  • I survied this hurricane

  • @singingsoccerlover You and millions of others in the area. Sadly most of the people who died, with a few exceptions, were just too ignorant to evacuate to higher ground. The Nat. Weather Serv. was very clear in suggesting evacuation of all the low lying areas, and repeatedly told the public that a 20+ ft. tidal surge was going to inundate the barrier islands. I heard that some of these fools, rest their souls, exclaimed, "I am not going to be told by the Federal Gov't what to do!!"

  • Luckily the winds had weakened greatly before Ike came ashore. Most areas did not receive any wind over 85 mph. Not t hat 85 mph is a sneeze. It is hurricane force, can blow you over, tear off poorly constructed roofs, bring down power lines, etc.

  • I survied this hurricane my dad was out side trying to hold back our DECK cuz it was half broken off and me and my cousin were out side letting go ballones. And also my nebigor/cousion had to help take down their trampoline and put it back together in the garage. Sadly we werent aloud to jump on it. Boo hoo :-)

  • One who disliked this video is stupid.I praise the firemen. No doubt this is one of the finest hurricane footages on youtube

  • i was in huricane ike and it blew the top of my house..it was awsome!!!

  • At 1:54...FIRE!!!!!!

That actually happened to a Chinese restaurant called the Golden Dragon where I live. It happened a few days after Ivan.

  • indeed at the beginning when the trees are swaying that is hella wind causing that imagine how it is during the main thing

  • Great Footage

  • Great footage! I live in Beaumont and stayed during Ike, and the sound beginning at 1:20 is something I will never forget!

  • The sound of a hurricane howling is unique and exhilerating. I recall during Andrew in S. Miami Dade, while hiding in the house under the table in the fortified room, it sounded like a Boing 747 jet was parked outside the house reving its engines to full bore. I had to yell at the top of my lungs for the person sitting 6 inches away to even kind of hear me at all.

  • @SETexdude beaumont got hit hard never will forget it in houston it sounded like the san luis resort

  • If you have any still shots of this I would love to have some because my dad was the captain of this shift, so he is the guy in the white helmet. Let me know if you have any photographs that you would be willing to share with me, thanks :)

  • Hi Rich,

I very much enjoyed viewing this fantastic trailer of your hurricane Ike intercept. Once again, it highlights your exceptional photogenic skills, as well as your gift for editing the fantastic footage that both You and Brad captured. This is yet another truly historic hurricane intercept to add to your illustrious and pioneering hurricane chasing career. I am sure that I am only one of countless others who greatly appreciates your work.:)

  • Those firemen are very brave. What caused all of those fires anyways?

  • I can only guess one of two things: water getting into wiring embedded in the building frame, causing shorts and sparks; OR some wires being pulled away from their base, also causing sparks, which ignited the wooden facade or ceiling.
