'vintage chips' are a load of bs. watch visual sound's mythbusters video on op amps. they make such a little difference in the sound that an op amp used in a video camera sounds just as good as these so called "vintage chips"

It's the same circuit -- ie, vintage bucket brigade chips, etc.

But strangely enough I sometimes read that it's inferior to the older version in some ways. For instance, that it's more noisy etc. If this is NOT the case, I would love to get the smaller version since it's a bit more pedalboard real estate friendly!

Yes but I clearly remember a Gearwire interview (probably still online) with mr. Mathews saying that the reserves of vintage Panasonic BBD chips are only good enough for a year and a half, which is when that interview was taken.

The vintage Panasonic BBD chips are in limited supply -- and we're using them. I haven't seen that video, but my guess is that we managed to find a previously-unknown source of some remaining supply of the chips.

Yeah, I've used both the new one and the original extensively, and it's the same circuit, same sound, just in a smaller box. This is my goto pedal, by the way. I rarely record a guitar track without this pedal.
