@hicklespickle Dumbledore wasn't trying to kill him because he knew Voldemort had to eventually kill Harry. Voldemort on the other hand WAS trying to kill, and he failed.
We can all say that this is the wizarding duel of the greatest magnitude, because Voldemort here was probably at the peak of his power (reinvigorated and having nearly all the horcuxes intact), and Dumbledore, who was obviously the greatest wizard of all time, completely owning Voldemort in this duel.
@dicingnoob Have you even read any of the books? Both Dumbledore and Voldemort were both extremely powerful wizards, even without the elder wand. Even when Dumbledore did his NEWT's the guy that took him for Charms and Transfiguration said that Dumbledore did things with a wand he had never seen... The fact the he had the elder wand just made it so he couldn't be beaten...
@Parklout, They changed the battle in the film; it's a bit different in the book version. In the book Dumbledoore clearly wins the duel while in this film they made it look like a draw. I hear that in the book Dumbledoore makes statues come alive to help block Voldemort's killing spell attacks and he also uses apparition (disappearing and reappearing) as a way to dodge them.

He wore it thinking he can bring his family members back but he got cursed and with help from Severus Snape and his powers he was able to slow down the cuss but it was not cured. No, Draco was the one who successully disarmed Dumbledore not Snape. So the elder wand choosed his master as Draco (Draco didn't know. Nor one did know about it) but Voldemote misunstanded as Snape being the owner of the elder wand so he killed him not knowing Draco is the one but later it was revealed that Harry was the rightful owner of the wand because defeating Draco using Snape's spell. Niether harry did know he became the master.

Dumbledore knew he is going to die in matter of time because of the cuss and he also knew that Draco is going to kill him. Not wanting Draco to be murderer and get a lifetime sentence in Azkaban he said Snape to kill in-front-of death eaters. The End.

However, Grindelwald was unable to defeat Albus despite the fact that he was wielding the Elder Wand at the time. It is possible that Dumbledore only defeated him because Grindlewald lost the Elder Wand from a non-magical reason that wasn't from Dumbledore. Albus described himself as "a shade more skilful" than Grindelwald.
This scene no matter what is utterly mind-blowing!, however, I wish they had have added how this fight begun like it did in the Book, because in the Book the Statues on the Water Feature come alive and one protects Harry so Harry can't move so Dumbledore and Voldemort can fight it out, and all these little extra things happen in the Book like Dumbledore making a Fire Whip around Voldemort. But other than that it's still an amazing scene!
This fight is sooo much better than the ending, between voldemort and harry. I never read any of the books but I expected it be something similar to this scale, not a goddamn dragonball z kamehame fight.
Right now the best wizard battle ever made, either fanmade or a movie... which is sad, cause there could be much better battle made than that, yet there are not many tries to make even epic mage duel. Yet still, this is really awesome and creative, such variety of spells and stuff.
Volde never knocked Dumbledore down.. This was the worst movie adaptation of the entire series and was the one I was looking forward to the most. This book in my opinion truly showed Dumbledores ability as well as how he utilized Fawkes.. The producer wasted the opportunity in this scene as well as the scene in his office.
In the book i got no assumptions that Dumby did any better then in the movie. He threw everything at voldemort and voldemort managed to avoid them all. Even nearly killing him with the Avada kedavra remember?. I truly think if we are basing them off raw power ability Voldemort is greater. He was the one that traveled into the dark magic the most.
@SameshitdifdayFails I wouldn't look at it in terms of winning or raw power. Dumbledore was not dueling to kill Voldemor nor did he fear for his life. The chapter even shows how dumbledore was closing in on Voldemort,"speaking lightly as though they were discussing drinks".. i would even say Dumbledore was a step ahead of him for the majority of the battle. At this point he knew of the horcuxes and knew killing him would do no good. his intention was to stall Volde long enough to expose him.
This should of been Voldemorts voice throughout, he changed it in Deathly Hallows for some reason and it's stupid because it sounds soft and soothing.
I've heard a lot of people say that dumbledoor should have won because of the elder wand. ( not that he lost ) I don't think having to elder wand means you can destroy anyone in a duel I think it just means no one can destroy you. I think it just makes it damn near impossible for you to lose a duel even if you don't necessarily kill/defeat your opponent.... I think it woulda been funny if dumbledoor made horocruxs
This was such a bad scene... First of all with music it would have been so much more epic its just too quiet, secondly they downplayed Dumbledore's power sooo much - in the book Dumbledore won no doubt, but in this you're left with the feeling that Voldemort is more powerful (1:40)... Just not right...

Can't stress that enough to you people, if Jo wanted the films to be more faithful to the book they wouldn't of been released until she was satisfied, but she was with every final cut that you see. The film is not supposed to include everything in the book at all, also, Voldemort doesn't seem the more powerful considering Dumbledore has the only spell that hits unless you want to consider some dust hitting Dumbledore.
I loved this scene in the book Dumbledore is badass when he gets going! Two most powerful wizards dueling hellz yeah! Though this is one of my Fav books in the series it is one of my least fav of the movies. They cut to much out.

When Harry destroyed Tom Riddle's Diary, he notes how Voldemort had poured more than just his magic into the Diary, but quite possible a piece of his soul. He begins to suspects Horcruxes at this point. When Voldemort returns, he boasts "I, who have gone further than anybody along the path that leads to immortality..." , proving that he was immortal, so Dumbledore knew he couldn't kill him.
@judgeskidmark Precisely. So he didn't even bother trying to win, just hold him off until the aurors arrived to clear their story. If he killed Voldemort, people would assume he'd be gone, get lazy again, and overall fall into a false sense of security because eventually, he would be back.

and so tom, was a very happy boy, he learned to chant and in spare time play with toys. His biggest fear of all, was a man dressed in grey, oh dumbledore, oh dumbledore, oh dumbledore is gay. In amazing chants, the evil commanded '' a snake will fight!' yet with the grey ones power, hunger and might, he consumed his power, grim yet tight. And in these acts, one should know, an elder wand was used, to and fro.

Right now the best wizard battle ever made, either fanmade or a movie... which is sad, cause there could be much better battle made than that, yet there are not many tries to make even epic mage duel. Yet still, this is really awesome and creative, such variety of spells and stuff.

Volde never knocked Dumbledore down.. This was the worst movie adaptation of the entire series and was the one I was looking forward to the most. This book in my opinion truly showed Dumbledores ability as well as how he utilized Fawkes.. The producer wasted the opportunity in this scene as well as the scene in his office.

In the book i got no assumptions that Dumby did any better then in the movie. He threw everything at voldemort and voldemort managed to avoid them all. Even nearly killing him with the Avada kedavra remember?. I truly think if we are basing them off raw power ability Voldemort is greater. He was the one that traveled into the dark magic the most.

@SameshitdifdayFails I wouldn't look at it in terms of winning or raw power. Dumbledore was not dueling to kill Voldemor nor did he fear for his life. The chapter even shows how dumbledore was closing in on Voldemort,"speaking lightly as though they were discussing drinks".. i would even say Dumbledore was a step ahead of him for the majority of the battle. At this point he knew of the horcuxes and knew killing him would do no good. his intention was to stall Volde long enough to expose him.

I've heard a lot of people say that dumbledoor should have won because of the elder wand. ( not that he lost ) I don't think having to elder wand means you can destroy anyone in a duel I think it just means no one can destroy you. I think it just makes it damn near impossible for you to lose a duel even if you don't necessarily kill/defeat your opponent.... I think it woulda been funny if dumbledoor made horocruxs

This was such a bad scene... First of all with music it would have been so much more epic its just too quiet, secondly they downplayed Dumbledore's power sooo much - in the book Dumbledore won no doubt, but in this you're left with the feeling that Voldemort is more powerful (1:40)... Just not right...

@ivysmash THIS ISN'T THE BOOK. Can't stress that enough to you people, if Jo wanted the films to be more faithful to the book they wouldn't of been released until she was satisfied, but she was with every final cut that you see. The film is not supposed to include everything in the book at all, also, Voldemort doesn't seem the more powerful considering Dumbledore has the only spell that hits unless you want to consider some dust hitting Dumbledore.

I loved this scene in the book Dumbledore is badass when he gets going! Two most powerful wizards dueling hellz yeah! Though this is one of my Fav books in the series it is one of my least fav of the movies. They cut to much out.

@ongaudrey Dumbledore suspected Voldemort had made himself immortal, but he couldn't be sure. When Harry destroyed Tom Riddle's Diary, he notes how Voldemort had poured more than just his magic into the Diary, but quite possible a piece of his soul. He begins to suspects Horcruxes at this point. When Voldemort returns, he boasts "I, who have gone further than anybody along the path that leads to immortality..." , proving that he was immortal, so Dumbledore knew he couldn't kill him.

@judgeskidmark Precisely. So he didn't even bother trying to win, just hold him off until the aurors arrived to clear their story. If he killed Voldemort, people would assume he'd be gone, get lazy again, and overall fall into a false sense of security because eventually, he would be back.
