  • Hey! That's Josie Bissett from Melrose Place! I never knew she was on this show!

Also, I just realized/remembered that Valerie was on NBC, while the Hogan Family aired on CBS!

  • Love this show, every episode is on youtube now. They need to put this back on, we need an all 80's channel, it would be better than the cesspool of junk they air now

  • HOLY CRAP!! For some 23 years I have remembered the opening riff of the theme song!!! Damn!!! Fucking phenomenal!

  • WOW, I haven't heard that themesong in 20yrs tilljust now.

    Miss the late 80's / early 90's.

  • Can't get anymore white bread than this.......

  • this is a great friggen song

  • Whats crazy is how MTV was pop centered with no R&B but R&B singers like George Benson Roberta Flack, and Al Jerrau wote and sang nearly all the 80's evening sitcom theme songs.

  • this was actually a really cool show back in the 80's

  • Jason Bateman is such a hottie, had a crush on him back then.

  • Best. Theme song. Ever.

  • One of them isn't Hulk Hogan.

  • WHY DON'T THEY SHOW OTHER ONES LIKE THIS ON TV IT'S LIKE ALL THEY KNOW ON NIKE AT NIGHT IS FAMILY MATTERS I KNOW ABC FAMILY WAS PLAYING ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOWS STEP BY STEP BUT THIN THEY TOOK IT OFF AN NOBODY PLAYS IT I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I THINK THEY SHOWLD PUT SHOWS LIKE THIS BACK ON TV I WOULD KIE TO HERE FROM ANY ONE WHO THINKS THE SAME AS ME THNK YOU.

  • Yes!!! I remember seeing this in the late '80s but until now I couldn't figure out the show's name...just had a melody in my head.

  • love this theme the best of their other theme songs

  • The Hogan Family, Perfect Strangers, Step by Step, Family Matters, Full House, all those show's theme songs followed the same formula. lol

  • @capnbarfy Not too mention they all had the same houses.

  • i loved watching this when i was little, best thing about those of us who grew up in the 80's we grew up with awesome tv, had awesome toys to play with, life was good then sure do miss those days

  • What the fuck am I watching

  • I didn't know THE HOGAN FAMILY moved to CBS.

  • They don't make TV theme songs like this anymore!

  • Love the incestuous gang bang at the end.

  • 15 people have no family

  • They need a full length version of the opening theme song

  • Edie McClurg rocks !

  • Classic 80's sitcom. Jason Bateman was funny as hell in this show. If they ever put this show out of DVD Im buying all 6 seasons.

  • @EastCoastDude99 Actually, with Jason Batemen's growing popularity this past ten years, I'm surprised they haven't decided to release the show on DVD yet.

  • @NateSean

Thumbs UP!! If Jason Batemen brought you here!! cause that's how I got here LOL!!

(I"m watching Arrested Development on NetFlix and looked him up)

  • @Nkkicute Well I watched the show pretty frequently growing up, so that's more or less what brought me here. But Jason Batemen is a great actor, so it's cool to discover this was where he started off. ;)

  • @Nkkicute Just watched him on Inside the Actor's Studio and it brought me here

  • Sandy Duncan needs to pay attention more to her blind side at QB. No pun intended.

  • Ewwwwww I just love this theme and Roberta Flack's voice!!!!!

  • @lindenwood1000 How intresting. I didn't know who did this song. Do you know what the name of this song is?

  • @fh346 Not sure the title, but the singer is Roberta Flack, the woman who had hits in the 1970s with "Killing Me Softly With His Song," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," and "Feel Like Makin' Love."

  • i love the theme song

  • Valerie's Family became "The Hogan Family" because Valerie Harper was FIRED for demanding a pay raise... then they KILLED her off. Her character just "died", I remember in the house fire episode, "It's been two months since mom died".

  • what state did this show take place.

  • @jamesj0071 Supposed to be Chicago, Illinois, but the palm trees in the opening kind of ruin it. :)

  • Dam my baby sitter used to force me to watch these

  • The only episode I remember from this show was an Halloween episode where all three brothers have nightmares, but play this theme song and I know this is the Hogan Family intro. And this goes for most 80s and early 90s sitcoms. Shows during this time actually took the time to create and develop memorable themes.

  • I used to love that show. I remember reruns used to come one. Why don't they put this out on DVD? I'd buy all the seasons or at least get them on Blockbuster.

  • Remember masturbating to this when I was younger. Ahh the good ol' days.

  • I know it's pathetic, but this song makes me wanna fuck Sandy Duncan. I have no problem with spreading my legs and letting her grab my balls like she does Jason Bateman do in this opening.

  • The More You Learn The Less You Know? LMFOA Makes NO Sense But Still Good Song

  • These two actors playing twins, don't really look like twins. I thought twins were supposed to look alike. The older brother looks like Mallory from Family Ties.

  • @mccarrpo -Ever heard of fraternal twins? That's probably what the creators of the show were going for rather than identical twins.

  • @mccarrpo That's probably because the actor who played him, Jason Bateman, is the brother of Justine Bateman, who played Mallory! ;)

  • i thought its the hulk hogan family :/

  • I believe that's Roberta Flack singing the choirs

  • hahahaha all I can say is hahahaha. oh shit that is what's her name on the these song Roberta Flack?

  • This show is on 7two here in Australia one of free to air digital channels. I have being waiting for years for show to return hope they run from episode 1 till the end i hope They run this show with Perfect Strangers then Growing Pains in the afternoons.

  • Love the 80's!!!!!

  • Mrs. Poole falling during the football tackle - ah, the subtle things in life which make me happy! :)

  • What's the font called? I know prior to this it was used in Cheers.

  • @SenhorBundy I think it's a variation of the "subway" font [at least that's what it's called in Open Office lol]

  • Man this show sucked so hard. Id miss all the cool cartoons after school because of my paper route and when I got home all that was on was this shit. Wah wah.

  • This must have been one of the later seasons...all the kids are grown up.

  • I love that guitar riff.

  • Was one of my favorite sitcoms when I was a kid. I think it actually got better after the whole Valerie Bertinelli debacle and name change. And this was back when Jason Bateman was actually cool.

  • @MikeAM78

    He's cooler now.

  • @MikeAM78 It was Valerie Harper who was the original star.

  • @ncdude367 Right it use to be called Valerie's Family

  • jiji esto lo llegue a ver jiji me suena!

  • Sandy Duncan's glass eye was the star of the show.

  • @JeffroTV That is a myth. It's her real eye, but the optic nerve was destroyed when a tumor was removed. She has no sight out of it, but it is her real eye.

  • @JeffroTV glass eye?

  • @CWM880 she had a fake eye.

  • The Last Season

  • I think the ONLY reason I liked this show was because I thought they were all related to Hulk Hogan

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW I remember this!

  • It's funny, the guy sitting on the couch playing chess with Mike, reminds me of Mr. Belvidere.

  • @xxoxia How 'bout Higgins from Magnum P.I. ? lol ;)

  • @scottievand -I was pretty young for Magnum PI, although, I did watch it. I'll have to google him.

  • I never realized when I was a kid watching this, how genius the song is. So many great key changes. It sounds like something I'd write when I'm high.

  • I remember this show. It came on on Mondays at 7;30 pm after Alf.

  • wtf is this?

  • OMG!!! I loved this sow as a kid. Jason Bateman was so cute and dreamy back then. I also loved the theme song it just made you feel good. Thumbs up for TGIF!!!

  • This was one of Miller-Boyett's first sitcoms. Believe it or not. The only ones before this was Miller-Boyett-Milkis. Or Miller-Marshall-Milkis.

I believe ABC was supposed to pick this up because it was released 2 weeks before Perfect Strangers (as Valerie) But, they passed it off to NBC and then CBS for the final season.

  • I loved this show when Valerie was on it when she went off it went to hell

  • I remember this show back in the day. It used to be called Valerie, and they switched titles after Valerie Harper left. Funny thing that always got me is the chorus in this song is Step by step day by day... and the show Step by Step used the same set. Family Matters too. All three families lived in the same ABC universe.

  • @trilobug that is pretty interesting. now that i think of it the Step by Step set was the same, but are you sure about the Winslow abode?

  • My rental agreement?? I threw it away!

  • Whats exteremly creepy... My last Name is Hogan.... And this is like 10 yrs. before i was born.

  • @SocialPrincess1 that's not creepy at all. you're an idiot.

  • Damn nostalgia!!! : D

  • It started off as Valerie's Family, then Valerie, then The Hogan Family.......and Hogan Knows Best!!

  • so how did they kill off the mom?

  • @rangerdave1973 car accident

  • @rangerdave1973 - I think it was some cancer shit, or something similar. I can't remember exactly.

  • This has to be one of the most seriously epic television theme songs out there. I mean, there are plenty to list, but this is easily a Top 10. I vaguely remember the show, but I know that I did like it when I was younger. I wish there would be more stations like TV Land, or Nick @ Nite that would dedicate itself to more 70s, 80s sitcoms. Watching the Fresh Prince, or Rosanne makes me feel old and I'm only 25!

  • @BluesAndTease

It's Roberta Flack! That's why it is so good!

  • This was my fave sitcom in the 80's. I had an enormous crush on Jeremy Licht, Jason Bateman and Danny Ponce back then.

  • @70stacy - Psh, today's TV shows are such shit, that I even have a crush on Bateman, and I'm a straight guy!

  • @xxoxia lol. That's funny. I agree w/you on that though, I thought I was the only one who couldn't get into a lot of today's shows.

  • @70stacy - Lost and Friends are the only 2 shows I've liked in the past 20 years.

  • I don't remember this show. what year was this?

  • @IluvDonnieandJordan The Hogan Family is an American television situation comedy that aired from March 1, 1986 to July 20, 1991. It was produced by Miller-Boyett. ...

you can wikipedia for more info

The short blonde was hot and that Bateman guy was banging her

  • @IluvDonnieandJordan This was 1990-91, It moved to CBS for the final season.

  • @chuckers40 - I'm sure this aired in the 80's, didn't it? I remember all of these shows being 80's. Once the 90's came around, everything started becoming about special effects. Well, maybe not the very early 90's, but once Kurt Cobain died, everything started to suck.

  • @xxoxia The show started as "Valerie" in March 1986, then became "Valerie's Family" for the second season and then became "The Hogan Family" The show ran a total of 5 seasons. 4 on NBC and the final season on CBS.

  • @chuckers40 - Yeah, I think I joined in on the second season then, because I don't remember it ever being called just "Valerie", I remember it being called "Valerie's Family" when I first watched it. That, and I don't remember watching it that many years. I don't think I saw it all the way until the end because I moved or, some other reason.

  • has anyone ever noticed a lot of shows in the 80s were set in chicago Like Family matters, Perfect strangers, Punky Brewster, the hogan famil,y Married with Children,

Webster, Joanie Loves Chachi and a few ill fated series not to metion a lot of buddy cop movies and brat pack films were set there is it just me or am I the only one to notice

  • @KingDT2007 - Actually, weren't Webster and J loves C set in Wisconsin? I know Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley were in Wisconsin. They all wanted to portray that middle class happy family that doesn't exist.

  • @xxoxia jonnie loves chachi the spin off of happy days was set in chicago while happy days was set Wisconson webster was set in chicago as well according to imdb. i am just saying chicago was ubiqutiesly used as a backdrop city in the 1980s with fiction comedy action drama during that decade. I mean i noticed it a few months ago if you think about it that trend continued till the early 90s then it shifted back to NY now this decade it is shifting to SoCal as a mainbackdrop

  • @xxoxia in jonie loves chachi chachi and jonie movie to chicago webster was set there as alex karas had links to the city because he played for the bears laverine and shirley was set in milwakee

  • wow..looking for that years... i thought to looking for series from the 90's and then i'll find it... great. check this out :

    growing pains,beverly hills 90210,degrassi,the wonder years,saved by the bell,my two dads,the fresh prince of bel-air,step by step,full house,Family Matters,life goes on,Married... With Children,facts of life,golden girls,jump street 21,fame,Melrose Place,Rags To Riches,Parker Lewis Can't Lose,the storyteller,thirty something,wonder woman,alf,Murphy Brown

  • That theme song was longer than Ghandi

  • another great show from the 80's.

  • Jason Bateman HA!

  • This show used to give me the creeps ...Just found it odd ;(

  • I wonder what ever became of all these teen stars of the 80s? Jason Bateman is still around. haha

  • I would like to see a parody of this and it's The Hulk Hogan Family!

  • i love the super awkward family style orgy @ 1:03

  • I can't get this stinking song out my head! Aah!

  • I used to get drunk and watch this while randomly shouting, "HIGGINS!" at the T.V. screen.

  • @Anrkist713

    Me too!

  • bunch of nazis!

  • why was val dropped/leave from the show????? Unless she was a jew>>??

  • @cindyspaceful I think she had problems with the producers, story lines etc. Nothing to do with her religion.

  • @cindyspaceful yea Val sued Lorimar productions over certain rights or whatever and they fired her I think.Anyway she won the court battle but turned the page & went on to other things.I prefered the show with Valerie.I luv evrything she does! :)

  • @jeanandbilly I loved VAL on MTM.....and her own show RHODA...Yet jews are money people......Just my opinion....I know jewish that say the same..... Yet media won't touch it in fear of law suits.....Yet I love Val.

  • @kduideo Irony of the sort Valerie is Catholic & so was Nancy Walker(RIP) who played Ida her Mom to perfection.Anyway Val won against Lorimar to the tune of $2.8million if I recall. I think Bernie Madoff didn't do any favour to the money-minded cliché either.

  • I know it's pathetic, but this song makes me wanna go ahead and have a family, ha ha. Weird, hun?

I used to watch this show when it aired, and it didn't move me back then. Funny how you perspective changes after you live some life.

  • @Yobachi2007 that's not pathetic, it's actually sweet.

  • @jnctf

    Well okay, thanks.

But don't tell anybody I know. Being sweet will ruin my rep.

  • @Yobachi2007 LOL not at all! To be honest, I kinda felt the same way. This song makes you wanna do better than average so you can have a family like the Hogan family

  • @Yobachi2007 Nothing pathetic about it. As for perspective, it certainly does change with time huh?

  • Comment removed

  • @Yobachi2007 Ya, I probably would've kept that to myself, not judging...

  • Thx 4 posting!! I loved "Valerie," why did Josh Taylor get billed last though?

  • @video77ab Sometimes the "and [actor's name]" billing is just as good as being billed first.

I don't know if you watched Charmed, but after Shannen Doherty left, Holly Marie Combs required that she get the "and ....." last billing, when Alyssa Milano got the first one, which highlighted that they were the stars of the show.

  • @Nakabe125 Don't forget the "Special Appearance by" and the "as".

  • John Hillerman, is best know as Lt. Higgins on MAGNUM PI with Tom Selleck. I also saw Hillerman, on Paper Moon.

  • It was a fun show, I think I found Jeremy & Danny on FaceBook

  • Aww wow, I used to watch this! Memories!! Gotta love YOUTUBE! :-)

  • I remembered thinking that the father had a great drop-back pass. This video many years later has confirmed that...lol. He had to have had a football background.

  • @rocklatex Yeah, he does....so does his brother. His brother's a football coach.

  • OMG, Josh Taylor was such a hottie on this show, I loved the Hogan Family. I know Josh Taylor is now on Days of Our Lives as Roman Brady and Jason Bateman was on a show called Arrested Development, but whatever became of the rest of the cast? Any info you may have is appreciated. Thanks

  • Danny, Jason and Jeremy = hotties :o)

  • Wow , I forgot all about this show. Fun stuff.

  • I use to watch this every morning, loved the song too

  • i can nver forget the zombie episode lol grew up on this show small wonder my secret identity

  • I remember when Danny Ponce was Jason Avery in Knots Landing...

  • Roberta Flack? I knew that voice sounded familiar.

  • The ultimate man has his own show? wow!

  • Wasn't John Hillerman Higgins from Magnum P.I.?

  • Is this Roberta Flack singing? I used to love this show!

  • @buckleyj27 This beautiful song is sung by Roberta Flack.

  • epic!

  • what was the LAST year this show was filmed? was it 1989? anybody??

  • @crazeenydriver The show, was canceled in 1991. The last show aired on CBS in JULY 20, 1991.

  • Why hasn't this show been put on DVD?

  • Does anyone remember the episode where Mark cussed a lot, and he was forced to put a quarter in a jar, every time he said a cuss word? The jar got pretty full. I don't remember many specific episodes, but that one sticks out.

  • I remember this comedy... The song is Magical... O my God..

  • Josie Bissett?? Wasn't she in Melrose Place? But with shorter hair.

  • i like alot of sitcom startings..and they used to be nice and long....my god!

but this music sounds sad to me now..i dont know why i guess i miss the days i was little when sitcoms and movies were better.

plus this starting had roberta flack as singer..i didnt know.

  • sandy duncan gave me boners when i was a kid

  • @Flerg3 Must have been because of her glass eye..lol

  • @Flerg3

That was nice of her. How often did she come round?

  • The Hogan dad was hot!

  • though i never fully got into the show, that song sticks to my memory forever.

  • Jason Bateman?!

  • Sneaker -Shoe Day

  • Didnt they kill off the mom so she can become RHoda

I remeber seeing the dad on 90201 getting blown up dylans dad

  • @doc312 I think Roda was more near the 70s, but I remember all of that to that's funny and I'm young as hell.

  • @doc312 The dad is also Roman Brady on Days of our Lives.

  • @doc312 Rhoda was way before this in the 70's...they killed her off because of contract disputes and changed the name of the show from Valerie to Valerie's Family, then The Hogan Family.

  • its easy to idealize the past, but come on, this is really a crappy song. "life is such a sweet insanity"? Yeah, THERE's a great line.

  • @Weedahoful Lol I think that's a great line, it's so true

  • Classic song. I was just thinking of the Hogan Family theme song a couple of days ago, so I decided to look it up.

  • Wow, I never recognized the voice of the singer in this intro. It's Roberta Flack!

  • @Dreamline78 - I have the theme on my iPod...I love it.

  • @AllisonTheSNLGuru Did she record a full version of this song? John Sebastian recorded a 3-minute version of the "Welcome Back, Kotter" theme, and I have that on my iPod.

  • @Dreamline78 - I'm not sure...I've never located a longer version.

  • @Dreamline78 wow! I never knew that! But when you really listen to it you can hear that it is her.

  • @Dreamline78 I love this song! I never would have guessed the singer.

  • @Dreamline78 really? U mean who sang the original "Killing Me Softly" back in 1973? Roberta Flack performed this?!

  • @25phillycheesesteak The very same. I never recognized it before, but now when I hear it it's unmistakably her.

  • @Dreamline78 Roberta always had one of those pleasant pop song voices. Everything she sings is catchy and quirky. Even when she's singing a deeply moving song her voice still has that pop sound to it. She's always been delightful to hear.

  • Wth I wanna to see this show in czech (česká) tv !

  • I loved it the first year when it was Valerie Harper's show.

This version is good but first one was better.
