It's so amazing to see these commercials of when it was open and beautiful!! My great grandparents were the original creators and owners of Lake Delores. The park was sold and the new owners went bankrupt for those of you wondering what happened. I hope that someday it will reopen although it will never be the same as my family remembers it.

the problem with this commercial is that the park does not overlook route 66. that is several miles south off I-40.

I pass by here all the time when my family went from LA to Vegas, and I always found it a bit creepy and disturbing whenever i thought about an abandoned park like this. I decided to look up pictures of the then and now and its even spookier than I thought. Nevertheles, this was fascinating. To see it so full of life, and now seeing it abandoned and torn apart is truly a sad sight. I would have loved to go here it seems so cool. But i never really understood why it closed down. :(

I think the reason it closed down was because that no one going to vegas would want to waste time in a waterpark in the middle of nowhere. This reason was said in a few magazines too.

I lived in Barstow when Lake Delores was open and used took my son than as a child.

is it true that someone got hurt on one of these water slides and that he actually is disabled now and he sued this place so they had to shut down?...i also heard this same person had moved to colorado and now is bankrupt, anyone else hear this?

That water park wasn't along US 66, rather, it was along what had once been US 91 about 35 years prior.
