  • i like her other voice better

  • I skipped the other versions of this from 2008 .. even though after YS I was itching for new stuff... just because Joannas songs are sort of hard to get into at first (just beacuse they are so long.. I have no problem 'getting into them'.. but at the quality of the other videos....) and because of the quality. Had found this one.. I would have got into it.

This song seems to not change much so its also possible I played the first few minutes not knowing how awesome it gets.

  • I wonder if this was one of the first songs she wrote for the new album. It's the oldest one I remember. In fact, .. I totally forgot about it. I mean, the second someone would have mentioned it I would have been like "oh yeah!" but.. I didn't even think of it when I saw "ribbon bows" on the new album.

Even when I started to listening to it.. I didn't make the connection. It wasn't until just right now .. I wish I would have found this version originally. I skipped the others back then

  • Oh how I wish, wish, wish the piano version were on the album!!!

  • i was there, feels like yesterday, gonna see her in september, bristol, can't wait!

  • You play piano also. Awesome song and performance!

  • her voice is actually incredible at some points!! beautiful as always xxxxxxxx

  • This is better and will always be better than the studio version.

  • c'mon 23rd Feb 2010.

  • Joanna Awesome.

  • this song and the way she sings it makes me smile:}

  • I don't know who Karen Dalton is but I think Joanna sounds an awful lot like Kate Bush here.

  • you are an ignorant dickhead.

  • Dude, shut the fuck up.

  • You know nothing.

  • oops i meant to rate this as a 5 but i accidentally pressed 4 ): sorry! awesome video and song!

  • Wow so pure...

  • when her voice leaps at :55, my heart does too :p

  • I'm glad to know she likes Karen Dalton. You should listen to her song Ribbon Bow.

  • I'm glad to know Karen Dalton likes Billie Holiday.

Everyone "sounds like" someone who came before. Don't get your feathers all ruffled. Joanna takes Dalton's sound a step further and many octives higher. Newsom's song construction is much more complicated and her lyrics much more poetic ( almost to the point of being pretentious what with all the obscure literary references ).

  • I think that person was just trying to reference something that Joanna has said in interviews--that she was influenced and inspired by Karen Dalton. Also, in the lyrics of this song Joanna makes reference to singing the Karen Dalton song, Ribbon Bows...

  • thank you.

  • She kows all and sees all.

  • I've said it before and I'll damn well say it again. Joanna Awesome.

  • super thumbs up

  • oh yes! damn right.

  • I like it, when she pulls so funny faces while singing :D

    Her voice is so unique.

  • I sent you a message but I'm not sure if you got it... I'm just wondering if you still have the other new song that has yet to uploaded? It appears that you're the only one who has a copy! I've seen it nowhere else.

Thanks! And thanks for uploading Baby Birch and Ribbon Bows. Much love!

  • I got it, check your inbox.

  • Will you be uploading this other song?

  • when will the new album be out?

  • wow. she just keeps amazing me. this next album will be heartbreaking; i can tell already.

  • It was a lovely gig, one of the best I've ever been to... but I think her gig at the Royal Albert Hall last year was better, that is the best gig I've ever been to :)

  • same here, it was indescribable, breathtaking.

  • hey buddy, is your name at youtube a reference to how Csnadians pronounce KId A by Radiohead. If it is, I love you all the more.

  • Yeah it is.:) Thanks. Those crazy Csnadians.

  • I would do anything to have a Kid Eh shirt.

  • she is non-stop. i cannot wait unitl her next album....

  • Oh sweet Jesus. I love this woman and her songs so much.

  • Don't you like it how when you just thought that there is no more inspiring music to discover, something like Joanna happens. It proves that there are still smart, challenging and mesmerizing musicians in the world and we just have to find out about them.

  • I actually tried to kill someone to go to this show.

  • LOL

  • I hear Kate Bush everywhere in this song.

  • Really? I don't. But I love them both. Is it the vocals? They're both so unique.

  • I dig it.

  • Do you mind if I ask which camera phone you used? I'd like to get one!

  • Wasn't a camera phone it was a proper nikkon digital camera.

  • I totally agree with the comment about the clock bell; also the fact that every now and then a bird would swoop across the courtyard and the way the smoke swirled around her and her harp on stage. Little touches that made the entire evening so special.

  • Excellent stuff. You didn't manage to film Inflammatory Writ, did you? If so, please, please up-load.

  • No sorry. The only other song I tried to record was Cosmia and my battery went halfway through so it didn't save the file.:(

  • Never mind. These are fabulous! Thanks again.

  • Excellent stuff.

You didn't manage to film Inflammatory Writ, did you?

  • such an amazing feeling at this gig. I loved the fact that the bell in the big clock kept going off every so often, adding a sweet accompaniment. She is such a good songwriter, she never seems to lack inspiration.

  • OMG I so wanted to go but they'd sold out!!! Ahh so annoyed! She is wonderful

  • this was the only new song she played or there were other new ones?

  • Was a fantastic show :)

  • the entire show was perfect
