this is a nasty talentless person. boasting about abortion, she should have been aborted.a woman has a right to choose over her own body.it is not a ticket to fame.
I recently watched a resplendent Modern Art documentary and Tracey Emin was interviewed in it. I have never been so uninterested and bored to death by someone. She had the audacity to go to Norway and speak about Munch's 'The Scream'. It was annoying to listen to someone so talentless speak about an artist so wonderful.
when a commoner gets famous with 'art' that shocks the rich it is easy to create shocking 'art'. Just like it's easy to shock / impress westerners with reality with such a basic and, imo, very average movie such as Slumdog Millionaire.
she might as well fabricate a sloppy gapping 70's hairy-bush pussy with half a condom hanging out of it and call the piece "Hit n' Run"
see, it's easy.
tracey emin, occupation- pointing out the bloody obvious
The highest human endeavour is to make one's life a work of art. She does the opposite. She tries to make works of "art" out of her fragmented, meaningless and sorry personal life.
they do say the most creative thing you can do is make another human life ....and if they get to adulthood without being thrown out of the window then you're a sucess
Yep, as if we needed any further proof that Tracey Emin is an incapable, irresponsible, talentless attention-whore who is dumber than the average high school student....here it is.
I think it's a bit silly when people say: "Look! She's provoking outrage and disgust! This is a proof of her talent and success!" Yeah, Neo-Nazis provoke outrage and disgust too, they must be doing something wonderful. There are better ways to defend her shit rhetorically speaking, but I don't know why anyone would want to...
@raspyshiit Yeah, she's a fucking modern-day Bernini. Right. And Jay-Z's "poetry" is just a good as Walt Whitman's right? It's all the same anyway....
@sleepcity well there's no point in debating a very subjective topic, if you don't even adknowledge my opinions. i'm not into jay-z's music, yes he has good poetic skills, but his music is shit, and it seems as though he doesn't even try. have you ever heard his 80s mixtapes from back in the day?
@raspyshiit Oh man, thank you for the laugh. I love that you took my joke seriously and are now trying to convince me that Jay-Z, like Emin, is also deserving of that much debased title, "artist." Bernini isn't better than Emin, you say, just "different". Whitman isn't better than Jay-Z, you say, just "different." Do you not realize the implications of your relativism? If everyone is an artist then no one is. If everything is art then nothing is. Same for music. Do you understand this point?
@sleepcity i'm pretty sure the implications of your reply wasn't a joke. if it was you should have indicated it, youtube isn't very good at emoting. they are different styles, and some people prefer others. there isn't a universal definition for what an artist should be labeled.
@sleepcity i strongly recommend, then we can talk about this shit. and as for rap/poetry you don't really need to introduce me to new things as i'm familiar with whitman's work, they are both talented in different ways. i've been allowing myself to appreciate or at least understand different styles and fusions of all genres, maybe you should too? it would help with your over cynical mindset.
@sleepcity also, what is you fascination with traditional art? are you afraid of taboos being introduce? or do you like conservative and 'safe' art? and are you an artist yourself? do you paint/draw? can you paint/draw? are you a dreamer? do you dream of interesting concepts and ideas?
It funny how "artists" hide behind the great wall that is "art is absolutely anything".... great a bed covered by soiled underwear and used condoms... marvelous... I'll vomit on the floor and cover that vomit in glass.... ooooo suddenly it's art... or hell scratch the glass... just plain vomit.... yay! art!
@stevesg92 Well, you've got to convince Charles Saatchi (or some parvenu hedge-fund manager from New Jersey or some oil billionaire from a poor country with zero education) that it's brilliant, then you can sell it for millions and congratulate yourself on being a modern-day Michelangelo.
nothing about emin is profound, people say "well she evokes beautiful ideas" but anyone in any perfection can have a beautiful idea......Roger Scruton tears her praisers apart here, for instance, a lawyer, a doctor, or a teacher can have a beautiful idea but they'd never try to pass it off as aesthetics or art. We should call Tracey Emin an amateur idea maker.
Those who have something negative to say about her are either threatened by her strength and intelligence or don't understand what she means. Either way, deal with your own insecurities and stop putting them on her.
@murdersherote13: "Those who have something negative to say about her are either threatened by her strength and intelligence or don't understand what she means." So if one has a negative opinion of her and/or her work it MUST be because we are all "threatened" by her "strength" and, apparently, "intelligence." THAT or we misunderstand her. Can you fit more logical fallacies in one sentence? Is it possible?
@spannerchops If you clearly don't like her why take the time out of your day to search a video of her just to leave horrible comments? Perhaps you should be quiet.
This is my favouite Emin interview. It's awesome, gotta love her. If you read her book Strangeland yuo learn a lot about her. It doesn't mention any of her art yet it definately helps you understand her art by uinderstanding her. Oh and no matter what your opinion is of her art, no matter if you think it's the shittest thing to ever burden the planet, there is no reason what so ever to post comments about how she should go harm herself. It's sick.
@stevesg92 She's a disturbed woman in a disturbed world. Please visit ebay.co.uk and have a look at how much people is bidding for this: Tracey Emin, original, signed canvas - Stars on Canvas.
Six days left! Well, at least it's all for charity...
@bordereye Wow that is quite sad. I agree and disagree that art can be anything but then anyone can be an artist and art itself loses it's special merit don't you think?
@stevesg92 Conceptual art it's all the rage nowadays and art critics do their best to promote it. You know, it's just cool and fashionable to ignore anything else. I've visited most art universities websites and some of their students art exhibitions. A good 95% of what they produce is conceptual. And very bad conceptual, no ideas, absolutely nothing to say.
@raspyshiit 1) Regarding Tracey Emin, I wouldn't say she thinks like a creative genius. What she says sound quite obvious to me. Genius is a word to be used very sparingly and very carefully. So, what's (good) art? First, I think art is not entirely subjective. It must be the result of an honest effort to understand, describe and translate reality, human feeling, events and beliefs using any suitable means. Creative power is essential but must be supported by a degree of technical awareness.
@raspyshiit 2) Also, art must pass the test of time. A genuine piece of art should be able to speak to men of future generations as well as those who lived when it was produced. Will Tracey Emin's works be regarded as relevant in two or three hundreds years? Honestly, I'm not sure they will.
@bordereye some extremely interesting points here. However when regarding her art from a retrospective point of view, i personally believe her work very much correlates to modern society, in terms of the empowerment of women, along with their exploitation through the media and the cult of the celeb. secondly her works truely focus on her and her inner thoughts, tracey shop etc, which reflect greatly with society's changing perception of how others view you, owed very greatly to reality telly etc
okay trying to convince people with your opinions isn't going to work... art IS a subjective topic.. so what if you shit on your car someone might call it art. some people get lucky, some don't.
"and I promised my self I would never make art again until I could justify it parallel alongside with my life"...that is so profound and it has helped me.
Tracy is also damn near sixty...what do you expect...also, i was just thinking of you, I was thinking of making a video about you, bringing to light the fact that you attempt to make women mutilate themselves, I'm sure Tracey is not the only woman you have harassed with this nonsense....what do you say, would you enjoy the exposure?
Oh shit i got you mixed up with another asshole, who is leaving disgusting comments picking of woman they do not know for absolutely no reason, well maybe mental illness, but you are right you did not say anything about hurting herself, you are only harassing her looks, as if you had something to offer.
yOu are the one making sugestions about people. you PEAR SHAPED FAG HAG with APPLE SHAPED HOMOS. I am not harassing, it's you gays that think I would want your art.
Tracey is not a FAG... she is Bi-sexual.... you're an idiot, besides , the reason I thought you were picking on her is because you look gay, and I thought you were jealous of her...lol....
@BraylonBlackhurst Well, I was probably trying to defend some position, but generally if someone points out that what I said was abusive: it is. Anyway, sorry you had to see all that,
@BraylonBlackhurst It was not a physical abuse, it is a physical fact she is YOU PEAR SHAPED FAG HAGS. and don't make random psychological suggestions about people.
Tracey is a crafty little ''Artfull Dodger'' conwoman ,she has a charm about her and could sell sand to an Arab .She could do a dump on a canvas and convince some rich arty twit that it was art ,ohh sorry she has already done that eg her ''masterpiece My first fag and shit of the day '' bravo Tracey keep ripping them off ,hehehe
Facepalm. Lemme do an imitation "UR 2 DUM 2 UNDERSTAND". Are you even intelligible? Or do you lack the logics to formulate reason? Or do you lack the maturity to give a real answer? OR PERHAPS YOU DONT KNOW THE GENIUS MESSAGE YOURSELF EITHER?
People like you slaughtered modernism. Choose your next words carefully, and shut the fuck up if you can't come up with a reasonable comeback. PROTIP; i know all fallacies.
That is a very unitneresting way to say things. I love Tracey's work, but saying that makes us all look bad. NO ONE HAS TO LIKE THIS! Just like not everyone HAS to like Jazz. But you have to respect her as an artist because she is one. She has made a career marketting her neurosies and thats how she likes to create. She's a great artist in my eyes but maybe not in everyone's. It is all relative. WELCOME TO POSTMODERNISM!
but when i try to come up with an intelectual arguement against it i can see why it is so appealing, to see a greater sense of life through mundane things and to be able to express yourself through subtleties. i will confess i'm a musician rather than an artist but i personally don't like this art over the old styles. and i am sorry if i have offended anyone with that, but as you must all understand, this is my self expression.
malenco64- We don't care that you're blissful, so get an education... because your ignorance is, plainly speaking, fueling an inordinate sense of self worth.. "I'm a musician" - laughable and pitiable a statement- considering the rest of your post.
if i was to be as pedantic as you i could probably go on at you. yes i am replying but only as i find you annoying...not on an intelectual level more of an itch that won't go sort of thing. You appear to think that all musicians are uneducated idiots who probably sit around all day doing nothing? Now remind me who the one showing ignorancy here is?
Malenco, I dom't think that all musicians are uneducated idiots, however, YOU are NOT a musician. As to whether YOU are uneducated, this is obvious. As to whom is showing 'ignorancy'- well as that is NOT a word, YOU are. Your reading comprehension is also lacking. Pitiable is the descriptive term that comes to mind upon reading your posts.
You would benefit from either going back to school and taking an English class or, learning to desist from using language that you don't understand.
i also am not a top grading student in music technology =]
you are so woefully arrogant that i could never possibly dissuade you from your god like status in your own mind.
so this is my last reply
any response to this from you will be seen in my eyes as you proving once more how you feel the need to be right about... everything, and thus inflating your already overly large ego
p.s "Your reading comprehension is also lacking" whereas it is you who initially started this by saying a musician who is not an artist is not a musician but a player of music? i was merely saying i wasn't an artist as in someone who paints or draws. well done
Yes, curzmg, malenco4 may have meant to infer visual artistry. This is difficult to ascertain because malenco4 is quite ignorant where language is involved, and seems confused when they post. A musician IS an artist, someone who has no artistic feeling can not BE a musician, only a person who plays the notes before them. To compound the difficulty in understanding or communicating with Malenco-Malenco's reading comprehension is woeful as well, else they wouldn't have misread my first post.
Sorry morethansalt, I agree with you partially but I think you are being too categorical. The ancient Greek 'artists' wouldn't have termed themself so, they would have termed themselves 'artisans' or 'dramatists', are you saying this devalues their art? I am yet to meet someone who doesn't value Erik Satie and yet he termed himself a phonometrician, not an artist or musician. Art is an insuperably broad term, it really depends on how you are defining it.
Why so much hate and anger towards self expressive art!? What the fuck is wrong with you people? Has she ever claimed to be "special"? Now, what is hindering YOU from expressing yourself?
No one really gives a shit about the expressing yourself part anyone can express themselves in whatever line of life they lead... No one's angry about that. But when you call something art that is not art, that celebrates the mundane, that exemplifies the disgusting and denigrates reality like Emin does, that's what angers people. She's a talentless individual who's "art" is simply laughable. Just because I sit in a garage doesn't make me a car just as calling objects art doesn't make them art
@TheArsenalfc101 - you're demonstrating why art like hers is important and useful. It provokes a reaction and your disgust is a good example of this. That's why I like her art, b/c it creates a dialogue, it catalyzes a dialogue and gets people moving rather than just staring at some picturesque landscape in which someone is a passive consumer of art. I appreciate all art but I prefer art that reaches out and attacks you, that provokes you. You were provoked, thus she succeeded.
@murdersherote13 ridiculous, genocide causes disgust, human vomit provokes disgust, immorality provokes disgust, why is this form of disgust regarded as art? There's a reason the music of Bach and Handel is known for evoking deep emotions among entire auditoriums bringing grown men to tears and there's a reason why walking into the Cistene Chapel or seeing the David by Davinci takes your breath away. Tracey Emin's work could not be differentiated by a child as art, it's just an unmade bed.
@Pudovkingruppen Why should a crackwhore tramp of a women be exalted and made into a millionaire by business men, while truly talented actual artists go unrecognised? This is what Marxist feminists want women to aspire to, a disgusting lowlife who hates every aspect of femininity and womenhood, an utterly depraved subhuman piece of trash. If only her mother aborted her.
you havent got the faintest fucking clue about wot your talking about.
this bedroom piece was her room where she stayed in over a period of time durring depression, i think you need to learn more about things before you judge.
i am not gonna argue about art (its to important).... BEAUTIFUL TRACEY! when i was sad i looked at your art and found faith to revive, thank you. that's all that matters after all. :):)
If presenting an unmade bed and fag packets etc is art, i have to disagree. Thousands of people's bedrooms look like that anyway (mine included at times). Art is important yes, but ffs, there are more interesting art pieces to be seen with more depth and care of attention. Emin's work is (apart from her prints which are good) overall a sad reflection of what constitutes art today which has become essentially, a big pile of shit.
What is wrong with LOTR? Are you trying to say that somehow Tracey Emin is greater than the mighty J. R. R. Tolkien. Tolkien is an artistic legend, he is sitting with Shakespeare and Wilde discussing the intricacies of Middle English literature; Emin is sitting in a corner throwing up, they are not comparable. Sure perhaps Emin is good, even revolutionary but she certainly isn't great.
Obviously but the films are still based on the books, the story is still almost exactly the same. They are well made films, it is usually only people who are obsessed with despising pop culture that dislike them. What is admirable about Emin, which is your favourite amongst her works and why?
I don't think that someone who only nerds and the socially inept cling to is someone comparable to Shakespeare. I mean Tolkien is admired, sure. But is he really that influential to culture as a whole. I mean....c'mon... If he never existed all of his fans would just go back to playing dungeons and dragons and watching family guy.
I think she is right about the college stuff. I found my best work to be in my dark places. When I stopped wanting to 'do art' I made work that was half good.
She is true and says it like it is. What a nice change in life.
That's such a stupid, ignorant thing that she says about bringing up children. Kids need love.....they require your presence more than they do your presents. Obviously the ideal is having a ton of money. But I think parents who LOVE their child are far more suitable than parents who make a living through their terrible, mediocre 'art', like Tracy and her contemporaries.
agreed evanmonaco, it wasn't just money she was lacking in that period of her life mushimushi but strength of mind, and body, she could hardly sustain herself let alone a baby? Brining a child into her home when she couldn't afford to look after it properly would be cruel and selfish, she isn't talking about giving the kids presents but abotu basic needs! Although i do agree that parents who love their children are far more suitable to parent, than those with money and no love.
Tracey is on her own, what she creates his her self as being her own subject as being herself. i wonder what really happened to her life? is she happy? or is she lonely depressed, so what if she has made money, it doesnt mean she is deeply happy?
this is a nasty talentless person. boasting about abortion, she should have been aborted.a woman has a right to choose over her own body.it is not a ticket to fame.

Well, yeah, but sometimes there's no want to clarify, because it wouldn't be understood anyhoo.. innit ;)

PROTIP; i know all fallacies.
kazinscky 2 years ago
That is a very unitneresting way to say things. I love Tracey's work, but saying that makes us all look bad. NO ONE HAS TO LIKE THIS! Just like not everyone HAS to like Jazz. But you have to respect her as an artist because she is one. She has made a career marketting her neurosies and thats how she likes to create. She's a great artist in my eyes but maybe not in everyone's. It is all relative. WELCOME TO POSTMODERNISM!

i hate this new genre of art completely....
but when i try to come up with an intelectual arguement against it i can see why it is so appealing, to see a greater sense of life through mundane things and to be able to express yourself through subtleties. i will confess i'm a musician rather than an artist but i personally don't like this art over the old styles. and i am sorry if i have offended anyone with that, but as you must all understand, this is my self expression.
malenco64 3 years ago
A musician who is not an artist is NOT a musician, just a player of music.
morethansalt 2 years ago
as they say ignorance must be bliss...
malenco64 2 years ago
malenco64- We don't care that you're blissful, so get an education... because your ignorance is, plainly speaking, fueling an inordinate sense of self worth.. "I'm a musician" - laughable and pitiable a statement- considering the rest of your post.
morethansalt 2 years ago
if i was to be as pedantic as you i could probably go on at you. yes i am replying but only as i find you annoying...not on an intelectual level more of an itch that won't go sort of thing. You appear to think that all musicians are uneducated idiots who probably sit around all day doing nothing? Now remind me who the one showing ignorancy here is?
malenco64 2 years ago
Malenco, I dom't think that all musicians are uneducated idiots, however, YOU are NOT a musician. As to whether YOU are uneducated, this is obvious. As to whom is showing 'ignorancy'- well as that is NOT a word, YOU are. Your reading comprehension is also lacking. Pitiable is the descriptive term that comes to mind upon reading your posts.
You would benefit from either going back to school and taking an English class or, learning to desist from using language that you don't understand.
morethansalt 2 years ago
yes i am not a musician...
i don't have a grade 7 in guitar
nor a grade 4 in piano
i also am not a top grading student in music technology =]
you are so woefully arrogant that i could never possibly dissuade you from your god like status in your own mind.
so this is my last reply
any response to this from you will be seen in my eyes as you proving once more how you feel the need to be right about... everything, and thus inflating your already overly large ego
good day to you sir.
malenco64 2 years ago
p.s "Your reading comprehension is also lacking" whereas it is you who initially started this by saying a musician who is not an artist is not a musician but a player of music? i was merely saying i wasn't an artist as in someone who paints or draws. well done
malenco64 2 years ago
Perhaps he meant artist in the more specific sense of a visual artist.
curzmg 2 years ago
Yes, curzmg, malenco4 may have meant to infer visual artistry. This is difficult to ascertain because malenco4 is quite ignorant where language is involved, and seems confused when they post. A musician IS an artist, someone who has no artistic feeling can not BE a musician, only a person who plays the notes before them. To compound the difficulty in understanding or communicating with Malenco-Malenco's reading comprehension is woeful as well, else they wouldn't have misread my first post.
morethansalt 2 years ago
Sorry morethansalt, I agree with you partially but I think you are being too categorical. The ancient Greek 'artists' wouldn't have termed themself so, they would have termed themselves 'artisans' or 'dramatists', are you saying this devalues their art? I am yet to meet someone who doesn't value Erik Satie and yet he termed himself a phonometrician, not an artist or musician. Art is an insuperably broad term, it really depends on how you are defining it.
curzmg 2 years ago
thank you

evanmonaco 3 years ago
Why so much hate and anger towards self expressive art!? What the fuck is wrong with you people? Has she ever claimed to be "special"? Now, what is hindering YOU from expressing yourself?
Pudovkingruppen 3 years ago 6
No one really gives a shit about the expressing yourself part anyone can express themselves in whatever line of life they lead... No one's angry about that. But when you call something art that is not art, that celebrates the mundane, that exemplifies the disgusting and denigrates reality like Emin does, that's what angers people. She's a talentless individual who's "art" is simply laughable. Just because I sit in a garage doesn't make me a car just as calling objects art doesn't make them art
TheArsenalfc101 1 year ago
@TheArsenalfc101 - you're demonstrating why art like hers is important and useful. It provokes a reaction and your disgust is a good example of this. That's why I like her art, b/c it creates a dialogue, it catalyzes a dialogue and gets people moving rather than just staring at some picturesque landscape in which someone is a passive consumer of art. I appreciate all art but I prefer art that reaches out and attacks you, that provokes you. You were provoked, thus she succeeded.
murdersherote13 1 year ago
@murdersherote13 ridiculous, genocide causes disgust, human vomit provokes disgust, immorality provokes disgust, why is this form of disgust regarded as art? There's a reason the music of Bach and Handel is known for evoking deep emotions among entire auditoriums bringing grown men to tears and there's a reason why walking into the Cistene Chapel or seeing the David by Davinci takes your breath away. Tracey Emin's work could not be differentiated by a child as art, it's just an unmade bed.
TheArsenalfc101 1 year ago
@TheArsenalfc101 ok you just stated that David was made by Da Vinci.... OMG that is idiotic!

EpicArmour 3 years ago 4
i can't agree with you more. well put mate.
popeyeisgood 3 years ago
No, she's brilliant. But I think people into LOTR etc (like above) cannot understand anything outside of mainstream... stuff
ChaChinnngK 2 years ago
What is wrong with LOTR? Are you trying to say that somehow Tracey Emin is greater than the mighty J. R. R. Tolkien. Tolkien is an artistic legend, he is sitting with Shakespeare and Wilde discussing the intricacies of Middle English literature; Emin is sitting in a corner throwing up, they are not comparable. Sure perhaps Emin is good, even revolutionary but she certainly isn't great.
curzmg 2 years ago
The films... you eejit
That is a LOAD of CACK
and I don't care what you think about Miss Emin.. She is brilliant :)
ChaChinnngK 2 years ago
Obviously but the films are still based on the books, the story is still almost exactly the same. They are well made films, it is usually only people who are obsessed with despising pop culture that dislike them. What is admirable about Emin, which is your favourite amongst her works and why?
curzmg 2 years ago
I don't think that someone who only nerds and the socially inept cling to is someone comparable to Shakespeare. I mean Tolkien is admired, sure. But is he really that influential to culture as a whole. I mean....c'mon... If he never existed all of his fans would just go back to playing dungeons and dragons and watching family guy.
chandru1103 2 years ago
Really interesting, Epic
Got any more interesting stuff to share ? YAWN
ChaChinnngK 2 years ago
I think she is right about the college stuff. I found my best work to be in my dark places. When I stopped wanting to 'do art' I made work that was half good.
She is true and says it like it is. What a nice change in life.
evanmonaco 3 years ago
That's such a stupid, ignorant thing that she says about bringing up children. Kids need love.....they require your presence more than they do your presents. Obviously the ideal is having a ton of money. But I think parents who LOVE their child are far more suitable than parents who make a living through their terrible, mediocre 'art', like Tracy and her contemporaries.
mushimushi4life 3 years ago
it was a smart thing she said.
evanmonaco 3 years ago 2
agreed evanmonaco, it wasn't just money she was lacking in that period of her life mushimushi but strength of mind, and body, she could hardly sustain herself let alone a baby? Brining a child into her home when she couldn't afford to look after it properly would be cruel and selfish, she isn't talking about giving the kids presents but abotu basic needs! Although i do agree that parents who love their children are far more suitable to parent, than those with money and no love.
