I love how there's a thrash metal conversation in the comments of a David Lee Roth video... Paul Baloff would stab all of us for even mentioning them around "Gay LA Music" like Diamond Dave
This is one of the toughest song that a bassist can play...I think Billy was even faster in that song than the great Steve Harris...Unbelievable!!! Sheer !!
@CBHBIB ......I find this comment about Charlie interesting being that Gregg is my favorite drummer for 25 years and is a friend. I have NEVER heard this about Charlie .................So I called Gregg a little while ago. He said he played on this entire cd, not Charlie...............where did you hear this info??............Also you said Charlie played on Elephant Gun...............On youtube put in Elephant Gun Rare Studio........In the count off of the song it is definatelly Gregg's voice.
Hey, very nice to know you and Gregg are friends!!!
Onto Charlie's info... I've been looking up on the internet and some sites state that Charlie Benante plays on this track, Elephant Gun, and Goin' Crazy apparently.
But hey, if you're really Gregg's friend I'm gonna have to believe you!
@ShinOnigashima ......It's all good....I was just surprised that I would have not heard that over the years...............and i didn't ever remember Charlies name anywhere on the cd credits.....but I figured, Well...........anythings possible...It stated it on Wikipedia also(which is never always accurate)......Gregg asked my wife how to change that, so she will be fixing it ASAP.
@mikeybbdrummin Yeah i just looked up the cd on wikepedia cause i wanted to buy it (which i just did),and it said Charlie Benante plays drums on this Elephant gun,and Goin crazy,so i went back and listened and i thought well this song does sound like Charlie's signature double bass drumming so i thought it was correct, but yeah i believe you too,if you really know Greg Bissonette!!!!
@CBHBIB ........Yes I really know Gregg.............That signature double bass drumming was popular in the 80's...............check out Alex Van Halen on Im the One ;VH 1, Loss of Control; Woman and Children First, Hang em High and The Full Bug; Diver Down and of course Hot For Teacher..........................Also Gregg on Bottom Line from Skyscraper and on ShowTime from A Little Aint Enough............................anyway........I fixed the Wikipedia for Gregg...............Sorry Charlie!!
@mikeybbdrummin Yeah ive heard all Van Halen's songs cause i have all their albums, but what i meant by signature is that it just really sounded like Charlie, and yeah double bassing was popular in almost all genres of 80's metal, but yeah i saw that wikepedia change today haha,i wonder where the person who put that in the first place got their info? Oh well this album kicks ass,i got it yesterday!!!!
@CBHBIB ......What I like about Gregg on this CD is that Shyboy is a very straight double bass groove................and Elephant Gun is a shuffle double bass groove.............very different feels.........and on the Cd Billys solo in E.Gun and Steves solos in Ladies Night in Buffalo and Big Trouble are the best on the cd IMO......In Big Trouble the little drum break w/the fills, Gregg taught me that part at one of my lessons w/him........also the ending fill from Bump & Grind....Good Times!!
@CBHBIB ......Yes, lessons from Gregg were great.........he taught me alot.........actually he cover this song at a lesson I did.........I still have the audio tape (yes, tape...it was Oct of 1989)...I'm glad I'm a drummer and not guitarist.............Steve's work would be a challenge to learn to say the least.
@CBHBIB .............................I still have tape's I listen to as well.........80's stuff haha...............I audio taped my lessons w/Gregg...............I have about 6-8 I go back and listen to from time to time.......................on the double bass aspect, one tape he was discussing Billy Cobham (again 1989) and his contribution to DB in the 70's. Then he did his best Billy Cobham impression w/all the ghost notes on the snare and long/quick tom fills............Pretty amazing shit!
@ouluvme2 ..........Gregg is a working machine......always busy.....Saw him in Jan at a local jazz club, Good stuff!.....Gregg is now in Europe on The Ringo Star All Stars Tour.
@rb7magnetico Yeah we figured that out a month ago buddy,i never head of charlie to play out of anthrax and s.o.d. either, but i read that he played on those 3 songs, but i wasnt sure,so yeah my information has just been corrected, thanks!!!!!
@CBHBIB Yeah I found that strange because I pretty much followed Anthrax since the mid eighties and it was never mentioned of Charlie playing in any other band or even doing studio sessions. I do remember STeve Stevens being the original choice before Steve Vai.
@rb7magnetico Yeah im a huge Anthrax fan,and i really like DLR and when i read on wikepedia(yeah i know anyone can put information on there),that Charlie Benante played on 3 songs off this record i was like wow talk about a super group haha, but then i realized that Gregg Bissonette really does play on all the songs on Eat 'Em and Smile, which is cool too
@CBHBIB I ve read and heard about it through the years but never found it. I have found more Overkill demos then Anthrax demos and Anthrax is very hard to find.
@CBHBIB Those are my favorite ANthrax albums...especially FOM, Neil Turbin just kicks ass on all those tracks. At that time there were some good thrash bands in the NYC area. Overkill of course, Nuclear Assault, Whiplash and M.O.D
@rb7magnetico yeah man overkill are awesome, nuclear assault are sweet to(they are dan lilkers band, who was anthraxs old bassist),whiplash should be more famous, but i never really listened to M.O.D.
@CBHBIB Testament is awesome especially the 87-93 catalog.Exodus the same. Slayer is the only one that stayed true to the scene and Megadeth is my favorite, Endgame is another Mustaine masterpiece. Annihilator was raw and awesome. What about Death Angel, Celtic Frost, Voivod, Sacred Reich?
@rb7magnetico Death Angel is a pretty awesome band(I prefer their earlier stuff) and i almost saw them live,Celtic Frost are one of my favorites, even tho they tried to turn glam for a while(thats not the most horruble thing, but celtic frost was to heavey to be glam),Voivod are still kicking ass,Infini was a great album, but i never really listened to Sacred Reich that much, but ill check them out!!!
Oh yeah, you can tell even in the Mr. Big version, the bass is all over the place! And Steve Vai truly owned the song, though I also prefer Paul's owning.
is this the same as the song "Tímido"?
And @MUDSHARK111 , Steve vai plays gitar in this.
