"Lily of the Valley" is one of May's favourite songs by Mercury. Mercury played piano and did all of the vocals. The song has a reference to Seven Seas of Rhye in the line "messenger from Seven Seas has flown to tell the King of Rhye he's lost his throne".

Among other places, its a quote mentioned in a long article in Classic Rock magazine from a few years back called "Freddie Mercury 1946 - 1991: Real Life - Or Just Fantasy?" by Jon Hotten, which quotes Brian May as saying that "Lily of the Valley" was about Freddie looking at his girlfriend, Mary Austin, "and realising his body needed to be somewhere else."
