The best film of all time, according to many polls and critics, all the more amazing because it was almost not made, and Bogie and Bergman didn't much like one another. You could fill a book with all of the classic lines and scenes in this story.
I wish Sam (Dooley Wilson) had recorded more; what an amazing pianist and singer. And Claude Rains steals the show.... Can't wait to watch this again.
Of course, the real center of the movie and best piece of acting by far is Henreid's Victor. At first he's so cool and restrained it's hard to believe he's a charismatic leader but when he lets loose with the Marseillaise, he's got passion & power enough to stir people 70 years later. Or when he gently questions Ilsa about Paris--in vain--and she pops up with her interjection "Victor!" He stiffens with terror at what she's maybe going to tell him; then we see him relax. A nifty piece of acting
"I am shocked! Shocked! To find that gambling as been going on in here!"
"Your winnings, sir."
"Oh! Thank you very much!"

interesting to see the old Van Nuys Air Terminal at 0:41. Also at the end the hanger was at VNY at the time.
Writing? Greatest ever. Read the script or at least the highlights. 10 of 10.

Nothing wrong with this condensation of Casablanca. The Czech subtitles are fascinating to me--but then I love languages--and this film.
God, Ingrid Bergman was gorgeous! And every character--even the bit players--all memorable. A miracle of a film.

Renault: And what in Heaven's name brought you to Casablanca?
Rick: My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.
Renault: The waters? What waters? We're in the desert.
Rick: I was misinformed.
(Classic writing!)
