@grafiene Katatonia noob here. After hearing 4 of their albums (including this one), I'm noticing that as well. They seem to emphasize mood over lyrical structure, which works for their style I suppose, but can be mildly irritating. It almost killed Discouraged Ones for me; I nearly fell asleep listening to that. That one's gonna take some getting used to. VE's definitely my favorite so far, though.

@Relick666 Everyone has to start somewhere. In any case, I gave Discouraged Ones another listen shortly after making my comment. Was much better the second time around. Like I said, I just needed to get used to it, is all. Still doesn't top VE for me, though.

Mikael Akerfeldt was never part of the band, well at least his part was in some of the albums such as Brave Murder Day. He was not even the band member of the old Katatonia days. He was just doing a favour for Renkse (his good mate) because Renkse has lost his ability to growl. Opeth was already there when Mikael did the project with Katatonia. So it was obvious that Mikael didnt leave Katatonia to form Opeth. He just wanted to concentrate on his band

I will have to disagree with you for this reason:

If Mikael Akerfeldt did not leave this band he wouldn't have formed Opeth. Opeth is such a beautiful band and I am glad they formed. Also, Katatonia still remains with an equally great and unique vocalist to Opeth. Instead of one great band we have two different bands who suit differing moods. Think about it :)
