Medal of honor actions usually take place in the rush and confusion of battle with little time to think about what is going on
these guys had all the time in the world to think about what was happening and trust me they knew what the probable outcome of this would be. legendary mythical courage!!!
no you get medal of honor for showing outragous courage when knowing the consequences.
these guys are brave as fuck for what they did, heavily outnumbered and still went in to try and help the downed pilot. they had time to think about it and thats what makes them brave. they requested to go in 3 times before being allowed, and they knew the dangers, thats why they deserved that medal of honor.
If you would only see this video without knowing what they did, it'd be boring.
But I know what those guys did, and I have deep respect for them. When I look at this vid now, I start thinking and together with those pictures and the music it becomes kinda special.
Got it. They're from the 3-disc Deluxe edition. There are two discs just for behind the scenes stuff. The second disc has the stuff you're talking about.
this song gives me major chills up and down my spine just thinking about all the sacrafices that these people make also makes me think about 9/11 and how some people actually think that our government would just kill people like that. Btw Plz pray for my friend to come back safely from Iraq. Thanx very much
Thank you very much. I know what you mean. When this incident took place back in 1993 there was so little coverage done on it that most people didn't even know it was happening.
Even some of the actors who were in the movie didn't know it had taken place.
let me amend that. There was coverage done and it was of dead Americans being dragged through the streets, but that was after everything went down. While it was taking place there was almost no coverage at all. No one really knew why we were there in the first place.
Randy and Gary were Delta snipers. They lead very secretive lifes, they are sworn to secrecracy more then rangers or seal as they have access to classified info.
There were a huge amount of complications that added to all the chaos that day. Some of the troops didn't even know there were TWO Blackhawks down. But considering everything that happened, these men still made an incredible stand against the odds.
No shit i was all lost in the movie i didn't know what was going on either, The two Delta snipers kind of roped down into a lions cage and locked themselves in they knew that they might die but they won't leave their buddy down there to die without a fight i'm glad Durrant made it out and to be thankful to these men and to tell their story.
what these two did that day is beyond the most elegant poetry ever writen.I love stories of courage and this one is almost beyond belief. There is a old military saying.I or we would follow this great leader into hell. These two went willingly down into hell on behalf of there brothers in arms.they are gone but they will live forever.
Randal Shughart and Gary Gordon posthumously recieved the Congressional Medal of Honor for their actions that day. They are the only snipers in US Military history to recieve our country's highest award. They are the true embodiment of warriors...
you know i dont think that your comment has anything to do with this video. it is here to honor two americans who willingly fought until they had nothing left, in the face of overwhelming numbers, with no chance of survival. They gave their lives to protect the bodies of their fellow soldiers knowing that they could buy atleast some time until a unit could come to extract the soldiers. this is here to honor the heroism of two men not to comment on America's role in somalia
I have to agree with you guys: Gary Gordon and Randy Shugart are probably two of the most heroic soldiers to ever have walked this great earth. They have my undying respect and honor. R.I.P. Gary and Randy
I couldn't tell you how many times I've watched the movie. I don't cry when I hear Amazing Grace, but instead I get this overwhelming urge to stand at Attention and salute. Could be that it's because I'm ex-Military.
hi im australian and every day since i heard about gary and randy ive strived to be as brave as they were on that day i wish that they could have lived on
Thank you very much. Yes he will be remembered, for everytime I hear Amazing Grace now I think of both Gary and Randy as well as the rest of the brave men who died that day.
I want to thank everyone who posted comments about my video. It means a lot to me. I'm sorry I didn't respond before now, I've been offline due to personal reasons.
Randy Shughart and Gary Gordon are easily some of the bravest soldiers that ever served its pretty cool that Greenspud555 knew randy i would give my left nut to meet both of them (not kidding either) those two are my heros
I didn't know him personally, I was too young. My uncle though lived in Newville and knew the Shugharts from some activity or another. Knowing my uncle it was probably hunting.
My family was devistaed when we found out we lost Randy, my two cuzzins were very young at the time, later on the momorial day my grandpa Herb woulden't Shake Bill Clintons hand because we all knew he was a horiable president, he lied and the family says hes the worst. And yes, im from Pennsylavania
On that very day in Somalia 1993 i hold my hand on my heart in a tribute and honour to those who fought bravely and died trying, Especially those to Delta Snipers as a rescue team they were mighty strong they had that power to keep on going til this very day, very hour, very minute i shall not forget them
I was in the Army around the time this happened so the movie hit me pretty hard. I wasn't involved in what went down, but still....it hurt like hell to hear what had happened.

It was during the chess game, the day before the raid took place. It's where Gordy tells Shughart that his(Gordy's) queen was laying in wait.
