I can´t say that Im that much overhyped about the new Syndicate game. It´s once again a damn FPS game...and people wonder why I play old games? go figure!
@theGaminggrounds the rise of consoles caused the decline in game quality, due to everything being directed at console kiddies and their parents money.
companies like papyrus racing made some of the best phsics in a racing game ever - Grand prix legends engine also used in various papyrus nascar's (the last was NR 2003) and last i heard was still the game engine used in iRacing (or maybe that has changed over the last few yrs)
codemasters, EA, etc - just a churn house for cheap games
@theGaminggrounds the old syndicate games had a style of gameplay all to their own, with a certain amount of freedom to complete the mission as you choose.
rush in shoot the target, or blow his car up as he exits, cyborg mods etc.
@Obliv69 That´s what I love about the old games...the new one Is just yet another railroad FPS shooter. I mean, If It would have been something like Deus Ex 1. Then I would have been cool with It. But what could one expect? It´s a damn EA titel...
today its all about gfx, sounds, and cool menu's. so many companies have become a churn-house of the same game with a minor change each release.
complete it within a few hrs then shelf it for life.
a good quality game puts gameplay (and a lack of bugs @ release) first and foremost. thats why some games from the 90's and early 2000 era are still pretty cool to play. they just keep you coming back for more if you can look past the old school gfx or look..
@Obliv69 I would say that It´s ALL about the grafix, fanzy tv/magasine ads and for the biz suits to make shit loads of money. Like that prick bobby kotick (the biggest a-hole In video game industry), exactly! just take the damn COD series. Same thing over and over again, just a diffrent number and some small changes. Now that you mention that, I im not like a hardcore retro gamer that JUST play old games. But the oldies have more soul, play value and quality to them. Take Grim Fandango for ex
loool, but man I hate that they just turned it into a first person shooter in the new game and dont even include the pc version of syndicate wars ability to colour your outfits, such a simple thing but highly enjoyable.
Back in the day when EA was still Electronic Artists...Good times, bad times, at least they weren't the corporate overlords that are way too easy to hate these days.
You can revisit cleared sectors later at all time when there are riots (the satisfaction level of the population is low due to high taxes or whatever)
Bullfrog connected with EA then disappeared. Didn't Bioware just join with EA? Not bothered, I want REAL RPG's like Morrowind and Ultima Underworld and the Wizardry series and The Wither and Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate, not Jade Empire and Mass Effect and Dragon Age style RPG's!
Hell yeah. The game was very futuristically film-noirish, and they give it the cheesy action music and some fast-talking guy that talks about "mind altered cyborg agents" like they were toys for children.
@ras464 I think people still have imagination, it's just that they don't get the chance to use that imagination in their game creation, because games are so expensive to make now that no publisher is willing to take a risk.
1. If nobody would be willing to take risks, we wouldn't have even the simplest stuff.
2. Don't they have a research team or something to find out what ppl enjoy
3. Maybe more companies should make modding more accessible to wider range of public (Only one i can think of right now is Bethesda Softworks and maybe Running With Scissors).
@ras464 They know what people enjoy, and most developers keep making games that a lot of people enjoy to make safe money.
People did take risks, when two people in a basement could make a game. Like I said, it costs way more to make a game now, therefor less risk taking and more of the same mainstream thing over and over..
How could i forget teh Profits? Sorry 'bout that. Well ok no risks, but as i said earlier they could make games a little bit easier to mod. Then those ppl in the basement would take risks an the company would still make money :p

One of the best games in its time, but yeah, one terrible advert.
"Events occur independent of the player's action"
- Isn't that a bad point?
"Stunning digitised sound effects that matches the action"
- That's kind of a given, isn't it?

This game and the company rocked in it's time. Then EA bought the company and it went down hill from there.
