I watched two other videos on this way to join & it seemed so complicated. Then I found yours. You made it so clear and easy. I followed along with you & I have joined 3 squares so far.I will continue more tomorrow. Thank you very much for sharing ..You are a wonderful teacher & very much appreciated by me! :)
@mayajayasundara thank you ! iTS FUNNY WHEN I MADE THIS VIDEO I THOUGHT omg THATS SO CONFUSSING ! sO ITS GOOD TO SEE THAT I ACTUALLY MADE SOME KIND OF SENCE :)
This is completely different than the other way's I've seen to join. I love it. I'm fairly new at this and working on my first big project and I love the way this looks. Thank you! (I'm sure I'll be watching again and again and again.)
HI, Love your video. I seem to do my granny squares slightly different though in that I chain 1 in between each group of three trebles and I chain 2 at the corners. Does this mean that I would just adapt your method and still do my chain 1 and then slip stitch into the top square? (I hope I make sense as I am new to crochet)
@cheriestaples1 hi ! yes if you do a chain 1 i would try that when you join and then slip and then do the chain 2 in the corner...maybe just teswt it out on 1 or 2 sqaures and see if t site right. then ajust it if it doest ...if its really tight then add the chains in if its all loose and ruffled then take them out ...hope this helps :)
I'm very glad this join gives a more uniform look on both sides than single crochet, and I'd been looking for something that could give me a windowpane effect as well so this is perfect! Thanks so much, I'll have to check out your other videos.
This video is amazing. I have been trying to find someone who joins granny squares like my mother did on her afghans. Thank you so much ! The final look is beautiful with no ridges!!
Hi. This video is great. I just have one question. The squares I have for the blanket are edged with double crochet, no chains or trebles. Should all of the work I do to crochet around and join the squares mimic those stitches? Thanks so much. Michelle
@66MichelleW Hi Michelle, Yes i would use this joining method if you have already got Dc around it...I would Single crochet or sew them ones together :)
thank you so much now i know how to join granny squares i started a year ago i never know how to join them together. Your video are really helpful thanks a lot.
@1crochet Tthank you for your wonderful feedback. It makes me happy that people enjoy my video's. I myself when i first started to crochet couln't understand how to read a pattern and could only learn by someone showing me
Thank you so very much for taking the time to post this lesson and share your knowledge. Your instructions are very easy to follow. I made a beautiful granny square afghan for my daughter and used your method for joining. Now I'm working on one for my mother-in-law for Christmas and had to come back for a refresher course. ;) Thanks again. I think my next project will be your string market tote!
@SLH1020 Thankyou, i am so glad that you liked the video. I haven't used this joining method for a while and i will have to take my own refresher too !!!! Happy Crochet !
your video is excellet, however im still a beginner at this whole thing and I am not really sure how you actually start the corner on the very first square that you do. After that your tutorial is wonderful =)
@bobwilson123 yes but i dont know how to start it, for example do you chain and then start double crochet or i guess really my question is how do you get it attached at the beginning.
@bobwilson123 yes that makes sense but i dont know how to actually start that color (yellow) like do u chain a certain amount then start working the corner, or i guess how do you get it attched in the corner?
@ballerinababe45 ahh now im with you, yes when you join the yellow you join it .. there will be a video on you tube on how to change colors with a granny square.. then you chain up 3 and work a corner... which is usually chain 3, 2 dc, chain and then 3 dc all in the same space .. did that help you ?
Thanks for your Video's..Granny Squares Part 1 & 2. I have 81 (x8) squares that I have completed (of and on) over a 25 year period and have not, until now, known the best way to put them together. Wow each square I join brings back memories!
Can you make a suggestion as to what might be the best boarder to go right around the finished assembled blanket to help "finish it off"? Regards
@Tanny1958 That is so excellent that you have all those granny squares and yes all the memories.. ahh the good old days:)
Border - depends on what type of look you want and your skill level. There are shell borders.. or just plain DC borders.... When i make this afghan i usually so a round of double crochet and then i do the granny stitch (group of 3 double crochets)
Let me know how you go and thanks for your comment :)
@Tanny1958 Thanks for your suggestion.Skill level I am not too bad . Was taught by a old transylvanian grandmother years ago. When you say a round of double crochet... what do you double crochet into?
Are you saying put the hook between the individual double crochets making up the 3 double crochets granny stitch and then 1 into space between the granny stitches?
Then the next/last round,do your granny stitch (3 doubles) between each or say every 2 or 3 doubles? Thanks again Tania
@Tanny1958 I sorry i just saw your comment ! yes into each stitch around .. this includes the 3 stitches of the groups of 3 and then in to the space between the groups. And yes the got the next row correct
Hey there, bobwilson123! I just wanted to let you know that I was originally NicklesPickles87, but I haven't been on YT for a while, and then forgot the password, so I had to make a new account. I'm still working on the g-square afghan, and it seems to be coming out pretty well, considering it's my first of that kind. I read your comment back, and thanks for the help. I will make sure I let you know how it turns out. Happy Easter! :)
Hello again, I posted my thanks for part 1 - was a little frazzled at the end of the 1st video until I realized that there was a part 2. I am going to recommend your video to all my crochete friends JOB WELL DONE Thanks!
First of all, I have to say WOW! That's a great joining method! But, I do have 2 questions for you. On the square itself, do you have a ch2 space, and does it matter how many rounds the squaure is itself? I am making an afghan with approx, 64 6-round squares. When I start with my join color, should I just do a ch1 in the corners, or still do the ch2? Would I have to do a ch1 before and after in the corners when joining? Thanks!!
-chain2 space ? in the corner ? i have a chain 1 space.but if u find when u do the corner when you join is puckering up and wont lay flay maybe u could try putting 2 chain in the corner when u join ?
yes i would recomend what u said 'do a ch1 before and after in the corners when joining' that way it will be even
-no it doesnt matter how many rounds each square has .u just crochet along the edge untill you get to the corner
Hi! I finished my squares and started to join them, won't tell you what it looked like, so left it behind. I am sooooooooooo glad I found you. Your tutorial made me finally figure out how to assemble the squares.
Thanks so so much for posting it. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos to help us get started on our projects.
Thanks.. I tried to be a big girl. and started connecting and messed it up bad.. But I had the extra roll of double and joining same color.. through me off. going to use differant color and join and follow your steps better.. can't wait to get it done.. Thanks.. McRosy
yes I would recomend using a different colour for the joining it makes it easier to keep a track of where you are up to ...also make a lovley contrast to the rest of the blanket :)
Thank you so much for this video. I don't care for the rig that is left when joing squares the normal way. I love this.... thanks so much.. can't wait to get all my squares together..
My pleaseure to share this with you ! Glad you like it. It does take a little getting used to but once you master it its easy :) Good luck and happy crochet !
