What, to me, is so wonderful about this performance is how well and deeply she knows, feels, and shares the meaning of every word, and the inner script she has moving through her entire performance, even after her 'voice' releases. Her performance here is remarkably moving and inspired.

I really can't understand what is wrong with some people. Those 80 people can probably sing this aria better than Angela and they are all waiting to show us how it's soposed to sound! Bring it on!!! Let's hear you... ANGELA IS BORN FOR MADAMA BUTTERFLY AND TOSCA!!! Tastes will always be different, but you CAN NOT dislike this only if you always hear Callas or Tebaldi in your head... It's ridiculous... Do you want opera to die with your divas that are "irreplaceable"?
@User320g I agree with you. Every diva will interpret differently, there are as many different renditions of this aria as there are sopranos that have sung it. The divas of the past are long gone. We must make room for new divas. Although in Butterfly it will always be Callas for me. It was the first rendition I ever heard of this particular aria, but I don't feel a need to bash Gheorghiu's rendition for that reason. She did it her way and this is her take on it. She has a career for a reason...
@Salomes7Veils I ment the exact same thing. My favourite Butterfly is Mirela Freni, favourite Norma - Callas, Onegin - Hvorostovsky etc.... But that's not the reason to neglect other artist in those roles. They all have something special.... You sed something great: SHE HAS CAREER FOR A REASON!!! They all exist for a reason. I'm an opera singer too (although still very young) and I don't have a career. That's for a reason too, and I admit that... :)
@User320g I am also an operasinger. Fresh out of the opera academy, with a master degree. I am 30 years old. Perfect time to begin a career, with my fach. I wish you all the best with your career. :)
Disgusting, singing an inherently sad song and converting it into a happy meal, nver seen a video of callas singing it but at least you could feel it was so tragic, and you feel that she feels it too.
@Executor009 She is happy because her love is coming home you numpty...it's only later in the song its sad because she realises the love of her life has got married!
What a beautiful voice. Great rendition BUT she looks too happy. This is a very sad part of the opera and she should act out the scene with more conviction of losing her love. If Camen Monarcha had sung this aria you would see it in her eyes and face. The despair the loss.
@pbernier34 I don't think the character should be sad, becuase she still has the hope of seeing again Pinkerton, her love. That hope is tragic for us, tht we know he will never love her again; but this aria is full of blind hope and naif. I think it's a really good performance and i listen to it every morning when i wake up.
I am thankful that I do not "know" so much about opera that I could point out all that is technically wrong with this. To me this is beautiful and nothing is wrong with it.
Her facial expressions (especially at 3:31) are so right for this tragic storyline.
Okay. First, I want that dress. Second, I want to learn about the errors some of you note. I agree it just doesn't sound as "right" as the others posted here on YT. If I don't watch to video and just listen I can almost hear the orchestra's playing not really matching her singing. Why would this be allowed to happen? I want to learn. Thanks in advance!
Lei canta benissimo, ed è molto meglio della terribile Netrebko. Oltracciò mi sembra una donna intelligente, seria e carina. Mi è piacuto molto la sua performance. Brava.
Angela is alive, she is great and she is going to be the best.. I have the privilege to say tomorrow or next week i am going to the Opera to heard Angela sing, people always say the past was better but is no 100% true.
If you listen to Maria Pellegrini sing it, you may then have a point of reference to compare great singing from simply bearable. But Callas is unbeatable as expected.
Excelente. No se porque me atrae de manera la Opera, siendo mis gustos musicales decantados por el Rap, pero dejo sin pensar dos veces mi otro gusto musical tan extremo por esto.
This is an absolutely frightful performance filled with unacceptable errors. She speeds up and slows down at her own choosing which throws off the entire orchestra. She also also chooses her own pronunciation. At 2:34 she sings "Par non marone" What does that even mean? It's heart breaking to hear such a beautiful aria butchered so carelessly.
Any critique of Angela (or any other singer) should really begin with the words, "I think..." or "In my opinion". Broad declarations that bash someone's immense talent reek of bitterness.
This is very subjective. Many great opera singers, conductors, directors, and patrons agree with me... and I think she's great.
CÁLLATE Y HAZ SILENCIO, MUNDO. CON TUS SONIDOS DE BULLA Y DISTORSIÓN!!! Y ES CON GRACIA COMO REPRESENTO-PROMOCIONO ÉSTA CANCIÓN (HERMOSO ATARDECER HAY EN EL AHORA).
Beyond horrendous. The audience was very polite and applauded her performance when they should have walked out after the third note. I hope this woman has the decency to never perform this aria again.
@emotion70 Go over it? Ok...Opera promoters are desperate to have a beautiful woman sing this aria. This woman is somewhat attractive and can play the part, but she can't sing the aria. All her beauty and emotion are worthless because she doesn't have the talent.
All of you highly-educated opera experts should get together and have a contest to determine who knows the most about the quality of this. Meanwhile, my fellow philistines and I will continue to listen to it and receive the great joy and pleasure it conveys.
Breath-takingly achingly gorgeous. It hurts to listen yet I must listen.

@KeyserGalt -we understand your opinion.you said that before.Go over it ,please.Fortunately, the rest of us think something diferently.

I notice that she does a lot of Verismo, I think it fits her voice perfectly and I also loved her Zerlina in Don Giovanni
