Damn!! I listened to this for the first time when I was about 5 years and loved it since. Sounds very elegant and cool. What I like the most is that instrumental coda, which can be extended for minutes and minutes and still you wouldn´t want the song to end. Well, at least the version we hear on the radio goes on and on. Perfect song.
Bobby Caldwell is an amazing, soulful singer-songwriter. Many people thought he was black which made him all the more fascinating. He's written some surprising tunes -- "Next Time I Fall" (Peter Cetera/Amy Grant). No doubt that one paid some bills! Bobby looks like a Jewish doctor, now ... but here, in 1978, he was kind of hot!
He will alway be the original "Cat in the Hat". Jay Kay, of Jamiroquai (whom I think is cool) owes this man a huge debt. I hope that he acknowledges it.
Yo ForbezFuture Here and im going to promote him lol

When I first heard it, I tought it was a black singer. It sure does sound like it, and the rythem is straight SOUL. Also this is a great song to make love to. LOL.
Most of what people think is cool was made cool by Afro Americans. Not only in music have they United but if you really dig in to the history Afro Americans they have bridged the races in everything. All the things we say , "Hey man" , "Give me 5" , "Whats up" , "cool" , "Heavy" , "Big Time" , our culture...
So this man might be white but he is singing a song wrote by a black man and a rhythm he could not undertsand with out the help of black soul ...
Wow I would not have guessed in a million years that this man was white lol. But he is amazing! One of my favorite artists. I think he looks a bit like hugh jackman here haha
Ha, loved this song since I was a kid, had no clue of what it was about but then, such as today, is one hell of a "sophisticated sounding song". Love the long instrumental fade out, makes you want to hear it again and again. Perfect song!!
this vid is so old and cheese'y. its a fantastic song one of my favorites never tire of hearing it. play it over and over sining along. am i a sad git?
I was 13 when this song was out. I didn't know how to talk to girls yet, but they all loved this record. I remember riding the bus one day with the heart shaped single (yes on vinyl, lol) and I got a lot of conversation that day! Thanks Bobby!!!
Man I miss Eighties Soul, the Quiet Storm Radio Format. All those low voice DJ's: 'KKJZ 103.3' your best in Magic Soul(cue thunder and lightning!) Up Next: The Whispers, Chaka Khan, Smokey Robinson and The Commodores. We are here to cure your late-night-blues!! LOL
I can still picture myself right under my parents Magnovox stereo!!
All this time I thought this was George Benson, but Bobby Caldwell as was said is DA BOMB on this song...I love it..makes me think of someone very special of whom I just sang a few lines of this to on last evening.. :-)
There used to be a better version of the video up that showed a bird in a cage on the bench at the end. No matter. The voice and the emotion and the "soul" in this song are still strong though decades have passed. He should be proud of this even if fashions and such have changed.
there no color in music he just blessed with soul like any indivdual would be who knows about music and his voice is beyond amzing very strong ,pwerful and sincere..just really beautiful hes not good he is excellent superb!
Dude, imagine my surprise when I see a black dude introducing some white dude as Bobby Caldwell at a live session. I remembered thinking "Wait... so... he's white? O_o; WOW, was I mistaken! O_O;" XD
So did I! I searched him on google and saw a picture...was really surprised. What an incredible voice!!!This is one of my favorite songs-I listen to it all the time.
So mean! He was kind of cute in that 'guy from the Scissor Sisters' sorta way! Bobby and Kenny Loggins had a similar look actually, maybe it's all in the look?
This song takes me back to 1978-79 and being in love with a beautiful woman. Hell, I still love her but that's another story. We went our seperate ways in life. It had something to do with me living abroad for 20+ years and her being something of a home town type. This song also reminds me of long nights in the Buckhead/club district of Atlanta during that time and the exuberance and passion of youth. Oh to be 21 again.
Actually I have been married 3 times in the 30years since and am currently (for 14 years) married to a woman I love, but yes, I still love the woman from my past. You can (at least I can) love more than one person at the same time.
ciarrai3 and davide131 you both said it, this song is the shit and i can never hear enough of this song!
i'm a big fan of hip hop n dnb few other stuff but can appreciate anything...
i heard this playing in a store last week n i heard a dnb version samplin it few days ago, just come home played tune on repeat LOUD like 5 times went for a smoke... came back and i've had to listen to it on repeat while singing along (yes i'll admit it) another 5 times!!
You know....Boy 2 Men has a version of this song on their "Throw Back" album. It's not as good as this ( The original ) but it's pretty good. The Albulm itself has a couple of pretty good old school remakes. You might wanna check that out....or....not.

he is the man. He naturally sounds soulful without trying. He's definitely no eminem or vanilla ice. the jon b of the 70s. I thought he was black too. I read where his label didn't want to use his pic on the albulm cover, to hide his identity from rnb radio stations. It was revealed once he was seen on tv.
wow, i spent my whole life thinking this was a dark-skinned black man with a full grayed out beard! Guess i thought only blacks could sing with that much soul, boy was wrong!
If you love this song, you gotta hear "Oh Jamaica" his songs are the joint and that album from which this song is off of is great. Yes I remember when this song came out. Timeless and beautiful
Jon B., Justin, Robin Thicke, pay attention. This song (along with joints from Mike McDonald, Joe Cocker, Hall&Oates, Teena Marie and others) is the DEFINITION of Blue-eyed Soul. RESPECT!!
Damn!! I listened to this for the first time when I was about 5 years and loved it since. Sounds very elegant and cool.

RESPECT!!
