i did it even before tBC (: but i got on the altar of hakkar with invisibility potion, and then went left and turned right around the corner waited in shadowmeld for 1 to get passt and tamed it (: was cool, because that time they could be called in 3 colours, red orange and green, that is disabled, it's just red now :(

I used to as well, but then i realized that sometimes they back out of melee range to fire their ranged spell, which can agro unintended mobs. Thus I had to stop using it in raids

Wind serpents generally only back up if the mob is stunned or immobilized, which doesn't happen in very many raid encounters. Top guild on my server requires hunters use wind serpents :-p

That is a bug/phenomena if you will that only occurs when a stun is applied on the mob it is fighting. It will never happen unless you intimidate, etc.
