I am trying to understand why it seems so many more people like Simon than Mark. I think it might be because youtube is a place that is visited by a user of an average age of someone in their early 20s maybe younger, and also quite a high percentage of teens visit youtube. And those are the sort of people that are likely to prefer Simon to Mark because of the indie-young thing.

Also, to all the people who say Mark is not funny - think more broadly or shut the fuck up.

I think the reason is that Simon already had a reletivy large fan base from his time presenting Pop World. Simon also tries to play the "nice" presenter whereas Mark is very blunt and most of the time tells jokes that are very edgy.

I think theyre both good hosts but they have their own style, whereas Simon seems to be like hes been brought up in the dark and is shocked by virtually everything and Mark likes just calling people obscene names =P.

When does Simon ever try to be 'nice'? All he ever does is take the piss out of his guests and keeps going on and on untill it just isn't funny anymore.

Sure, he has his moments and I still enjoyed the show when he presented it, but it just isn't the same without Mark. He also took the piss out of his guests, but he was usually right in doing so and knew when to stop (with maybe an exception when Sophie Ellis-Bextor was on the show.)

Well I'm 18 and Mark Lamarr's a lot funnier. Amstell's unbelievably annoying and pretentious to the point where... Bill Bailey left the show... and I don't watch it anymore for that reason xD

Im not an emo kid or whatever. Im 34 but I personally dont think its fair to blame them for making Simon popular. I mean to each his own really. I think both Simon and Mark are funny but there is no comparison. They both do things their own way and more power to them. I think to judge people for liking either is really unfair, they have a right to like whomever they choose.

Simon isn't necessarily more funny (wouldn't know; I haven't watched fully any Mark eps.........not really interested), but I think people find him cooler and definitely cuter.

Also, humor is a matter of taste.... it's ridiculous to say people are in the wrong for not finding somebody funny.

Lamarr is probably the only comedian who's material often went completely over my head.. or at least, it felt so, but I don't think it was that difficult. Rather, he was confident enough to deliver it as if it should be funny when often it was quite weak!

Well put, I dont think it went over your head, I just think its a style of joke that has to have a perfect delivery in order for it to work. It seems at least in my opinion Amstell is much better at delivering the lines. To me it seems Lamarr is just reading the lines as Amstell put on this character playing the role of a silly talk show host and having fun while he does it, and i think the humour in that really shows through over Lamarr's take on simply reading the material.

gecko - i agree with some of what you say. To be honest, when i watch TV i don't really care about the feelings of the interviewee, so i like Simon slightly more than Mark. But i still like Mark and I actually think Mark is a bigger talent than Simon. Mark is more intelligent and spontaneous, Simon I think makes some of his jokes beforehand and just tries to remember them when the timing is right when he is interviewing a person and then say the joke.
