I hope you do put the tutorial back up. I'd really like to see what depth you add to the tutorial by having that long a time on one tune. I'm a harmonica player, but I'm guessing you can teach me a thing or two about particular tunes.
got the tutorial. With this kind of instruction thoughout my formative years, I would be so much better than I currently am-such practical stuff & your teaching style is great! I have learned alot from your videos over the last few years & having a longer session with you was awesome. I spent a lot of time with your Misty tutorials last year & learned a ton. I would like to see you start with the lead sheet and talk about your approach from the very beginning. Please keep them coming!
I watch to all your videos... Every day I listen to at least one of your versions... You are one of my best sources of inspiration. I hope I can play like you one day... And If I don't get there, I'll be happy anyway, cause You'll keep inspiring me...
You're special, dude... One of those persons who make the world a little better, cause you've got a rare talent: to inspire people.
As bluesy as anything I've ever heard; 01:00 to 03:00 just had me transfixed. Ultra cool yet intimate and emotive. Magical playing. Now off to buy the tutorial.......5*
Fantastic Tom, Took about 2.3 seconds to go to the order up page... If you are trying to gauge interest believe me I and many others will be interested in this approach...
Thank you so much from someone trying to get to the next level...
Tom, I just bought your tutorial on this one and I can't express how helpful it is. That's the kind of tutorial I have been waiting for. I'd say it can't get any better :-)
I've been following your work for a long time now and it's people like you, Roger or Dough McKenzie and Volvoxbuger that got me into starting Jazz Piano.
Thanks, funckyclubber. I'm trying different formats in order to figure out the most effective way to share these concepts. I liked not having to worry about time limits and just talking it through at a more comfortable pace.
This is one of the rare moments when no words can change the essence of beauty and also when I don't know what to say but feel that something MUST be said...
Thank you for sharing
(P.S That brilliant, sparkling ornaments in which the main theme is dissolved, softened - absolutely amazing!)
Thank you, so much nethyphenvordotnet I was going for an ultra-laid back feel. I didn't know if it would be perceived as a little too relaxed, so I appreciate the comment.

Wow, amazing playing! I'm going to download the video. That's also the nicest Steinway B I've ever heard. Is it a Hamburg or NY Steinway?

thanks gravicembalo. It's a 1997 New York B

You've done a great (technical) job of recording your piano. How did you mic your Steinway? What mics are you using?
rogerdsmith 2 years ago
Thanks, I use a pair of B&K 4006's

Me encanta cuando un blues se toca con alma de verdad.
Gracias, personas como tú hacen que uno siga amando el piano y tocando con estos referentes.

This is a great song on which to stretch your great blues/gospel chops, Tom, and we could all learn so much from your playing here.

There's a lot of blues going on in this video - and I don't mean the pants and shirt. ;-)
Sensitive, wistful, brash at times, and most of all played with feeling and demonstrating the truest form of art as self-expression.
Bravo Maestro 7notemode, another masterpiece.

This is a great tune. First time I heard it was by the Modern Jazz Quartet, and I said "Oh, almost blues". Thanks!
