  • the bet int the parking cone is rad!!

  • Anybody what key this is in? My shopping cart is currently tuned to standard.

  • :o is that jack black pushing the trolley?

  • i think there equipment got stolen and they improvised,

  • the guy at 2:58 is like, "the fuck?"

  • Too freaking cool.

  • @Drewsputin Am I a trustafarian?

  • @russianbluey you're a sham

  • wow i love animal collective but i really didnt like that .

  • Animcal Collective is so great...it weirded me out at first cause of all the chaos in the music but then it made sense to me, it is so strange...and beautiful.

  • I believe that is Emile Hirsch pushing that cart. Cool

  • disapprove

  • they have attitude, but this kind of experimental music do not makes me want to dance... so move on to the next revolutionary band!

  • Punks!!!

    :D

  • Why is Jack Black with them?

  • What ever happened to liking whatever the fuck you wanna like simply because you fucking LIKE it? You people are sad, why waste your time trash-talking everyone who likes this band when you can just move the fuck on and listen to what you want? And fuck all this hipster bull shit; people gotta start being themselves and only worry about themselves. Stop paying attention to what everyone else is doing, especially if you apparently don't give a fuck.

  • @musiclovecomedy2630 Such a hipster thing to say. Get out of it.

  • Who the hell was the guy pushing the cart? And the sound looping in the background is definitely from Taste. :D

  • panda bear is so freaking funny in this!

  • They're having fun and still making music that sounds as brilliant as when they use their "real instruments". They'll always be genius. They have been for the past 10 years and will continue to be for the next 10.

  • @TheOdderOne True, you don't have to 'be cool' and 'on drugs' to enjoy Animal Collective but it does help ;)

  • @Drewsputin Hipster is a word people resort to when they can’t accept different tastes in music.

  • HIPSTERS FO LYFE!!!

  • @Drewsputin So all the “junks” they use are reserved for us third world citizen and Americans are a breed of people “real” instruments reserved for? How sad. What’s so wrong with being experimental?

  • @Drewsputin get three friends, get a shopping car,t 2 drum sticks, and a safety cone and try to make something better than this and put it on youtube for us. I FUCKING dare you.

  • this is what Animal Collective does when they're all just bored

  • Aww I think Noah was having fun at the end... :)

    I love these guys.

  • Woah, I didn't know Zach Galifinakis was in Animal Collective!

  • Ah I forgot about this! I love this

  • what ever this was.... just blew my mind

  • Quite the accomplished musicians!

  • Those overlapping rhythms are delightful. They work great together. It makes me want to jam with folks.

  • I hated this song on their album, but this version makes it bearable.

  • god damn drum circles

  • Oh, the love I have for my dear, dear Animal Collective.

  • dumb

  • hahahahhah traffic cone gathering at the end

  • where most people are handed a guitar and asked to write a part for a song they say "ok what key is it in?" avey tare just says "hand me a stick"

  • quite nice

  • Sounded like a bunch of hipster shite to me.

  • can any one identify the very first sound in the beginning and the very last sound in the end

  • i love you

  • shrigglemictiggles92; This is infact a bunch of sounds and it turns out that's kind of what music is. But you must also listen and notice the silence between these sounds so that you may listen.

  • Animal Collective is a revolution. And as in all revolutions, most people freak out.

  • @Oddely Not really.

  • incredible beings, nice to know there's people like that around us.

  • But its just a bunch of soundssss

  • Yes, dearest, music is a bunch of sounds... good job! :D

  • Wow. Not only at this video, but at the conversation it started.

  • I don't get how people beating on random objects can speak to ones soul... but, whatever makes you happy. I just don't get it personally.

  • LOVE THE ANIMAL COLLECTIVE just.... is the way it is.

BEST MUSIC EVER!!! Feels? just perfect

  • I agree with all the "hipsters." AnCo is literally some of the most aw-inspiring music. Granted, I first gave them a listen, and didn't like it for about 2 months. Then one night, with a few hits of acid involved, I UNDERSTOOD what this music was about...what I couldn't understand was HOW it was this way.

Perfect in every sense of the word.

  • Let it be known you don't have to Be Cool and On Drugs to like Animal Collective.

  • @TheOdderOne

have to be cool, you dig?

  • @TheOdderOne The drugs really help

  • @TheOdderOne maybe not, but you have much more of an appreciation for their music if you do drugs.

  • @TheOdderOne But, it sure helps!

  • @TheOdderOne

    Hear hear!

  • @TheOdderOne Drugs arent prohibited though

  • @Sauveman1 This is surely so

  • @TheOdderOne shut up fgt

  • Comment removed

  • @TheOdderOne I want to get sick that all you losers like AC. Blue.

  • Maybe it doesn't speak to some(person with the comment way down there), but Animal Collective speaks to my soul more than anything ever has. And I can listen to their stuff over and over and I just love them more.<3

  • Well If Animal Collective were looking to stir up controversy with this Take away performance, they have succeeded admirably. They are just using what they have at their disposal to make music. They are after all in the "experimental" genre. This video defines them.

  • oodle-nay on the oor-day

  • I'm so glad AC are keeping these compositions alive even in this new era of sonic exploration.

  • it's the band the most creative

  • Comment removed

  • This isn't really that cool. I find animal collective very pretentious sometimes.

  • i like some of animal collectives stuff, but sometimes i think they're just being weird and out there just for the sake of being weird and out there. this is one of my least favorite blogotheque performances.

  • there is nothing 'weird' about this. open up your mind, uncultured slob.

  • wow haha. i didnt think my criticism of this video was even remotely malicious, i was just giving my honest opinion - I really do like a bunch of animal collectives s stuff because its creative and makes me think(ie. my girls, amazingly beautiful music and lyrics). i dont take any thing away from listening to a guy mumble into a traffic cone while his friend hits guitar strings with a drum stick randomly tuning it in diff directions. thanks for your maturely crafted constructive advice though :)

  • this guy just heard my girls somewhere and tried to pretend like he was into them by coming onto youtube and making some stupid claim, he doesn't listen to ac at all.

  • yes, i guess you would be the expert on 'coming on to youtube and making some stupid claim' afterall. im not that into them, i like some of their stuff, thats all. if this bands 'true' fans are any thing like you and ShadowMario10, I'm quite proud of not being a 'true' fan.

  • sorry, but those who have been following AC for an extended period of time know that this vid is artistic expression. nothing else. they aren't attempting to portray a certain image; in fact, on Panda Bear's 'Person Pitch', there's an entire song dedicated to lambasting those who merely listen to portray a certain image. you're blinded by your ethnocentrism and pre-conceived notions on musical structure. cry somewhere else.

  • What exactly are you talking about? "Portray an image"... mmm... nah, I can't understand, really. Maybe it's you who should stay somewhere else, maybe in the shadow, as your nickname suggests.

  • another ignorant slob. get the fuck outta here, squarenuts.

  • Stop being an elitist and get over whatever people say. Fucking hipsters. I love animal collective, but people like you sorta piss me off. If anyones got a shred of intelligence they already knew everything you just said. Go waste your time somewhere else.

  • I can't believe how smart you are

  • would it be artistic expression if i took a shit in a bucket and threw it in someones face just because i said it was?

  • This is music at its highest point of expression.

  • @TheDrZanzibar yes. now shut up and listen.

  • @ShadowMario10 Do you own a hipster handbook with definitions of all of the rarely used and obscure words you just used?

  • snob.

  • I disagree with your statement. I just think they make music for them and not other people, and make fans by that route... people who like what they like to make. Otherwise I do not see much wrong with your post, but I do happen to like this video very much actually.

  • wow

  • actually, ac are rather experimental, and while most other bands doing take away shows just play their songs in new environments, ac by nature just kinda plays around more to find new sounds, so this is just more of an exploration than a performance. when you go to their shows, it's the same way; you're not going to hear your favorite songs - they're going to play new stuff they're still working and experimenting on.

  • it is youre right,, rad

  • isn't that the same location as that of the famous "orange clockwork" scene, where alex kick the other droog's ass?

  • i think you mean a clockwork orange.....lol

  • neptune titan stars can frighten

  • I love Animal Collective

  • Comment removed

  • jeez, before you judge the band based on this.........thing...........why don't you listen to an album or something

  • this is interesting.

  • yes i agree with "sound like a bunch of high school kids messin' aorund like I used to do late on a saturday night" but i think that is why other ppl and i have love for it. like you and your friends, its fun different and most of all, sincere

  • I think that actually it's their strength of just fucking fucking around with music that lets me connect with them, and i really don't care if it's musical or not. Just my opinion, since everyone seems to be sharing theirs...

  • lol this is a take away show, which means there are no serious drums, take it for what it is, a really cool rhythm made from outside elements.

  • you guys are assholes

  • im trying to like these guys but i really can't.

  • Some people are saying this isn't the song to start with, because its from an abrasive second album. So, keep looking for more songs than that one.

  • You're welcome to your opinion but hte idea that explaining to someone they're wrong to like what they like is futile, misanthropic & misjudged. I've never yet found rational explanation to have the slightest impact on my own liking or disliking music...no, the aural experience is all that counts.

  • lol they all luk depressd. this is wat musical hobos luk like doing their thang

  • come on guys - AC makes some decent tracks, but this is really reaching. REAL percussionists make these guys look like the amateurs they are. they should stick to the computer generated stuff, because in terms of actual talent, they are slim on it.

  • Are you kidding me? Panda Bear's drumming is amazing. Not all of them are amazing percussionists, but Panda Bear certainly is.

  • I wish I could agree with you. But growing up a jazz lover like I was, I really can't place these guys in the category of 'instrumentalists'. Doesn't mean I don't dig carrots, or take pills, etc.....I love rockin out to brother sport...dig me some rabbit....but take these guys' electronica away, and they sound like a bunch of high school kids messin' aorund like I used to do late on a saturday night....

just sayin'. no need to be the UberFan who says they do no wrong.

  • listen to spirit they're gone/spirit they've vanished and educate yourself of the drumming genius of noah lennox

  • man, Sung Tongs, Feels, and Strawberry Jam are transcendent minus the sampling. I mean, Strawberry Jam has a smidge, but still.

  • @garythetramp Feels is the one I'm still stuck on. Did you see the words is some of their best music to date IMO.

  • I feel the same! No pun intended.

  • And Panda Bear could definitely drum right next to any great jazz "instrumentalist" and you don't have to reach as far back as Spirit They're Gone or Here Comes the Indian to understand that. Listen to Cuckoo Cuckoo or The Purple Bottle. All I'm saying is maybe it's a tad incorrect to say that, without the electronics their so fond of these days, their sound like they don't know what they're doing or something...messin' around.

  • that's IS a stretch...growing up listening to jazz, (grandpa played with lionel hampton way back when), i think he has a LOOOOOOONG way to go to reach that level of mastery.

  • mmk, correct my grammar, but we're still talking about different things. Point is, they aren't setting out to fulfill any criteria you, me, or anyone may have. That's all. They do what they do. Some can connect to it, some loathe it. Same with any artist. Same with jazz instrumentalists (no disrespect, it's just a fact. jazz is terrific).

  • sure.

    enjoy.

  • So they don't have highly complex chord progresions, guitar licks, or basslines but that's not the way they get their sincerity and emotion across. It's not a necessity for good music that's worth a damn. The expression they display, to me and i don't think i'm alone here, is moving. I dunno, man, I guess we're talking about different things. Say what you will.

  • it's not like i never can find any pleasure in any of their songs - but i find that i can't listen to them any more ... they're music of of the variety that is great at first, but quickly wears thin to me. for me, there's not much replay value. they don't speak to my soul. nothing resonates within.

but of course, this is a very personal thing. i mean not to rob you of your joy.

i'm sworn to STFU about who i dislike these days ... I never shoulda griped about 'em in the first place.

    peace.

  • my nephew can do this with a sauce pan and a diaper.

  • your nephew is a musical genius then....or he's mentally challenged...the difference between the two is easily confused

  • he's 5.

and this is not good music. i like some of AC's stuff, but this is really pretty weak.

  • Well if it's pretty weak, which it may well be- just something throwaway- why not just get on with your life & listen to good stuff. What difference does it make to you what other people think of it?

  • take your own advice and leave me to my opinion. ya?

  • Replied above. This is a throwaway piece, but if you wanna go on explaining to ppl why they're wrong to like AC, be my guest. I'm sure it'll make the world a better place.

  • hi pot, meet kettle!

(and for the record, I think some of their stuff is great, and I admire their free exploration of sound....)

I'm as free to dis, as you are to praise. Only, you just can't seem to let me have my own opinions. And then in the classical mode of Projection, you attack me for doing - exactly what you're doing.

I sure as hell never pay attention to the negative comments on songs I love. I just groove.

  • I make a short comment, respond to your response, & I "just can't seem to let you have your opinions." You've made a load of comments on a band u earlier said "in terms of actual talent, they are slim on it" & I'm just pointing out that if u or anyone want to post comments on bands we think have little talent, there's plenty to keep going for a lifetime.

  • This is the exorbitantly form of recycling, brilliant :D

  • primitive!! these guys are

    geniuses with sounds...

  • these videos are brilliant

    !

  • yeeeees

  • tooo fucking cool

  • I like the fact that for no real reason other than maybe because he's cold Geo decides it's time to put his hood up.

  • This should have been recorded when they did a concert in Paris this year. I was in it... Watching an AC performance is a-must-do thing before perishing.

  • badass. near the end got pretty funny hah.

  • amazing

  • geologist is the man

  • they are all men

  • everyone is a man

  • woah man. wooooooaaaaaaah man.

  • actually, everyone is a woman originally.

  • i'm the man and you're the man and he's the man as well...

  • So you can put that fucking finger up your assssssss. Good song Grimshawr

  • thats incredible.

    ting a ling you sonuvab*tch.
