I skipped the other versions of this from 2008 .. even though after YS I was itching for new stuff... just because Joannas songs are sort of hard to get into at first (just beacuse they are so long.. I have no problem 'getting into them'.. but at the quality of the other videos....) and because of the quality. Had found this one.. I would have got into it.
This song seems to not change much so its also possible I played the first few minutes not knowing how awesome it gets.
I wonder if this was one of the first songs she wrote for the new album. It's the oldest one I remember. In fact, .. I totally forgot about it. I mean, the second someone would have mentioned it I would have been like "oh yeah!" but.. I didn't even think of it when I saw "ribbon bows" on the new album.
Even when I started to listening to it.. I didn't make the connection. It wasn't until just right now .. I wish I would have found this version originally. I skipped the others back then
No, I actually love a lot of avant music like guru guru, can, oliva tremor control, brian eno, silver apples, popol vuh, yknow good shit.
Ignorant wouldn't be the word. For some reason, I imagine the chick named kitty belle is probably not the wisest/brightest in the world. What's in a name? Plenty.
I'm glad to know Karen Dalton likes Billie Holiday.
Everyone "sounds like" someone who came before. Don't get your feathers all ruffled. Joanna takes Dalton's sound a step further and many octives higher. Newsom's song construction is much more complicated and her lyrics much more poetic ( almost to the point of being pretentious what with all the obscure literary references ).
I think that person was just trying to reference something that Joanna has said in interviews--that she was influenced and inspired by Karen Dalton. Also, in the lyrics of this song Joanna makes reference to singing the Karen Dalton song, Ribbon Bows...
I sent you a message but I'm not sure if you got it... I'm just wondering if you still have the other new song that has yet to uploaded? It appears that you're the only one who has a copy! I've seen it nowhere else.
Thanks! And thanks for uploading Baby Birch and Ribbon Bows. Much love!
It was a lovely gig, one of the best I've ever been to... but I think her gig at the Royal Albert Hall last year was better, that is the best gig I've ever been to :)
Don't you like it how when you just thought that there is no more inspiring music to discover, something like Joanna happens. It proves that there are still smart, challenging and mesmerizing musicians in the world and we just have to find out about them.
I totally agree with the comment about the clock bell; also the fact that every now and then a bird would swoop across the courtyard and the way the smoke swirled around her and her harp on stage. Little touches that made the entire evening so special.
such an amazing feeling at this gig. I loved the fact that the bell in the big clock kept going off every so often, adding a sweet accompaniment. She is such a good songwriter, she never seems to lack inspiration.
i like her other voice better

It does sound a lot like Kate Bush, but not as good.
It seems like Joanna's voice has improved a lot, though.
