. But I'm not going to defend them when it's obviously a defenseless case. Maybe it's because I'm actually a musician, and I understand there's a difference from being inspired and paying homage to a song, and stealing from that song. Led Zeppelin has simply crossed that line too many times for me to say in good faith that Jimmy Page was an excellent songwriter.
@MrForsyth91 And finally, if you wish to continue making strawman arguments on the internet, be my guest. I've made my point quite clear, I believe. If you care to say otherwsie, again, be my guest.
@Hellion6325 Only after Anne Bredon threatened to bring them to court in the 1980's. They officially credited it to her in 1990. That means she made absolutely no royalties from 1969-1990.
@Jun1000music That's right, how dare he have an opinion and then back it up with logic in his video? HOW DARE HE?! But seriously, I think it's funny how you can't even spell the word *idiot*... or *jealously*...
Your parents are irresponsible for letting a 3 year old girl use the internet.
@RocketQueenBand201 not always. but this kid is a professional musician and you are nobody. he deserves using it on stage in front of his fans while you are sitting at home commenting on his videos. :)
@SuperM4rioHoes the truth is, no one gives a fuck about instruments. ive never heard of anyone taking the time to talk shit about people who play certain instruments. youre the first. if you play in a marching band then good for you! just play whatever you wanna play and leave it at that. no need to get on youtube and try to piss off guitar players. honestly, it makes you sound insecure. like your trying to convince yourself that you're not a fag for playing in a marching band (which isnt true).
Little Motherfuckors getting money for shitty little stupid girls watching and listening to their shit while being way more worse than MANY other bands in the world, and many of them are actually good but dont get discovered by the publicity, because all they can hear is shitty Jonas Bieber Smurf Shit. And the best is: These fuckors are fuckin rich and get superprofessional equipment unreachable for the good, but poor musician. Im sorry for the world to be so unfair ( and for my english)
@SuperM4rioHoes just because this idiotic gay brothers can't play a fucking instrument doesn't mean all guitar players are bad, check this dude out so you can shut your mouth /watch?v=YvcKQsCZOgE
Ever notice that every generic pop rock band plays Pachelbel's Canon in D while doing the 4 chord progressions XD. Also, everyone already knows they suck, this is redundant.
Hey everyone, I wrote a song about my sister called slowly to ashes. She was murdered 3 years ago and nothing was ever done about it. Were not looking for money or anything like that, just your prayers and support. Thanks everyone!
Hmmm..yes Jonas Brothers suck and yes every song of their is simpler than smoke on the water's riff, no news here..BUT! Stop thinking that chords are simple cause they can get (and they are) more complex than any shredding.. try playing Alan Holdsworth's or Paco de Lucia's tracks and you'll see that you won't be able to shape your fingers fast enough or stretch them wide enough. And please don't say anything stupid because I'm a metalhead too.
@xouris123 Playing the basic of all chord progressions versus playing diminished and augmented chords in a pattern that isn't pop-sounding is totally different. One takes skill, the other takes a couple minutes. When you learn guitar someone doesn't go up to you and say "Augmented chords (or Dominant 7#5 chords as I like to think of them as) usually appear in Minor progressions as the 5 chord, and sometimes as the 3 chord. In otherwords, there IS a difference between simple and complex chords.
@CDL94Strykerz Good point but for me using only 3rds and 5th chords is not enough.. they won't reflect my exact feelings nevermind the progression. It just annoys me how people are so ignorant that often say "what? chords? omg i wont even bother with that I can play it no matter what."
I'am not a Jonas Bros fan at all,I think the music is horrific ,but the quote "Simplicity is the key" is very true, people don't care how rowdy you shred, they want to hear a catchy tune. Nothing is wrong with a four chord chorus, the chorus has is the part that stands out the most, you'll find that with any band playing any kind of music
Take a listen to Blackbird by the Beatles. Its not super-difficult, its basically just Paul... And it sounds incredible. While I don't like these guys, I think its more from a lack of originality than a lack of basic ability.
you guys are all rude, they are good musicians, a lot of songs are simple but sound good, so how about you stop hating on somebody that is doing better then you, the one sitting on the computer looking up how to play guitar, shut the fuck up
5. Kevin can even do a backflip while still playing guitar.
6. If you don't like it, don't listen. You're just showing you don't have a life when you post a video to prove how 'they can't play guitar'.
7. At least they play many instruments (Kevin - guitar, piano, banjo; Nick - drums, guitar, piano; Joe - guitar, keybords, piano) and write their own songs.
@Joziaac really how am i wrong anyways? Even though their song is just made up of 4 chords so what! they are just normal people, if they got in the music industry then it already makes sense that they are qualified to be like that. it doesn't matter how many chords they use. What matters is how they bring it out to the crowd. How they show they are worthy of the position. Not some freakin people bringing them down just because you are JEALOUS so puh-lease stop saying they suck cause they don't!
Aaaaaah damn it, now I'm in the awkward position of having to defend the Jonas Brothers...
Look, personal taste varies. Playing a simple chord progression doesn't prove a person can't play guitar well, it just proves they like simple chord progressions. To prove these kids are hacks, you would need to show them failing at something rudimentary. Judging a guitarist's technical ability by what they choose to play is like judging a book by how academic-sounding the narrator is.
i think its good, he just taught us how to play a million song =] dont believe me? try playing this and then Im Yours, Hot n Cold, Superman, Ive got a feeling... awesome!!
If you can play guitar, even just 2-3 chords, you know a little about music. More than most mainstream artists. Ok, maybe not talent, but i think you got what i meant?
I've actually seen nick jonas play guitar on jay leno once and I've gotta say I hate the jonas brothers but nick jonas is a decent player they just decide to play easy shit.
I'm not a backer of the Jonas Brothers by any means. Just saying that it's bullshit that all these "metal" fans hate on them? They might be a teen band, but shit, the chords don't even sound that bad? You'd hear Green Day playing this kind of shit, easily. Everyone just needs to join a god damn bandwagon because "it's cool."
i'm just saying it doesnt mean that they play 4 chords that they suck what matters is the lyrics itself not the tune or what chords they use chords are just an instrument to make the song better or chords are used to make the tune of the song for example you listen to a song without a tune and the person was only saying it it would really be weird lyrics are way more important than the tune itself because the lyrics says something more than the tune take that into concideration
This just proves that talent died a while ago. You don't even need to be able to play guitar to be a successful guitarist in a band anymore? Seriously, what the fuck. This is insulting to watch.
Them sucking at guitar would mean they can't play that. Just because chords are all they use doesn't mean they can't play anything else.
BTW Thomas Erak is the best guitarist EVER.

XxboVodxX 5 months ago
@XxboVodxX Some of Kurt Cobain's songs, "Polly" immediately comes to mind, are really easy... but they're better than this shit...
MKusername2000 4 months ago
Hmmm..yes Jonas Brothers suck and yes every song of their is simpler than smoke on the water's riff, no news here..BUT! Stop thinking that chords are simple cause they can get (and they are) more complex than any shredding.. try playing Alan Holdsworth's or Paco de Lucia's tracks and you'll see that you won't be able to shape your fingers fast enough or stretch them wide enough. And please don't say anything stupid because I'm a metalhead too.
xouris123 5 months ago
@xouris123 Playing the basic of all chord progressions versus playing diminished and augmented chords in a pattern that isn't pop-sounding is totally different. One takes skill, the other takes a couple minutes. When you learn guitar someone doesn't go up to you and say "Augmented chords (or Dominant 7#5 chords as I like to think of them as) usually appear in Minor progressions as the 5 chord, and sometimes as the 3 chord. In otherwords, there IS a difference between simple and complex chords.
CDL94Strykerz 5 months ago
@CDL94Strykerz Good point but for me using only 3rds and 5th chords is not enough.. they won't reflect my exact feelings nevermind the progression. It just annoys me how people are so ignorant that often say "what? chords? omg i wont even bother with that I can play it no matter what."
xouris123 5 months ago
I'am not a Jonas Bros fan at all,I think the music is horrific ,but the quote "Simplicity is the key" is very true, people don't care how rowdy you shred, they want to hear a catchy tune. Nothing is wrong with a four chord chorus, the chorus has is the part that stands out the most, you'll find that with any band playing any kind of music
Aidsinstatic 5 months ago
Take a listen to Blackbird by the Beatles. Its not super-difficult, its basically just Paul... And it sounds incredible. While I don't like these guys, I think its more from a lack of originality than a lack of basic ability.
L2112Lifz 5 months ago
Guitar doesn't have to be difficult to sound good.
Jollyballz5000 5 months ago
in there defence... a lot of the most famous riffs are simple.. yet catchy...
But jonas brothers suck... and, all you need is a 1 year lesson, to be on a jonas brother level... even better...

1. It's just one song.
2. It was released in 2008.
3. Kevin and Nick can play any song by year.
4. They can play any solo.

OMG, even their tone sucks!!! Those Gibsons deserve better than that!
NeedMoreJoyDivision 7 months ago
@Joziaac really how am i wrong anyways? Even though their song is just made up of 4 chords so what! they are just normal people, if they got in the music industry then it already makes sense that they are qualified to be like that. it doesn't matter how many chords they use. What matters is how they bring it out to the crowd. How they show they are worthy of the position. Not some freakin people bringing them down just because you are JEALOUS so puh-lease stop saying they suck cause they don't!
angelynmae 7 months ago
Aaaaaah damn it, now I'm in the awkward position of having to defend the Jonas Brothers...
Look, personal taste varies. Playing a simple chord progression doesn't prove a person can't play guitar well, it just proves they like simple chord progressions. To prove these kids are hacks, you would need to show them failing at something rudimentary. Judging a guitarist's technical ability by what they choose to play is like judging a book by how academic-sounding the narrator is.

what's wrong with simple chord progressions!?!? if you don't like it don't listen to it.

I'm not a backer of the Jonas Brothers by any means. Just saying that it's bullshit that all these "metal" fans hate on them? They might be a teen band, but shit, the chords don't even sound that bad? You'd hear Green Day playing this kind of shit, easily. Everyone just needs to join a god damn bandwagon because "it's cool."
bradyowns 11 months ago
i'm just saying it doesnt mean that they play 4 chords that they suck what matters is the lyrics itself not the tune or what chords they use chords are just an instrument to make the song better or chords are used to make the tune of the song for example you listen to a song without a tune and the person was only saying it it would really be weird lyrics are way more important than the tune itself because the lyrics says something more than the tune take that into concideration
angelynmae 11 months ago
This just proves that talent died a while ago. You don't even need to be able to play guitar to be a successful guitarist in a band anymore? Seriously, what the fuck. This is insulting to watch.
