If some dont know PP use in CATIA for generate G-code ! compatibille with some controllers in this moment SmothStepper is not expensive and in Ethernet version is perfect cheap solution for big machines !
One machines 6000×4000×2000 mm , with wirless comunication , because USB with SS works max to 1,5 Meters !
step, one part of a revolution depending on the motor you may have a diffrent amount of steps.
but I'm not 100% shure if xdxxdy's methold would solve the problem of loosing a step, it's usually the contollers job not too loose steps, the software just says how many steps 'should' be taken... unless I misunderstood something...

oh man, great job but if the control lose a step??? i advise to couple a linear encoder at least for the long axis
