Anyone who is stupid enough to think they were not good and could not have played with the current best in their day is a fool. Mosconi once was challenged by a 9 ball player back in the 40s when he was at his peak. The fool thought he could only play straight pool. At $50 a game in 1940s money he ran 13 straight games before the 9 ball players backer threw in the towel. He disliked 9 ball because it is a luck game, I guess Willie was lucky.
Jimmy Caras gave an exhibition for Brunswick in Louisville back in the mid 1960's. He was fantastic. At one point, he rolled a ball next to the right rail and then cut it into left pocket. Just imagine watching and thinking the shot is headed for the right pocket and all of a sudden Caras makes razor thin cut on a moving ball and sends it to the left pocket. He smiled a little when he did this. I think he knew that everyone knew that they had just seen the impossible.
1st Gen Mosconi 2nd Gen Reyes... 3rd?

Every clip on here shows willie losing,im beginning to think he was good, but not as great as they say he was?

he was probably the best pool player ever. maybe Ralph Greenleaf was better, but mosconi was the best. ironically, he hated the game.

Caras was seven years older than Mosconi and around his 81st birthday at the time of this video
