I think Doyle is a genius. He fits in perfectly. Clapton and Trucks both play very high pitched melodic bluesy solos. Bramhall compliments that with a grungy, distorted, minimalist style. If they brought in another player like Trucks or Clapton it would be annoying. There would be too many pretty, fluttering guitars. The band needed some dirt and funk, and thats where Doyle comes in
I saw this concert in Feb 2007 Perth. Dreaded a "middle of the road" Clapton performance circa the 80's & 90's and feared he would play ballads etc. Reluctantly I decided to go because a mate said if Derek Trucks was playing it would be "full on electric". Despite the hot evening it was the best concert I have ever seen. Clapton, was showcasing the next generation and gave hope that music is not yet dead. Clapton Trucks and Bramhall were all brilliant!!!
Doyle always ruins solos (at least for me) i prefer when he's only doing rhythm but other than that Derek and Eric should only be the ones soloing (and Winwood if he's there)
haha no sir i am not, i am strictly a concert goer who understands music and Doyle simply does not fit in with these 2 greats. If you like plain flat old boring unoriginal scales then sure listen to Doyle. But there are many other people who agree that Doyle doesnt fit in with Eric and Derek.
I've been attending EC concerts since 1969, and the setlist for this concert was a dream come true for me. Thanks for posting, unfortunately, my own videos are gone.
Man I love this clip.. It's real short, but oh well... Doyle and Derek the young bucks are great, but EC shows that he still has a trick or two.. his tone cut through
Thanks for this post...I was at the 10/7 show and it was incredible. This vid reminds me even more how incredible these three guitarists are, as well as robert cray; who's opening set was fantastic.
Great Clip, I was there on the side stage so I couldnt get this view,Thanks! What a treat to get 4 of the greatest living guitarists on stage @ the same time!,Was lucky enough to meet Robert Cray after the show and get autographs!
you guys are saying that doyle plays plain flat old boring unoriginal scales and clapton doesn't? :DDD
