jay leaving the band was the best thing that ever happened. they picked up nels and pat sansone and have their most talented live lineup they've ever had.
jay was obviously a pain for everyone to work with, like that annoying hippie who has to have everyone's attention. i don't understand how some fans miss his influence on the band.
Wilco fans miss Jay because Jay brought so many brilliant hooks and breakthrough musical ideas to the band. While I agree that Nels and Pat are both better musicians (especially live) neither of them have had the profound impact on the songwriting that Jay Bennett had. He was clearly difficult to work with, but that doesn't discount the friendships or the art that came from his time with Wilco. RIP Jay.

at first i was very taken with wilco and tweedy. but as of late i see him more as an arrogant cunt (interviews, his solo tour vid). i havent appreciated anything theyve done much after yhft. maybe my taste has changed or maybe its them, idk. but everyone should check out his interview on NPR and the acoustic version he plays on it, excellent.

@breid33 the point is that he didn´t left the band , he died. You can´t say that this is the best thing.

Where did they get the idea for this song, listening to a Time-Life Sounds of the Sixties infomercial? Or knitting socks?

Makes me sad, miss Jay. Wilco was never really the same without him.

This phone conversation with his girlfriend made me smile because I have so been there before. I think it's very relevant to the song.

Yeah, he is known for being quite the arrogant guy. I too like the music but get very upset at the spirit of the composer. Different strokes...

from this period on jeffs voice sounds so much better than the way he sang on earlier wilco stuff
the band itself is also much tighter and the songs are better as wilcos sound became more experimental-- this has got to be my new favorite band...
