  • happy winter solstice.

  • personally, 1) Whatever is not FOR God is AGAINST God.

There was no grey area when this was said, it is cut and dried.

    2) Have NOTHING to do with even the APPEARANCE of evil.

    'nuff said.

There is nothing permissable according to these two scriptures.

I would consider the "harvest festival" just as much sin as halloween, no more no less.

Until my daughter is old enough to do things on her own, I take a stand against such things and teach her to do the same when it comes to things like this.

  • Looks like someone doesn't know where Christmas came from - uh oh! Might want to check that out, Chris.

  • Why would you assume I don't know?

  • Because you're completely ignoring the fact that Christmas is a pagan holiday, bastardized by the church to fit Christianity. Therefore, you shouldn't celebrate Christmas.

  • hahaha - I've paid enough attention to that for a lifetime - the Holy Spirit has led me to a different understanding my friend.

  • i really pity your children. They will hold your abuse against you when they are grown.

  • Crosis - no offense - but you haven't got a clue about what you're talking about... you don't know my kids or their positions or how we function as a family unit - I do not force my convictions on my kids - and the best part about that is they can see for themselves just how screwed up things are - and that fosters respect if nothing else.

  • If you dont think your kids queue off of you then you are naive and have no buisness having kids. Your anti-halloween feelings do indeed impact them and rob them of innocent fun enjoyed by everyone around them. They will grow up feeling as if they missed a giant part of theitr youth and they will blane you.

  • Maybe you missed something here - but my kids celebrate Halloween any way they want - (within reason - no drugs - booze - etc) regardless of my opinion... they haven't missed out on a single candy corn or snickers bar - but they are also aware of all sides of the argument - and its their choice - between them and Jesus - and I believe over time - they will mature to a like position - if not - its ok - because its in the hands of God...

  • Listening to some of this really makes me weep for the intelligence of Western people. All the talk about 'why are teenagers having sex at all.' Kids rebel and are under a great deal of adult pressures these days. I don't condone the teenagers having sex, and I do my best to teach my kids morality, but I cant control everything they do, nor the things their hormones make them do. Not educating children about contraception is naive and endangers them with worse things than your condemnation.

  • howling - wow - you hit it right on the head - it must be my stupidity is because I'm western... I agree - we do our best to teach our kids morality, but we cant control everything they do, nor the things their hormones make them do - BUT - we set the stage for the concert that is playing in their lives all too often. I got that from some one on the east side... of town that is... lol

  • I'll admit, that's an interesting phrase. We do set the stage. And if we set the stage with judgement and condemnation, instead of education, our children will make mistakes, that could condemn them to life with HIV, teen pregnancy, and many other issues. Teaching our children about condoms and other contraception isnt telling them sex is okay, it is acknowledging that it is likely that they will be exposed to a situation they should be prepared for, so they don't destroy their futures.

  • blaming "pressures" and saying "my hormones made me do it" or saying "everyone else is doing it, as long as I'm safe its ok", is to me, rather weak excuse though. Since when did complacency become acceptable to God?

  • suppose that if you can't condone a harvest festival, then I suppose you dont support Thanksgiving? CHristmas is a pagan holiday, co opted from the Roman holiday celebrating the metaphorical birth of Sol Invictus, and referred to as Solstice. Also Yule in some context. What is not for god is against god? Then I suppose rememberance day is against god as it isnt For God either.

That being said, she is your daughter and it is not for anyone else to tell you how to raise her or educate her.

  • I think we should celebrate "Reformation Day" It is October 31st. Let's remember our Protestant Christian History

  • Most holidays we celebrate have true origins in Paganism, that predate even Judaism. Even 'Christmas.' Halloween is just another seasonal holiday. 'Religious holiday' is such a misnomer. Halloween, Christmas, Easter, are all Christian usurped seasonal celebrations. Halloween is simply the celebration of the end of Autumn and the transition into Winter. It was the Early Church in its attempt to scare the masses into following their faith that made it about evil.

  • howling - you don't think it might be the legends of the druids - or other 'pagan' origins that make a Christian believe Halloween is evil?

  • Considering christians seem to categorize anything non christian as Evil its entirely likely that they do. Druids are not nor were they Evil. Categorizing them as such led to Christian armies converting the Celtic peoples at the point of a sword. Hell, the early Christians(read Catholic) even used local pagan legends to spread fear of Satan. First, Satan means adversary, not evil. Lucifer was not a horned ugly monster, he was a beautiful angel. Usurped Pagan legends created those images.

  • Everything not of Christ would be of... the... world? and therefore - because its of the world - its considered... evil? yes... thats about right.

  • That seems to be what the general consensus is amongst christians I have talked to. Hell there are many that believe that all you need to be a good person is to be 'christian' Dont matter if you dont do anything good in your life, and if you do good, and dont worship christ, then you are still Evil. Sounds kind of hypocritical. Deeds determine the morality of a man, not words. Halloween is good fun for kids, and why take away what little innocent fun they have left these days.

  • Continue in prayer and reading the scriptures. Do not neglect it. For It is your spiritual nourishment. If you can't read it. Download it on an Mp3 player or Cd.

  • your sort of a prick, halloween isn't a pagan ritual, not anymore,

where are you coming from, your not following the bible, your overweight, you are a glutton one of the seven deadly sins, where as being in the apearance of evil, is barely an after thought. However i do agree that alot of these churches are being hypictical as far as halloween goes.

  • Slandering doesn't help your point Nibus.

Either way, it WAS a pagan ritual... that's its roots.

Just as simple as many modern day churches follow pagan practices and ideals they've adopted from Greco-Roman times(all the way down to pews and pulpits)... they're still at their roots--wrong.

  • Actually.......it still is pagan.......it is a religious holiday for Wiccans and many pagan groups. I've known Wiccans who are upset Christians are celebrating their holiday.

  • Also, I feel that "giving kids a clear message" is actually a far more confusing thing to do, because there are many things that ARE unclear. Our stances on sex and drug abuse are among them.

For example, we permit the use of pain-killers —which are addictive — to dull pain, but we say that a teen who's parents are going through a divorce should not use marijuana to the same effect.

The "clear message" approach is well meaning, but invariably lacks empathy for the human condition.

  • What's wrong with a pagan holiday?

Don't get me wrong, I understand where you're coming from as a christian, but you share a country with people of many religions, and holidays originating from other religions sort of come with the package.

I personally feel that, considering that we live in such a multi-cultural country, it's probably a good idea to get used to enjoying things without agreeing with them.

  • Nice video man. I do disagree. I believe that we dont need to be so cut and dry when it comes to things like Halloween. I think verses like "Abstain from the appearance of evil" mean alot more than you think. Among other things Halloween is views as a time of fun by everyone and not a time of evil. Thanks.

  • Aero - you may be right! GBU

  • I agree, I don't think a follower should particpate with the heather, but what is worse is the COMPROMISE the organized church does with it's harvest festivals to keep the woman/children happy. They are experts at compromise. Now the childern of beleivers are heathens so they should be able to chose to do halloween.

  • Pfsif - exactly - and thats the main thought I wanted to share in the vid. GBU

  • "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil." [Prov. 3:5-7]

  • "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body." [1 Cor. 6:12]

  • its true, I see it on my own friends list, christian friends. I'd speak out against it with them, but they would never hear, I'm afraid :(

  • Brother Chris! I must say for the 1st time ever, I humbly disagree with you on this particular issue. I as you very well know am Christian. I happen to find Halloween or Harvest to be very fun. I don't see anything wrong with it in scripture or any where else. I also don't see how the sex issue can even be put anywhere near the issue of celebrating Halloween! I get it! Sin is sin! But I don't see how honouring the Dead is sinful. Unless of course you honor bad people that has died!

  • Dvader - thats cool - I don't mind people disagreeing on this... could just be me - but it just seems like most of us have been thoroughly conditioned to embrace this holiday for all the wrong reasons... I could be wrong...

  • LOL! You know, I can't help but want to carve pumpkins with my nieces and nephews this time of year. I love dressing as Darth Vader and Boba Fett every other year! Last year, My buddy and I went as "The Blues Brothers". And let me tell ya! "We were on a mission from God" lol!

Anyway, I have to respectfully take in the opinions of my congregation, and Chris I most definitely Consider you a part of my Congregation. "When 2 or 3 come in his name, There he is"! HJD Brother!

  • Here is the problem as I see it. If kids dressed up on January 2 every year and knocked on doors for candy and it was called Dress Up Candy Day...no one would care.

Problem is that the origins of this day are evil or pagan influenced. I am sure most people don't even think about condoning evil by participating but therein lies the debate.

  • Who says Halloween is evil? I suppose if you going out doing evil things, then yes, I would agree. I think we Christians sometimes take action and form opinions on things out of fear because of things we don't quite understand. So it's a pagan Holiday! so what! Enjoy it! I don't think The Lord is going to Smite you for enjoying halloween!

  • You essentially make my point here. The act of dressing up and getting candy is NOT evil. The origins of the holiday however are and that is why this is a difficult subject for Christians.

Quote from wikipedia: "Halloween imagery tends to involve death, evil, the occult, magic, or mythical monsters."

  • Ahh! I gotcha! You know, Celebrating a Pagan Holiday or 2 hasn't ever had an impact on my faith in any way whatsoever. I think that we can celebrate the harvest and Honour the Dead at the same time. I for one am Glad I'm a Christian on Halloween! No Dark forces are gonna touch me! Let 'em try! LOL!

  • I dunno - I don't see it as a celebration for the dead - I see it as a commercial excess driven by fictional characters that people desire to be like (at least once a year) and I believe the fact that it falls on a big pagan holiday is no coincidence...

  • very interesting I appreciate your perspective.

I do know of churches that witness this time of year, and yeah, the ones who do the bible character deal.

This vid is surely thought provoking.

    God bless bro :)

  • VANITY FAIR...otherwise known as MYSTERY BABYLON is chock full of this wickedness. This is why we must COME OUT of this stuff and separate ourselves from The Harlot CHURCH SYSTEM!! If we don't come away from all of it then we will be seduced into the rest of it! This idea that Paul was inferring "EVERYTHING IS PERMISSIBLE" is totally taking things out of context! In this line of thinking I should be able to attend cultic ritual/sacrifices without the threat of offending Christ?

  • Bro563 - Out of context? Paul was essentially telling us the only thing that we had to worry about was offending our brother, so long as our activities weren't sins unto themselves. As for coming away with the wrong idea - anyone who does that isn't of the Holy Spirit.

  • Just to clear it up.....HALLOWEEN is "a sin unto itself" and is not of God and whoever participates in these pagan celebrations are Sure to reap their due rewards, who's end will be according to their works!

  • Bro - I don't disagree about Halloween as a pagan festival - but I am not sure of it as a secular adaptation - never-the-less, its is my hope that we abandon it all together, as I can't find anything good about it. In this case - I would be the brother 'offended by meat sacrificed to idols' if we were to relate it to that sequence in scripture. Of course - the churches don't seem to care if anyone is offended... so long as they get a large number to show up for the activities.

  • I remember how when I was in church and we had this huge party that rivaled that of anything in town. I was concerned deeply about it and when I confronted the pastor he said, well..we just want to give the kids a safe place to get in off the streets" I then pressed him about how we should not be doing this, in which he flippantly replied...if you don't like it you can leave! It wasn't long after that I was on my way. It was obvious where this mans heart was.

  • I don't mean to go on a doctrine hunt here, but I have issues with Paul telling people its ok to eat things sacrificed to Idols, knowing just how severe God dealt with Israel concerning Idols. I suppose I could be wrong here but, in Acts 15:29 the counsel in Jerusalem said it was good from the Holy Ghost that they teach to abstain from meats sacrificed to Idols? Maybe you some insight here? Anyway, I would most likely just about starve before I would eat food sacrificed to idols!

  • Brother - I don't have any problems with what Paul taught as he explained what he taught. I think its a matter of recognizing idols are powerless - thus a sacrifice to them is powerless... on the other hand - I wouldn't want to eat meat sacrificed to idols either - it just sounds - icky.

  • Wow dude, that is so dangerous to do. If your gonna do vids while you drive sit the camera on your dash or something. Dont want ya to get hurt mate.

But yea, another fun Pagan holiday just like Christmas and Easter. Fun stuff

  • red - actually - it isn't - I hold a flip cam with my thumb (about 1/4" thick) to the wheel as I drive - and it really doesn't change a thing... :) so long as I don't try messing with it as I drive... lol

  • Chris. what you said about halloween is right. It's really nothing but an ancient pagan holiday.. but they just call it something else..

But.. You have to notice that the same goes for all the other holidays, ie. mainly Christmas and Easter, thanksgiving.. There's always an ancient pagan holiday associated with these days.

This is what happened in the early days of the Roman Catholic church and the Emperor Constantine. They intermixed pagan beliefs in christianity so that pagans could come in

  • and be part of the church.. not needing to abandon their worship days.. It was very convinient trick and we shouldn't be ignorant of that, it's one of satan's devices, to make us worship him on these days..

And notice that there is ALWAYS a symbolical sacrifice of animals associated with these days.. Take thanksgiving for instance: How many turkeys are going to die?? Many..

Dr Scott Johnson has done many expose's of these days and I advice everyone here to look into it..

    Blessings.

  • I am fully aware of pagan roots of most holidays - but not thanksgiving. Thanksgiving was created to commemorate the feast between early settlers and Indian natives... how is it pagan?

  • The Native Americans had celebrations of bountiful harvests. This was their thanksgiving but as Pagan Europeans immigrated, they brought their customs of harvest festivals, while slaughtering all the natives..

Why do you think there's not many native americans who don't like to celebrate on thanksgiving?

Maybe it was because millions of their ancestors were slaughtered on that day..

    What should they thank for...

  • On the contrary, while most people celebrate the thanksgiving, the native Americans have their "National Day of Mourning"

Indeed the First Declaration of Thanksgiving in 1676 was to celebrate and thank God for the victory over the indian tribes.. These people were pagan Europeans... and the holiday they set up is pagan also..

  • The thanksgiving is really equivalent to ancient worshipping of fertility and harvest God's like the Romans worhipping Ceres and having the feast of Ambarvalia. Or the Greeks worshipping Demeter and having the celebration of Thesmophoria.

Or the Canaanites worshipping Baal. They worshipped and sacrificed to these God's to ensure that they would get a good crop, and rain and whatever. And when it comes to baal or Tamus we are even talking about chlid sacrifices..

  • this year i'm going to a haunted house and carve a pumpkin, and i'm going to make roasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin soup with the pulp~

i'm probably going to be a 20's flapper girl on hallow's eve night~

  • Skar - good luck with all that -

  • thanks bro i hope you have a great halloween - try to enjoy it and remember that halloween is just a wordly holiday that's used for marketing to stupid people like me n____n

god bless i wuv your videos~

  • Happy Hell o ween.. Sorry couldn't resist.

  • what Christians worry about amuses me

  • Cowpacino, Halloween is the day of the year with most child sacrifices around the world. Just some info....

  • Really? That's amazing! Where on Earth did you hear that? Because my guess would be that you just made that up.l

  • Ask any witch and they will tell you..

That what used to happen was that witches went from door to door (well propably they just singled someone out) asking for a human sacrifice.. If the person would give a sacrifice then fine..

If not.. then he would get cursed.. The withces would paint a hexagram (you know the symbol in israeli flag) in the door of the house.. (Hex is by the way latin and means to curse)

Dr. Scott Johnson has done many expose's of these pagan days.

    Look them up'!!

  • you have to be joking

  • I wish I was, but there's really no time nor need for that.

  • HEX

    Etymology 1

From Pennsylvania German hexe (to practise witchcraft), from German hexen (to hex). Noun appears later, in the early twentieth century. Compare German Hexe (witch).

so hex, the way you mean it, isn't Latin and doesn't mean "curse" It's Pennsylvania Dutch, and means "witch" or, "to practice witchcraft"

    Fail

  • Okay I give you that. I remembered it was latin.. but nevertheless if we go by wikipedia definitions.. you can see in wiktionary that one of the meanings of the word hex.. is also curse..

So I'm not totally off there.

  • and are you talking about the same Dr. Scott Johnson who held a Harry Potter book burning and thinks your television is tracking you and can tell the government where you are.

  • Jesus would be out and about telling people how His sacrifice reconciled all mankind back to God, not based on our efforts but His love and plan for the human race.

And he would also be going door to door treating "sinners" with love, mercy, kindness... just like He was doing when the self-righteous religious folks criticized Him for hanging out with the sinners (Gentiles in context) and tax collectors (seen as traitors - in context).

Maybe I can dress up like a hell-fire preacher. hehe

  • I admit I like Halloween for the tricks, soaping windows, etc.

  • Im going to dress as a women on halloween.

  • Agree. Plus, Halloween has obvious pagan roots!

  • Look Halloween has been given a bad rep by many people..Then again it has been secularized by culture. However there is also a spiritual festival going on this time called Samhain which is the New Year, the Honoring of our ancestors and a time of death and renewal.

  • Word.
