I also don't see how they can muster so many legions if the original CSMs are mostly dead. From what I can see they have trouble replenishing their numbers. It doesn't look like they really bother with retrieving gene seeds lol.

Also they're fighting like Orks. I mean at the very least they should be able to fight better than actual fodder.

1. They replenish their numbers with SM who have gone heretic or make new ones with their own gene seed.

2. While CSM do have more "augments" (mostly mutations), Space marines have a wider array of equipment and access to some stuff that CSM simply do not have because the Dark Mechanicum is not as massive as Mechanicum of Mars.

I've watched the movie. And I was unimpressed really.

SM are considered the elites to the Imperium. So would not CSM which are very comparable to SM also be considered as Elites?

I understand it was suppose to be a diversion but the way they fought was just so poor that wouldn't the SM know something fishy was up if it was that easy? Rather they suspected nothing from the battle and it seems that's just how poorly CSM fight. It just looked like the stormtrooper effect.

@AstrayChronicle For what you said I understood that you meant that they were elite in comparison to SM. What you said now is correct. In the end only 4 space marines survived, and this was only because captain severus (who was deamon in disguise) helped them. It was all organized so that the SM would get on the ship and suspect nothing of Severus (the daemon), whose plan was to get to Macragge, and open a rift in the warp next to it.

Yes but I'm just saying that the exchange of 3-4 SMs for dozens of CSMs seems very poor when they technically had the same weaponry, armour and alterations.

They were out numbered so badly yet they took no losses for a significant period of time. It just surprises me that no SM caught on about how badly CSMs were fighting unless this is how CSMs always fight. At this exchange CSMs are no where as deadly as they are described. In the game the stats are basically the same.

@AstrayChronicle This is the Black Legion. They heavily favor close combat. And the SMs took a position different from what CSM expected they would take. Carnak suggested they take the higher ground, but Proteus said that that is probably where the Chaos is herding them, so they stood their ground and slowly retreated to the higher ground as the Black Legion kept coming. Afterward only two Ultramarines and two Imperials Fists were left. They were instrumental to the daemons plan.

some marines survived because they became entrapped in the warp where there is no time and a couple of leaders are left from that time, like abaddon the despoiler,lucius the unkillable, typhus etc etc

most of the other leaders became deamon prince,s or failing so became slithering withering mutated beings.

I like warhammer don't get me wrong but the film was average.

They didn't have enough funding and people are constantly bashing on the animation. And the voice actors are veterans! Names such as Terence Stamp, Sean Pertwee and of course the amazing talents of John Hurt! As for the plot ... It was well hidden what was going on throughout the first half of the movie, and some might find it boring, but I found it intriguing.

I suppose for me i thought the little scan on the planet would be the opening part of the film so i was disappointed when it turned out to be the whole film. I was always expecting something a little more or expecting the real story to be revealed any minute.

@MastuTHEIF WH40K Flamers aren't just Flamethrowers. They cover the person in a napalm like substance that sticks to the target indefinitely and melts through like strong acid. "Prometheum" the made-up fuel for the weapons also burns at FAR higher degrees than real world fuel sources. The lore make its clear that the weapons have been made to take into account the use of thick armors in the future, even if it doesn't penetrate at the joints their armor would be so hot they'd cook on the inside.

My main point is, that the scnece is a bit over-shot when it comes to chaos space marines. As a former csm player, I'd like to see loyal marines to fall in (almost) equal fire fight.

@RobLucci3 if you look at the CSM's they are mostly double melee sword/axe welding and the odd double pistol. ofcourse no csm unit is noted for its high skill with range weapons.. the movie played up to the ultramarines though lol.. course im jaded i play blood angel and imperial fist on the table :P
