OK freaking seriously, this voice ought to be a cultural landmark. Every vocalist ought to learn how to properly emote their lyrics from such a great singer. This is sublime at worst and unbelievable at best.
This version is my favorite. Dinah's genius-clear for all to see-intense - bitter - heartwrenching. Lyrically-when I listen to this song I'm grateful - grateful I don't know what love is.
I've always been a fan of Sinatra and Nat King Cole, and a lot of other big names, but I just now started really listening to Dinah, and wow....why didn't I do this a long time ago. I'm slapping myself right now.
I saw her at the Michigan State fair in the early 1960s....with her husband Detroit Lion football player Nighttrain Lane....what a jewel...I was knocked out of my socks......she could really deliver the goods and she brought the house down
that's very true! I just started listening to her because amy winehouse admires her. amy's voice is very close to dinah's. they both have this strong and fragile in their voices at the same time....it's wonderful.
@vjackso53 Gloria Lynne's softer, smokier, mellow voice does it for me. But Drinkin' Again This Bitter Earth, Where are You, belong to Dinah. There are songs to me only Billie can sing; In My Solitude, Body and Soull When your Lover has gone. Dakota's versions of My Funny Valentine,Ain't No Use, You Showed Me The Way etc. We are talking about some of the Greatest Singers Ever! Who can sing "One For My Baby and One More For The Road?Only Sinatra! Judy's "The Man That Got Away" Only her!

Earl Edwards was on sax in her trio,Jimmy Thomas on drums and jimmy Sigler on piano/organ. Truly on of the most distinct cleat voices of our time

The inflections and little twist in her voice make each line so interesting.
