  • No 450R can win in a race unless the rider on the 500 doesn't know how to use it to it's potential. The 500 has more displacement AND it's a 2 stroke. Sorry but computerized shit isn't going to make up for that although it's quite nice. In theory, the KX500 should be significantly faster than the CR because it has a powervalve. I've never been blessed enough to ride one so maybe they're neck and neck but the powervalve is the reason why a Honda 250R or Suzuki LT250 can keep up with a banshee

  • alright half of you guys on this dont know what your talking about. first off, no CR 500 will beat a KX 500 stock. Kawasaki has KIPS. thats why Kawasaki 2 strokes are unbeatable. kawasaki 2 or 4 stroke either way they are on the podium. two strokes are unkillable. i have 5 kawis. and i have a 92 kx 250 with over 180 hours on the engine now i know it sounds impossble. but kawis are tough.

  • @kxmade Change your front sprocket to a 15 tooth. Mud and depris wedge inbetween the chain and sprocket and like to ware out the engine case. My uncle had this problem on his KX500. Dealer said KX500 is known for it. I think its because there motor is based from 1989-2004 with no real changes. When KX used a O-ring chain, whitch is wider than standard chain there's no room for it. To keep your stock ratios change the rear to a 50 tooth. You might want 15 front and 48/49 rear for the desert.

  • i started out with a 86 kx 500 and it was a beast very unpreditable and very unreliable but the power was undeniable the cr is just the opposite well built and reliable so to calm the storm of you kx and cr haters it depends on your setup who's ever running good and can hold it down is the winner and clearly the cr got its ass kicked and i own 2 of them hats off to the kx.

  • A friend of my father rebuilds old 500R Quadzillas. His personal bike is a 500Zilla with a Gixxer1100 engine tied in it. The thing's a death trap. He said he's done 90mph wheelies in 3rd gear. Would be a wild toy if you ask me lol

  • The Kx 500 was built for straight drag races/desert racing but not for monkeying around on tracks or doing jumps because it has way too much power for that. Dont be mad at me because your $9,000 450 4 stroke dirtbike cant beat a $1500.00 KX 500  SAD BUT TRUE!!!!!!!

  • My Kx 500 with a pipe will smoke any 450 4 stroke with a pipe. My bike piped produces about 64-65 ponies. I rode a couple 450's with pipes. They handled better, rode better, stopped better, and they looked a little more sleek and cooler. But they could not match the eye watering power like my KX 500 produces. So lick my left nut and kiss my proud white american ass!!! K5 rules every bike ever made!!

  • @jarrodm2002 Service Honda now makes KX500's stuffed in the newest 450 frame. All though the engines are still 2004 series, 450 vs 500 in matched frames 450 does'nt stand a chance on any track straight,circle,or MX. Service Honda is still producing there CR500 aswell. The engines are 2001 series. The frames are 2009 250f, go figure.

  • Actually a 450 can make 62hp....there are some here in VA that have done it. KX500 is stronger than a CR500...depending on who builds its.

  • The problem is that everybody SAYS it does 100hp but nobody can show a single reputable dyno? I have spent hours looking for even ONE legit calibrated reputable dyno Backyard dynos can be altered in the software to show anything the dyno owner wants it to show! He could show a 20hp increase for a regular service if he wanted to

    Need a reputable dyno like Akropovic Hotcams MotoUSA and other like them...not the BS artist selling party tricks down the road to get more customers!

    There is a power struggle going between themselves for sales based on handling weight and HP

    You will NOT get 35% more hp than any of them can get from their own motor. 35% gain on a full race motor is HUGE!

    Bit like buying a specialized V8 drag motor thats already worked and getting ANOTHER 35% mmm doubt it!

    48hp new = LESS than 42hp after 6 months without a valve piston & shim job

  • Actually, We have had two of our previous crf 450r engines sold to karting customer's wich have been sent out to socal for tuning, they get the engine back and my buddy owns a local show and shine shop (w dyno) stock the dyno said 47 for one of the crf's with the cart mounted, it put down 65hp. with the same tourque figure's as stock, the only thing the builder said is, "it will win races" but it wont last long. haha, I always remember that phrase. a cr 500 is the same way, at 65hp= high strung

  • generally all big bore dirtbikes (race bred) are great machines for power/weight ratio. but Ive seen kid's on 125's beating 450's before, You want to compare 2 bike for power/power then drag race is how you do it. You HAVE to admit, that a 450 is a very impressive machine only putting out one powerstroke every 4th cycle. That's technology. If you guy's are looking for power, then buy a new kawi frame, and slap a zx 600rr engine = win strap a zx 14rr engine = DEATH LOL. anyways this video is good

    For a weekend warrior the CR500 motor will run for years before you do a rebuild

    When it does need a rebuild it will cost around $150 for piston, rings, small end bearing, gudgeon pin and gasket kit Including postage

    Repair done by a 14 year old in the backyard in 45mins

    The CR500AF is hot but not strung - It is ported and blue printed

    E) if you can't replace a few gaskets, 1 piston, 2 rings, circlips, bearing, and a pin, then you need to learn. its as easy as 123... learn something

  • ok justenduro i can see what your talking about, but think about it, 2 of the same cars, same wieght, both hold a 3:51, now both owners have worked this beast as far as they can possibley push it, yet car no1 has 100 more horsepower than the other, like in magazines you get a skyline thats 1000hp like thats about it aye thats about as far as it goes, but no some other cunt rocks up with 1200, point is you can always push more its like how theres always some1 better

  • Here is the problem in your theory

    This is a .45L (less than a ½L) motor not a 351 cubic INCH motor

    This is a single cyl not a V8

    No turbos or superchargers to be bought!

    All you can buy is a 2nd stage cam and or a pipe - Thats pretty much it

    The CAM may increase you by 1hp (Check hot cams dyno's)

    The pipe may give you another 1hp (Check Akropovic dyno's)

    A 4% increase on HP from a performance motor is a lot.

    It's a small 1 cylinder 450cc motor not a 5.7L V8 (351 cubic INCH motor)

Gees my 84 cr500 makes 58hp according to honda, whitch is probaly exagerated a little but damn my bike is 26 years old and air cooled. I still cant see the pull these thumpers have on the new generation riders. They need to wake up and smell the 2T oil burning. My frame is no match for the modern bike but the motor still beats down any 450 I come across.

  • @tappmoney18 im not fighting for or against two strokes but all im gonna say is that the main reason that two strokes are beginning to diminish from the factory line is because of "global warming" and "going green." two strokes work differently than four strokes and they release a nice white/blue smoke from the exhaust (apparently "bad" for the environment). But still thats why two stroke 125's race in 250 4t races..same thing with a 250 2t and 450 4strokes.

  • Look at the take off, the rear end of the CR was al over the place and shooting out tons of dirt, the kX wasnt shooting out much dirt in comparision and was going straight.

  • Thats just the observation its not meaning that the CR is better or the KX is better just stating what looks to have happened to the CR. The dirt could have been looser on that side or the rider attempted to give it too much and the KX rider kept that bike in control. both bikes are pretty powerful just looks like the CR was out of control from the hole and had no traction.

  • 1995 KLX650. Bought it new & radiator developed leaks, waterpump seal & cooling fan went out & had intermittent engine mis-firing problem....All these problems in under 8 mo old.....

    and it corners almost similar

    but comming out of the corner is just ... being shot out of a cannon you get the wheel in to a rut an open the gas and you just get shot out , need to be carefull there , but its realy fun and fast to ride one

    jumping is REALY good , its not as light as a 250 , but then again its far from as heavy than a 450 , so it jumps way better , and has loads of power

    the power is different to , much more low end torque

    Just like 85 vs 125 or 125 vs 250 there are big jumps in power. The KX500 did 61Hp stock in 1989.

    It jumps / flys like a BRICK with 1989 suspension and brakes with a steel frame.

    Kawasaki sold the 1989 bike all the way to 2004 with SLIGHT / SMALL / tiny changes.

  • i have a 89 cr 500,it doesnt have a power valve,but the 93 or 94 and up does.

  • I believe the power valve is used to help bottom end power. At low rpms the valve partially closes the exhaust port and at high rpms it opens the port to normal size. At high speeds the cr and kx should be close. It is just the low end torque that separates the two. Regardless both are good proven bikes and if you own either one you have got a good machine that is a dying breed.
