Perfectly played! Just the right tempo and nice addition of flourishes to keep the sense of this piece having been originally an improvisation by Buxtehude. Thanks much!
Oh for joy!! The Triad (Reincken, Lubeck, Buxtehude), always liked to show off their 'bottom 'C'..... This Praeludium and Ciaconia is no exception! Oh how this needs the 32' prompt pedal reed of the Mariankiche!! But, well executed that man!! Well done....thanks mate! :)
absolutely amazing, completely and utterly faultless, this really does sound exactly how mr buxtehude would have probably played this piece, absolutely joy to watch!
The question concerned performing editions: the Wilhelm Hansen edition (2 vols - major works in pt 1, smaller in pt 2) is, in my view, the finest available. Having used it for years, I was heartened to see Piet Kee using the same edition some years back ;-)
its a.....i dont´t know the englich word, in german it´s calld koppel, so he put the stops from the secund manual on too the first. i hope that you understand my wrong englich;)
Oke Danke! :-) Ich weiß, was das bedeutet, bin selbst angehender Organist. Aber trotzdem Danke! Ich kannte bloss diesen "technischen Ablauf" noch nicht.
Your country is very young nation, and Holland and germany has a very old organtradition. it, s going back to the 15th century . Sorry, it, s true we got the best knowhow
There are some contemporary organbuilders from the States who also build fine organs based on organbuilding in the 17th and 18th century. For example John Brombaugh and Paul Fritts. In the 17th century there was no organculture in the States yet. The great organbuilders of that time though, like Schnitger, Hinsz and Silbermann, were mostly based on the continent, Germany and the Netherlands. Only Schnitger build an organ for Brazil. You have to check the organs of Bombaugh and Fritts though!
The works of Dieterich Buxtehude have been published by many editions, like Peter, Barenreiter and Kalmus. Just look for one of the "complete organ works" editions.
Wonderful! I'm not very familiar with the organ works of master Buxtehude, to me this is a very good place to start. Thank you for sharing this. I think I will come to the Netherlands one day to play those wonderful organs, I might as well since one of my family lines come from Holland.
You did great for someone who had little practice! Very curious ,how do you get to play these instruments, I take it, the average person can,t walk off the street and just ask to play,at the organ in a church where he,s never been before been before. Or can they? Many Thanks!
In my country fortunately most people who can play the organ are allowed against a little amount of money to play great organs like these. Just a phonecall is enough most of the time. Especially in the province where I live, Groningen, there's an enormous amount of well preserved and restored historical organs, some of them even stem from the mid 16th century. If your an organist who likes to play 'old' music, The Netherlands is heaven.
That's very good performance. I imagine how it'd sound like if you'd practiced it more. Beutiful instrument as well, baroque music on a typical baroque organ. I enjoyed your video very much. Thank you :)
prachtig gespeeld Ik hoop dat je dit nog eens op het tranceptorgel in de rotterdamse Laurenskerk speelt

Fine performance, and a characteristic Schnitger sound - glassy mixtures and gloriously creamy pedal reed. Bliss!

Bach must have had this in mind when he wrote BWV564 as there are echoes of it in the manual and pedal parts at the start.

What is he doing at 3:51 with the button? The keyboard is moving!!!! WHAT??? Can someone explain the effect of that to me?
friedrichsacher 2 years ago
The manuals are being coupled, due to the mechanical action this actually shifts the keyboards so that the coupling takes place. Awesome, no?
LadyofMetal16 2 years ago 4
@LadyofMetal16 more like "Awesome yes!"
I wish I had access to a tracker action organ, if only to see what all the fuss is about, and for the sheer awesomeness of Mechanical Coupling

In England it's called a 'shove coupler' colloquially. There must be a more technical term, but I've never heard it lol.

Wonderful performance in the true Stylus Phantasticus free spirit and fresh mood of the early Baroque era!
It reminds me a lot the performance of Ton Koopman at the Schnitger organ of St Ludgeri in Norden, so fresh and live.
