we lived in gateway gardens. it brings tears to my eyes with all the memories coming back. i was an air force brat back then. my dad was a loadmaster. had great friends. miss that A.Y.A., man good times. remember, always remember. my last name is Borges if it ever rings a bell.
Nice video. I was there in the mid-80s when all the stuff from the '70s was still there. Probably not half the base it was back then from the looks of it. Did the Germans take down "The Gateway to Europe" sign? There was a spot on the base back in '86 where the Red Army Faction detonated a car bomb...
Very cool man; I lived there Oct '89 to Oct '92. Bush/Gulf 1; Wall comes down; Wife loses baby/severe deformity; GW1 ends; Psycho Dean Melberg slaughters 7 at Fairchild AFB, 92nd General Hospital, my previous assignment; also, around this time, a B-52 nose-dives on camera at the survival school at Fairchild. Loved Frankfurt and its history. Amazing how they preserved as much as they did considering the horrible destruction by Allies.
I lost all my vids man! Thank you very much for posting this.
Wow. That is interesting. I work on those grounds now. It is called Cargo City South. On google there are still the old pictures. Thanks for sharing. Greets from Frankfurt! Enjoy1972@hotmail.com

I remember being there in 1986. I was stationed at Gibbs Kaserne but would go over to the air base from time to time. I was military police.

@Michaelffm30 Danke, nicht so viele Videos von Rhein Main Air Base existieren, und das ist traurig, weil es eine Legende in der Geschichte USAF war.

Google Maps is luckily not updated so you can see more of the former base.
