  • ☼ Donec ♫ αγάπη ♥ स्वतंत्रता ∞

  • so powerful so intense

    greatest prog ever concieved

  • My fav song and my fav band and my fav album!

I have to agree with infulleffect08!

  • The crowd is going absolutely fucking mental.

  • I FUCKING LOVE RUSH!!!!!

  • Wish they'd bring back this Prelude section along with the first part of Cygnus X-1 Book I.

  • it woulda been epic if the last chord/note of hemispheres was the first of tom sawyer :P

  • thats a sick segue from hemispheres to tom sawyer. i prefered what they did on the r30 tour tho

  • rush is the best live band...

  • He looks like Ron White lol.

  • Sadly, this is not part of the Time Machine set, which I will be seeing for the third time this tour at the O2 Arena in London later today. Not complaining; the TM set is awesome. Can only hope that this is brought back for the Clockwork Angels tour and filmed in HD. I can't wait to hear the London crowd's reaction to the second verse of The Camera Eye. I for one, will be wailing like a banshee! :D Rush on!

  • In all my years as a fan of this most glorious band I have never seen them play any of Cygnus X-1 book II (except maybe a snippet as part of a medley—although I think that was from book I). This vid of them performing the Prelude is just mind-numbingly wonderful.

  • 2:23 I love how aggressive Neil's drumming seems and then everything stops and you hear the little TING!

  • What if they did a tour where they played 2112/Farewell Kings/Hemispheres songs. Would they get burnt out? I think they would. Yes I realize who I am talking about... If they could do it that would so sick

  • Hemispheres into Tom Sawyer? WOW.

  • Damn Geddy sang this pretty well! as far as I can see.

  • 2:30 gives me chills. CHILLS!!!

  • Now what if, just out of nowhere, they bring back the Xanadu/Hemispheres Prelude.

I would probably loose my mind.

Especially on the 2011 Time Machine Tour.

  • no body can touch RUSH

  • hahahahaha i love the old guy freaking out and standing up throwin up his horns when tom sawyer comes on.

    haha but hemispheres>tom sawyer

  • 2:30 to me is what rock n roll is all about. that moment man! there's a definite need for more heartfelt write-what-you-feel ART like this in today's world, I think.

  • Looks like Jeff Bridges from Dumb and Dumber!

  • @mediblue9 You mean Jeff Daniels

  • i saw this tour and had no idea of the setlist... when this song kicked in I lost my freaking mind

  • This is why people love music and not just like music. One word .... awesome.

  • Nobody ever did the wall of sound better than Rush. This video just captures how electrifying they really are--to the point that it's actually moving to see this after all these years.

  • Neil's drums haven't sounded this good for a long time - his Ludwig era gave him his best drum sounds, no matter how deep into the DW philosophy he is. The live recordings and videos don't lie.

  • I love Hemispheres and would love to hear this live. I heard that this is one hard album to play from the The Rush Documentary.

  • Ive seen all songs from hemispheres except this one!! Heard Circumstances on S&A in Calgary, The Trees on S&A In Edmonton and La Villa Strangiato On TMT in Toronto. I was hoping to hear this one on the TMT but it wasnt in the cards. Maybe on the Clockwork Angels Tour...

  • @ieetemos4breakfast If that happens(In it´s 20 minutes glory) and they don´t come to my country I´ll travel to wherever they´re playing it.

  • well i dont even expect them to play al 20 minutes of it but Id like to hear the prelude. But all in all Im happy any chance I get to see Rush, regardless of the songs they play or dont play.

  • Wow ! Thanks for posting ! Awesome !!!

  • i just came

  • Rush should never have dumped Terry Brown. They were so influenced by british rock/pop bands in the 80`s they just had to use a pop producer, nearly killed them off certainly pissed Alec Lifeson off he re done all the geets on Power Windows. But Lifson has to get credit for the way he handled all those crap keyboards by still playing some amazing guitar. Middletown Dreams is a Classic.

  • then all at once the chaos ceased...a stillness fell.. a sudden peace...

  • i was at this show!!!

    my fave tour!!

  • If you're gonna compare a RUSH Song, you compare it to every other song ever written and recorded... that wasn't made by RUSH...

  • Hemispheres is such a great song.

  • Class, my favourite piece of rock music of all time.

  • @reoreason i couildnt agree more...throw in 2112, xanadu and natural science...most bands would be luky to make one song like that...they have 4

  • For anyone who cares, in the recent documentary, Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage, they talk about the Hemispheres album.

Geddy said they wrote all the music and lyrics only to find out that all the songs were written above his vocal range but it was too late to change anything.

They also said it almost killed them to make that album and they decided they would never attempt something like that again.

  • @BobCobbTheMaestro i have btls on my ipod...watch it all the time...the part about xanadu and hemispheres was truly amazing...watching the other greats in the music world talk about these guys as gods...truly truly blessed to witness this band in my lifetime

  • Fuck my life. RUSH is the shiznits!

  • Freaky - I actually got the chance to play that guitar in '93, taking a break while Lerxst's tech was working on another ax - sadly I never actually saw it and Lerxst in action: wow.

  • Twin neck guitar...Every roadie's nightmare

  • Harmonics are really amped out on guitar. Killer wall of sound. Great video. Hemispheres is my favorite RUSH album. It takes me somewhere else. That's when their music matured. From 2001 Space Odyssey to STAR WARS. Something like that.

  • Holy Shit ...im hyperventilating and this video quality sucks. If i had been there I would have exploded

  • ...the crowd goes wild, and rightly so.

  • I can play la villa on bass not guitar tho

  • I was at this concert on Alex's side one of the best in my life, very good crowd too, you hear that screamin!!! I'm in there somewhere!!!!!! lol

  • @fkridge i envy u so much

  • Lol love the guy in the crowd on camera at :48, air drumming ftw

  • I was wasting 4 years away in the Navy at this time. Didn't see Rush that whole time. What a goddamn waste.

  • at least you didn't lose an eye or an egg fighting against the f*** taliban

  • awsome piece of music!!!

  • Presto tour, brother...that's where it was at

  • Was at this show! Xanadu/Hemispheres collide...BEYOND exstacy!!!

Still think RTB and Counterparts tours were the best in terms of stage production. 20 ft. Bunnies popping out of giant hats.. AND..one kills the other with a shot-gun, the stage opening up on the ramp along Neil, illuminating colors, lasers, fog/smoke (for Xanadu) fire(Animate), etc...

Not to say their most recent has not been impressive..but...I guess these tours hold a special place.

Either way...RUSH is still on top!!!! \m/

  • @negtype13 You got it!!

  • Easy to say when you Forget that there are personel/ushers all around looking for that specifically. And if you get caught..you get tossed.

Considering...this is a great job. A little empathy here.

  • My God Hemispheres prelude this Is superheavy when they go In to Tom Sawyer I´m In heaven for sure

  • you really get a sense of how good Rush really is when you listen to someone trying to cover this.

  • drfunk444, I agree. It's almost laughable when someone tries to cover anything by Rush......there is only one Rush.

  • I agree, i play this part of the song on bass and i would never get my friends that play guitar and drums and play this song live.

  • @RushRules4 How far are you from CT? A guitarist and I put together La Villa and can't find a bassist that can play it.

  • @nordbergsongs Ohio and i play the song La Villa

  • You should move to CT and join my band.

  • @nordbergsongs you still looking?? i can play it!! ;)

  • @rickobear64 Yes, always looking for good bassists!

  • @nordbergsongs cool! ;)

  • I almost crapped my pants when they broke into this song on this tour!! I wanted to hear the whole damn album live after this!!

    Hemispheres kicks so much ass!!

  • @infulleffect08 no song like it ever made...

  • I was at this show!

  • thanxxx dude

  • This is so great! thanks so much for posting. :)

  • all i can say is THANKS!

  • I'm a huge Zeppelin fan. That being said... wow! This kicks so much ass!

  • @Legacy76 zeppelin is obviously great but when u find rush...all pales in comparison and i mean all....

  • I Just wet my pants........... incredible.. RUSH- or Ever

  • instead of g3, bx3 or whatever the thing is for drummers they should get one of the best bassists, guitarists, and drummers. right they already have that its called RUSH

  • Apollo was astonished, Dionysus thought me mad. But they heard my story further And they wondered, and were sad. Looking down from Olympus on a world of doubt and fear. It's surface splintered into sorry Hemispheres....

  • ...We will call you Cygnus; the god of balance, you shall be.

  • We can walk our road together, If our goals are all the same. We can run alone and free, If we pursue a different aim. Let the love of truth be lighted. Let the truth of love shine clear. Sensibility, Armed with sense and liberty. With the heart and mind united in a single, perfect, sphere...
  • aaaah. happy.

  • was this 1994 Counterparts tour? If so, I was at the St Petersburg, FL event.

  • So awesome!

  • Gives me shivers...

  • Excelent vid, excelent song, this one definately has the best vocal of all the hemispheres videos ive watched... except the ones from yerded1 from 1978. I recomend both those recodings to any one who loves this song.

  • Hemispheres Prelude! FUCKIN' AWESOME!!! The hair on my arms is standing up!!! JUST AMAZING!!! RUSH IS THE BEST BAND ON EARTH!!! HANDS DOWN! THE BEST! This tour kicked major ass! Thanks for posting!!!

  • wow ! great video, sound was incredible ! where was this at?? This was vintage rush, everything they do is great but this is what Rush is all about, complex, sweet, just awesome RUSH, SIMPLY RULES THE PLANET !!!

  • There is Rush...

And then there is LESS than Rush.

  • @soarwing11 not to correct you my friend...but there is rush ...and there is not rush.....and there is the rest...and there is average...(cept pink floyd)

  • YOU'RE SOOOOO RIGHT... Anyway, where the fuck did this footage come from? Happy New Year!

  • Damn! This is one of my fav Rush tunes. Im suprised to find a live version of it which is very unfortunate. I wish they would play this and more songs from this era of Rush when they tour. Id spend 500 bucks to hear them play this and 2112 the entire way through alone! Id pay even more to see em play stuff like The Necromancer, Anthem, Bastille Day, Lessons, and everything else pre-Moving Pictures. That was most def the best!!!!

  • they should have put this on different stages

  • This is the Rush I love!! This was a great tour too! I remebering seeing this and being blown away!

I wish they still made songs like this!

  • The power and grace of Rush are all on display here. One of the best shows I've see at the Worcester Centrum in 1994.

Thanks for the post. Rush on!!!

  • Ive seen them 3 times in concert and despite how long the show lasts it never seems like its long enough the shows fly by they have the audience in a trance the entire time.

I hope to catch them at least one more time before this amazing ride called RUSH ends.

  • awsome eds 1275 but kinda ripping jimmy page

  • Saw this Live in '78 and it still sounds fucking awesome!!

  • Their music is beyond amazing, though I think on tour their new humor stuff doesn't compare. Seems like around this time it was more purely about music with a little goofing off but it seemed more natural or subtle like at 2:25. They still do an awesome show though and I've seen them every time since Presto. Love the echo the vocals and 2:00 to 3:00 is some of there stuff that takes them above all other bands in my opinion.

  • Oh relax. Rush will be doing it for years because, as Geddy said, "We can't think of what else to do." Unless one of them develops a passion for marlin fishing and loses a finger, they will do it until their fans go deaf.

  • This is fucking amazing

  • Rush and their amazing music has been a part of my life since I was only 15 years old back 1976 when I bought my first Rush album. Someday, hopefully many years from now, when these brilliant musicians finally end their musical careers, this grown man is going to cry like a girl for days! Come on old timers, tell me I'm not alone here!

  • I started listening to them around the same time as you did, and you're definitely not alone! :)

  • Im 18 and I managed to introduce a couple of friends to Rush and they both thought they were a great band. Although I didn't start liking them from a long time ago, I really enjoy listening to their music and would be really upset if they stop before I see them live. Although there's a generation gap, YOUR NOT ALONE!!! :)

  • If you haven't seen them live - you haven't lived my friend! They absolutely ROCK with a solid 3 hours of music except for a 20 minute intermission and they play flawlessly. True and consummate professionals! I've never seen band in 40 years pay as much attention to giving the audience it's money's worth than these guys. It's always been a religious experience for me and I've seen every tour since Hemispheres in 1978. In all that time not one less-than-perfect show! Truly a class act!

  • Im with ya brother! I am 43. I was turned on to these guys when "All The World's a Stage" came out and have been hooked ever since.Seen them in concert at least fifteen times, sometimes numerous times on the same tour! When they "retire" I am going cry like a baby too!!! I may even go to Canada and ask the guys,"Please, just one more record, just one more tour!!"

LONG LIVE THE BEST GROUP EVER!!!!

  • the snare drum sounds awsome

  • RUSH is the shit, and this version was badass. neils drums to me are the best sounding here and his most beautiful kit ever. love it!!

  • Absolutely great post! This kind of live footage is priceless. Thanks for sharing with all Rush fans! Superb

  • ... if our goals are all the same ...

  • Awesome Post! Would love to see them do the entire song.

  • I saw this tour in Los Angeles! When Alex broke out the Gibson double neck on and they went into this I almost shit my pants! AWESOME!! Wish they still made songs like this...beautiful and heavy!! HELL YES!!

  • At the top of their game. What a great performance.

  • Sweet

  • great performance

  • o my goodness eff yes

  • fantastic

  • NUFF SAID....

  • WOW!! Apollo and Dionysus would be proud. Killer entry man. I am on my way out and this CD is going in the player 4 sure!

  • The only bad thing is Neil's goatee haha

    I prefer

    Mullet Neil

    MUstache Long Hair

    Short Hair

    Rat Tail

    just can't take the goatee

  • to be honest i would not care if neil was a four foot dwarfe with a really bad limp and a hair lip !!! he is the god of drums !!!!

written in jest and with respect :)

  • Great but why did they ever start wearing suits?

  • It doesen't get better than this.

  • reminds me of my band playing that song in highschool gym oh so many years ago.

My fav album and them at the peak

  • my fav rush song ever!

  • Incredible song I listened to the whole 17 min thing in school today...

  • Awesome Hemispheres Is My Favorite Rush Record

  • Definitly up there with 2112, Vapor Trails, & Exit Stage Left.

  • im not a big fan of Vapor Trails... Exit Steg Left is a live album.... 2112 is great though

  • I can't stand Vapor Trails. I find it to to be quite a muddied mix. I can't pick just one favorite. I imagine it being like being asked which of your kids you prefer.

  • I think they nailed Secret Touch

  • I always liked how Rush made artistic music out of events in reality, or what was philosophised. Hemispheres is really great like the Who's Tommy, but Rush also has many other great concept albums. The sound is incredible.

  • Thanks for that intheflesh92. Its sounds similar, so i dont understand why the change, only geddy will know!

  • When I first heard Hemispheres, I didn't know what to think of it but it quickly grew on me and is one of their best albums for pure artistry.

  • boomin drums + flyin riffs + dizzing bass chops = RUSH...my favorite band in the world!...great vid. thanks! I've watched at least 5 dozen times...and still counting!

  • Just an amazing piece of fucking music...

  • Xanadu !!!

    YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!

THANKS FOR PUTTIN THIS ONE UP !!! LIVE !!!

    ALRAIGHT !!!

    FROM CANADA WITH LOVE !

  • The part at 1:48 is when I'd put down my bong, and put my fist in the air, shouting, "F*ck yeah!!".

  • Pass it over, man! HA!

  • Still my favorite Rush song.

  • I would have preffered geddy to use a Ricky, however it still kicks ass!

  • You gotta play a Ricky on this tune! What up, Ged?

  • Yeh, i prefered the ricky sound! I dunno wot bass he is playing on this? The ricky has a more clicky rough sound. Ahh, each to his own!

  • he's using a jazz bass

  • insanely great.... i forgot how much i love this band.

  • Saw them do this in 1980 whole epic kings , HEMISPHERES, at International ampitheater in Chicago, Iwas 17 at the time. oh the show was great.

  • They sounded sooo great back then! This sounded pretty great, here, too! Ged did better vocals than the '94 tour clip that I saw earlier. Better control!

  • submit? you actually make me submit to this crap/ and this garden road or what!?!!?

  • you should have geddy

    this is pretty sweet though

  • It's kewl to see Alex with Hair, flinging about! Like a rocker...but it must be hot under the coat.Well, this is inside, and normally in the winter, as aposed to now, playing the sheds

  • Wtf? I,ve seen Rush 21 times & i dont ever remember them playing this live? Does anyone know what tour this was? .........T4E?

  • This is from the Counterparts Tour back in 1994

  • Sweet stuff and not bad camera work! Thanks for posting.

  • This album is priceless. This band is priceless. RUSH ya that's what I'm talking about !! Lifeson, the KING of arpeggiated chords. RUSH and DEEP PURPLE that's all you need!

  • Seeing these guys tomorrow. It's going to be so awesome.

  • Man, I would pay good money to get my hands on some vintage footage of this song from the Hemispheres tour in '78. Do you think they still have some stuff in the vault that is yet to be released?

  • Personally, i would like to hear this live over the 2112 Overature. But apparently they aren't playing either!

  • everyday we ged a little bit older and a little bit slower (8)

  • Great sound ! Approx What year was this concert from ?

  • NYC'94

  • I'm seeing them 7-27-7 in Phoenix. Sat in 5th row last time, can't afford it this time. I love in this vid when Tom Sawyer starts and that guy on the left shoots out of his seat with the "rock on" gesture. What a lovable site for the most lovable band ever!!

  • i'll be there too!! and vegas the next day! woot!

  • Hoooolllyy crap that was awesome...definitely brought a tear to my eye!!

  • Sick, pure sick!

  • In Lerxst's defense, he only stated that the doubleneck was crushed by an elephant. He never went into the specific process by which the pesky pachyderm destroyed the instrument (nor did he mention the intent behind the act).

  • That bastard Lerxst lied when he said an elephant sat on his double neck! What's the world coming to if we can't take Alex at his word?! ;-)

  • The red one was damaged...he's got two white ones now.

  • Rush is timeless no one comes close
