Can't ever hear this song without thinking of those excellent two robots, who just happened to save Terran, or at least human, civilization for at least a little while longer.
I can kinda see what the director was going with this opening scene, by first having the music first to a place which corresponds with the lyrics, but then, takes us somewhere opposite of the spirt of the whole song, as sort of a melancholy, look, into what might just become. A international monopoly where all the world is run by one corporation, where trash is everywhere, and where earth is no longer safe. Its really an eye opener, but a bit too political for a kids film thou.
@TheProudAmerican777 what i like about pixar is they make movies that both entertaining for kids and adults, i mean the setting isn't really that complicated, but they include stuff that the kids can always enjoy, like the humor and bright lights and stuff. :D
Woot! ^_^ I didn't even realize this was the beginning song to Wall-E XD Hello Dolly is going to be our spring musical, and I'm playing Mrs. Molloy. ^_^
@rainbowkirby allthough that is true. I do think the makers of this film had some inspiration from the fallout series. But it doesn't even matter cause they are both awesome.
@guliosh in the director's commentary he said the song's lyrics actually really connected to the story of the film and he wanted there to be a film that WALL-E watched to learn what romance was like and stuff, so this was the perfect song to use, nothing to do with Fallout I'm afraid. :3 mainly because fallout's in the past and this is in the future.
@Thomasbki I was not talking about the song, although thank you for the information!, 1 more thing though, the fallout series do actually take place in the future, but the games represent the future as it could be if some things would have gone differently in the real world.
@ kitmcc i guess i know this feeling.. you see or hear something similar but cannot share because it's part of your own history.. :) so sad and happy at once.. Love this feeling :) and you think u might burst of happiness....
My grandma used to put on "Hello Dolly" whenever she came to visit when I was little. I got so excited to hear this song when I saw this movie in theaters. And then my boyfriend called me a nerd because of the goofy fucking grin on my face.
I like how they opened with this song. At first it seems to be ironic since Earth is a desolate garbage dump. Yet, that cheerful up-beat song is how WALL-E views the world. To him life is an exciting adventure.
lol. I love the irony Pixar uses here. You have one of the most cheerful songs ever written, cutting to the depressing, post-apocalyptic, wasteland of Earth. Actually, this song makes the opening sequence very eerie in my opinion. It gives you a feeling of uncertainty...In short, I love this movie way too much lol.
I HAD TO POST THIS 3 TIMES BECAUSE MY COMPUTER KEEPS FREEZING AND DELETING MY COMMENTS. for all thouse asking who's barnaby you should know that this song is not original to the movie. although this movie was awesome to chose a ironic begining with this amazing show tune, the song is originally from the musical "Hello Dolly". You probably don't know that because of modern brainwash. I'm telling you they don't publicize this stuff any more cause all they care about is explosions and crap.
@CamramanidiotCIA Couldn't have said it better myself, thank-you for explaining this to the people out there that are clueless. "Hello Dolly" is one of my favorites!
Hahaha love Wall-E, though it makes me laugh because the man who sings this song is Michael Crawford. The same man who played the original Erik in the 1986 London Production fo Phantom of the Opera :D
OMG when i saw wallie i cried at the end so if u haven't seen GO SEEE IT IT IS SO FUDGIN AWESOME and i love sunday clothes i really regret not trying out when my school had the musical hello dolly i regret it

That's how I saw the film, kinda. I wasn't interested at first, but since my sister was paying, I figured, "Eh, why not". Of course, as a result I totally love this movie.
Wall-E was a good movie because of the limited human interaction in this film. For once the movie carried itself with its story, characters, and great animation...unlike other CGI movies where the actors are the real hype behind the movie rather than the movie iteself, ala ice age and madagascar. I am sick of all the CGI movies that have too many famous actors doing the voices. It just doesn't do anything for me whatsoever. WALL-E RULES!!!
I don't know much about Fallout, but to me Wall-E does seem to be inspired by the 80s film Short Circuit. It was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the robot.
Just thought I'd let you know . . . fallout was originally made by black isle studios not bethesda :D just to let you know. Knowings half the battle you know

WALL-E deserves Best Picture Oscar. Audience did indeed love the movie. Young children will love the cuteness, and adults and young teen will be touched by the allegorial story.
This is actually a very good movie. At first I thought this would be another boring kids movie but it actually very thought-provoking and makes us more aware of our planet! I also love this song from Hello Dolly!
I love Pixar and Wall-e. Not only is the animation beautiful, but also the story. It seems that Pixar is only getting better and better. I don't really see why people find it boring, though. It's not like it's a five hour documentary on the migration of the water beetle!

Hmmm... slightly eerie, esp as the song fades out. I liked the attention to detail this movie has... lots of interesting things lying half-buried in the wasteland that Earth has become. It lifts a vibe from some of the better post-apocalyptic films, such as Omega Man, and captures it even though the Earth was simply deserted due to overcrowding and overwhelming trash, not some sort of pandemic or nuclear exchange.
I agree, it's kind of prophetic as well, as it relates to the Book of Revelations. Before the world is supposed to end, there will be one mass provider for everything, in this it's BnL.
I love this song and I love Michael Crawford. I loved how they used Michaels part of the song from Hello Dolly in WALL-E(which I love to!). It was great hearing a very young and innocent sounding MC before he developed his wonderful mature voice and became legendary as the originator of the Phantom Of The Opera character on stage! Great video!!!
i loved the part at 0:14-15 i know its weird and its not entirely because of the part in the song ( although i do LOVE it! ) its just how the music matched it so well and well the movie is just wonderfully fantastic, i give the movie 2300 out of ten.
I remember when I was watching this, I was slack jawed at how brilliant this scene was... The song was so good, the animation was so good, I honestly felt like I was in the clouds.
Can't ever hear this song without thinking of those excellent two robots, who just happened to save Terran, or at least human, civilization for at least a little while longer.

Does anyone else find this scene really eerie? Coz the song's all cheery and there's all the rubbish and stuff everywhere.
Great intro!

the movie has a very 'green' message - in the form of false optimism and hypothetical outcomes.

TV Tropes calls it "Soundtrack Dissonance."

Hmmm... slightly eerie, esp as the song fades out.

Surely one of the most unexpected and yet perfect openings for a film.

I remember when I was watching this, I was slack jawed at how brilliant this scene was... The song was so good, the animation was so good, I honestly felt like I was in the clouds.

hello dolly is a pretty good movie.
yes...being an avid space lover, i thought
the opening scene was magnificent.
the use of an old song like that was an elegant touch
and it all fit perfectly.
