had to like this so that there would be thirty two likes... even number... divisible by eight... eight keeps it straight.... even number of characters in this entry... ok.
the repitition is the whole point in a way. the horror of it in a way is just that its bad luck. N just happened to choose dr. bonsaint as his therapist, and then he was fucked. its like cancer or getting hit by lightning. theres no defense against it ( whether its supernatural or just insanity), if you are unlucky enough to get involved, youre fucked and thats it.
If it's just in homage to Arthur Machen, after reading the Great God Pan, I can say the repetition is pretty much the way to go. No one ever learns anything in a horror story. Not even me. 40 words. :P
@JorgensZelda What do you mean? By the repetition is the way to go, and no one learns in a horror story? (just not clear what you said but sounds interesting).
@AliceElphabaWonka What I meant was that in both stories, just hearing about the "wrongness" in the story seems to spread it like a disease to the next person. Then the person they tell, then the next, so on. And what I meant by people never learn anything in horror stories is that Jill can go into a haunted house and be murdered, messily, and her friends will go into the same house, knowing she was killed by whatever is haunting the house and make the same mistakes she did. No learning curve.
@JorgensZelda Welll I dont think most horror stories you are supposed to learn much. And I am sure there are some things people can learn from them. Like the survivors of any slasher story will learn who the killer was, how to dodge him, etc.
@AliceElphabaWonka I'm not saying you as a reader should learn anything. I'm saying that the characters never learn anything. They keep getting picked off for the same stupid reasons. "Oh no, Katie went into that house and was murdered. I'm going to go in there too, even though I'm not a police officer, and investigate." /dead/. I like horror stories where the characters learn, so the killer has to out-think them. Just a preference.

Jesus Christ, this is scary. I am fucking trembling. Now I have to go and turn the lights on and everything. Damn you, Stephen King, i'll never sleep soundly again!
How did you even have time to be bored by it? It's too short. You probably spent longer commententing on it than watching it. What do you have- like, a 60-second attention span?
LOL, I see. You're right there, actually- it could have ended better. This story is eerie and all, but very repetetive. Everyone falls into the same trap, nobody learns a damn thing. I think this series was created more or less just to get people psyched up to buy the book before it was released.
I can see the point but how to go about a twist then? From character's perspective it's believe or not situation - if you don't, you don't see any danger and so ends up hooked, if you do believe in the tale and the threat to humanity's sake, well, aren't you hooked already?
