I am quite aware of the history and claimed demographics of The Tiny Declining Fringe Religion™ aka The U*U Movement. I never said anything about a collective bias. I made it clear that I was talking about "atheist dominated U*U churches". Right?
The fact of the matter is that the UUA has turned a willfully blind eye to the anti-religious intolerance and bigotry that I and other people have been subjected to in so-called Unitarian "churches" for over a decade now.
Tiny Declining Fringe Religion? come on now. that's not very fair or necessary to say is it? isn't that the equivalent of using the word 'cult' as ou say you've been subject to?
now, i've already stated and provided reason for why the UU can't be and aren't 'athiest dominated'. as far as your second statement, there is no support for it, let alone does it contradict the reality of the evidence i've provided. would you care to point out where this is evident?
"Tiny Declining Fringe Religion? come on now. that's not very fair or necessary to say is it?"
ROTFLMU*UO!
Please direct your objections to Rev. Peter Morales, now UUA President Morales, Aspiring Adventurer. That is the exact phrase that Rev. Morales used to describe the current status of Unitarian*Universalism in his stump speech announcing his candidacy for President of the UUA. . .
All I did was add the ™ symbol. :-)
And no, it is not the equivalent of the cult label at all.
Individual U*U "churches" can be and are atheist dominated and *that* is what I was clearly talking about AA. Also, the UUA and/or CUC administrations could be dominated by the atheist faction of U*Us. I have very reasonable grounds to believe that Canadian U*U "churches" are largely atheistic.
There is incontrovertible documentary evidence proving that the UUA dismissed my complaints about Rev. Ray Drennan's anti-religious intolerance and bigotry and even effectively endorsed it.
To use your own words Aspiring Adventurer the UUA, its very aptly named Ministerial Fellowship Committee, the Board and congregation of the Unitarian Church of Montreal, and no shortage of individual U*Us including *way* too many U*U ministers, have repeatedly proven that they do not understand that discriminatory and derogatory comments like "cult" and "psychotic" etc. etc. are wrong.
Why do you suppose that one of my picket sign slogans says -
There is nothing "irrelevant" with what I have posted here Aspiring Adventurer. Unitarian*Universalists talk about "standing on the side of love" for victims of oppression and marginalization of various kinds but abjectly fail and obstinately refuse to "stand on the side of love" for victims of U*U clergy misconduct and other acts of oppression and marginalization committed by Unitarian*Universalists themselves.
My comments are relevant to the video itself and your follow-up comments here.
sorry for taking a while in getting back, it's easy to get sidetracked from a YouTube video.
as i was saying, of course this is irrelevant. this video is about gays, lesbians and bisexuals. i'd much rather save this video and the people it relates to the dignity it deserves.
is it such a bad thing to take this to a heart to heart discussion? and i really do want to learn from you-and visa versa! from my side of it, you seem so full of anger and i hope there's something i can say to help.
This video is by no means only about gays, lesbians and bisexuals AspiringAdventurer as a free and *responsible* search for its truth and meaning will tell you. In fact, believe it or not, President Peter Morales does not even mention LGBT people at all. . . This video is about the fact that "it is simply WRONG to demonize or marginalize *anyone*". Intolerant and abusive U*Us have been demonizing and marginalizing me for well over 13 years now. I deserve dignity as much as anyone else don't I?
"The official stance of the UUA is for the legalization of same-sex marriage "Standing on the Side of Love." In 2004 UU Minister Rev. Debra Haffner of The Religious Institute on Sexual Morality, Justice, and Healing published An Open Letter on Religious Leaders on Marriage Equality to affirm same-sex marriage from a multi-faith perspective."
there. in black and white. now can we take this peacefully to a heart to heart in our YouTube mails? we've splattered this tussle all across the page.
As they say, it takes two to tango, or indeed tussle, or indeed "splatter". . .
I am perfectly aware of the fact the slogan "Standing On The Side Of Love" was originally used to promote marriage equality, but the fact of the matter is that the UUA's "Standing On The Side Of Love" campaign has significantly broadened the scope of that slogan. At least in theory. . . The SSL campaign is now ostensibly for *anyone* who has been demonized and marginalized.
As you know Peter, Christians and other God believing people are regularly demonized and marginalized in atheist dominated U*U churches because they belong to another group or "tribe". U*Us continuously allow themselves to (mis)treat people and label people in ways that marginalize them. I have been labeled as "psychotic" and had my religious activities maliciously labeled as a "cult" by intolerant U*Us. When will the UUA stand on the side of love of love for me and provide restorative justice?
i can see how you can come to feel this way Robin. but if i may speak for both sides. just three things. the faith is comprised of people of nearly every faith and position. it's very hard to imagine them having a collective bias.13% infact identify themselves as Christian. only 18% identify themselves as Athiest. UUism itself was founded from the merging of two Christian denominations.
what i do believe you have experienced are people that have had bad experiences with organized religion that the UU seems to attract. you must understand that imposing and competing influences, religious dogma, conversionism and proselytizing greatly affect people nowaday. the whole world feels the extreminity, fundamentalism and comepeition found in and between Christianity and Islam. the UU prides itself on consoling people with these experiences.
