The headband she is wearing was used to cover her scars & stiches from her near-fatal head-on collision in June, 1961. In Oct. '61 she recorded "Crazy" in a single take while still on crutches from the crash. The instrumentals were recorded 2 weeks earlier and then fused together to create her classic tune.
When she sang it at the Grand Ole Opry, she received 3 standing ovations.
Over 50 years later "Crazy" is still a classic piece of singing genius. Bravo Patsy!

I JUST LOVE,LOVE,LOVE"PATSY CLINE"! TRULY AN "ORIGINAL" AND IN MY OPINION, UNSURPASSED..................UNSURPASSED!!! THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES AND THE GREAT "VIDEO" TOM D. BRICK,NJ. {AT THE SHORE}.
@AngelonPlanetEarth No offense to anyone, but I've never been much of an admirer of C&W. That bias acknowledged, Patsy Cline just destroys me. Her phrasing is haunting, her soul is real, and her voice is true. She radiates dignity in the face of the rawness and sufferings that life deals out and never loses her humanity. In fact, it only makes her stronger and even more of a person and an artist. I'll be hittin' this one again.
Angela, I totally agree with you! I fell in love with her singing when I was 15 and was babysitting and the people said I could use their stereo while doing so. They had "I fall to pieces" on a 45. My mouth dropped open! I went home and read up on anything I could find about Patsy Cline! This was in 1966, so it was only a couple of years after her death. She is only country singer whose album I have bought and still have.
Point of fact, they are not a cover up for scars. She wore the headband to help alleviate the headaches from the crash, but not to cover up anything. And her brows were like that in photos before the crash. Regardless, she is a true "American treasure".
i was lying in bed and couldnt get to sleep so i started flicking through my music channels and they were on all those annoying advert selling thingy's ( i totally forgot what theyre called ) anyways ! then came up this country CD collection and i heard this song ... im now in love with the cline.
@Bushie1988 Snap. Me too. Its called infomercials (or teleshopping on channel info) My Mum had so many Patsy songs that I was surprised I'd never heard this 1 but came across it the same way you did & I (obv) also looked it up. I think this one is advertised on 'The Grand Ol' Oprey' DVD's
I sure remember listening to Patsy Cline sing on the Grand Ole Opry broadcast live over WSM Radio about 1961. When she was killed in a plane crash, it was the first time in my life that I had experienced the real sense of loss that comes with death. Even after all these years, the feeling never really went away. I knew that I was listening to something special then, and in comparison to all of the other singers that I have heard since, Patsy Cline was and still is, something special.
My dad always listened to classic rock and heavy mettle. When i was 8, he died and my mom was going through some of his things and i discovered that he loved Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash. I'm 15 now, and have come a long way since then and every time i hear Patsy's voice it makes my day just a little bit better.
Years ago when I was in school I would walk home for dinner. Mama always had the radio on and many times I can remember Patsy singing. She has always been my favorite female singer. I'm an old man now and have heard many good singers, but still waiting to hear a voice that matches Patsy. I don't think there will ever be one. Keep playing Patsy's music.
@farmmur You're right. There will only ever be one Patsy. Others will come close, and there are lots of other good singers out there, but Patsy is in a class all her own.
@mashmusic11235 I'm glad there are at least a few young people who appreciates the older music. I was about your age when I started playing with a rock band. As soon as I could I switched over to country and played semi-professional lead guitar for many years. I still do a gig every once in awhile of country or bluegrass. Please stay active in country music.
patsy cline had a very classy beautiful voice one of a kind singer, i cant say much for singers today thats why i choose to listen to old school music.
All i can say to 'Him' is that i know i wasn't the first broken heart he caused, and i know i won't be the last...... I just hope the poor cow who has fallen under his spell this time will learn what a cheating using lying waste of time he is quicker than i did.... DJGP = Cheater! Liar! Total Arsehole!!
That voice was effortless! She just sang naturally. Fifty years after her death, her recordings are still selling. She is, and always will be, simply the best.
Sara Quin, you've had an interesting impact on YouTube--Now after watching the Pariah trailer, "She's Got You" by Patsy Cline is the first suggested video:)
This woman had "pipes"......by all accounts saucy and her ability to fit in with her time period, to market her voice. Not everyone can sing true country, rock-a-billy and don't forget she has the voice to sing with a full orchestra. She would be just as hailed if she appeared in todays music.....talent is timeless.
@WakiPaula i think her eyebrows are like that cuz se was in a car accident. i ve seen other videos and i think you can see a big scar across her forehead hidden with makeup. nobody wore seatbelts im pretty sure
My Grandmother played the heck out of Patsy while i was a little one growing up! I have been a fan since then. I thank SKQ for sharing this for the little one's of today who potentially have not yet heard such woulderful music from the great Patsy Cline.
I used to watch some of her clips and wondered about the um 'headband?' My dumb ass just figured out this is not long after that horrible car wreck .. . the headband is covering her forehead stitches .. am I wrong?
I am a Hong Kong Chinese. I knew her from a movie "Sweet Dream" by Jessica Lange and El Harris in late 80's. I am her big fan ever since. I bought many of her CDs and I deliberately went to Nashville to visit the Hall of Country Music because of her. She lives in her fans' hearts forever, I believe.
@shoecop007 Leann Rhimes had a higher voice pitch. If I remember correctly, Patsy Clines' vocal range was quite rare for a female and was called "contralto" voice. Judy Garland's voice is also a contralto. You can hear the similarities in the tone when Garland sings Somewhere over the Rainbow in the Wizard of OZ.
years ago I had some health problems, and with that came bouts of insomnia. I'd put her CD in and the head phones on, and while lying on the sofa, that beautiful voice would sing me to sleep each night... Who better to lull you to sleep, than Patsy? She was the greatest female focalists of all time...
I heard this lovely lady sing in in the 50s where I grew up in London she made me a lifetime country music fan, I am now 76 and still get the hairs rise on the back of my neck when I hear Patsey sing God bless America for all the wonderful talent she's given the world from patsey through to Alabama and still more keep coming. Regards Terry
God sent an angel to show women on earth how to sing. Then much too soon god realized what he done and called her home to sing at his side. No smoke, no explosios, no naked or bare midriff, no this lady had something no one has even come close to before or since. She had "the voice." In the words of WSM's Eddie Stubbs,"are there any questions?"
If she was still living, she would be 78 yrs old...and I would marry her in a heartbeat just so I could hear her sing to me every day. That is, of course, if I could fight my way to the front of the line.
Geeeez, what are you guys getting so worked up about. Sure she's good, but can't someone have a contrary opinion? Too much name-calling over a simple difference of opinion. Unfortunately, it's everywhere these days.
@PONYBOY430 watch yourself when you talk about the u.s.a. - then why r u listening to patsy? thats what she is!!! your an idiot. Listen to your "musicians ONLY FROM CANADA". LOL
@coffeecakeish This was after her accident in '61...she went thru the windshield and was scalped and lost part of her face. The doctors did what they could but she never looked the same again. The headband and heavily painted eyebrows are hiding some horrific scars. We are just lucky we got to have her for another 2 years, regardless of how she looked. She still sounded awesome.
I believe this was not long after she had been in a car accident and her head was cut, etc. I read that somewhere many years ago! Her voice will never be equaled!
Love Patsy Cline...Love this song! My husband and I think she is the best female country singer that ever recorded a song. What a shame that we lost her so soon.
Anybody who has anything negative to say about Patsy Cline, her voice and/or her music is mentally deficient and has absolutely asshole taste. Too bad people like that cannot recognize perfection and REAL TALENT when they hear it. I'll pray for you stupid asses.
@pamtabor64 They don't realize her voice talent because recordings back then wer not as clear as digital recordings nowadays. Or if they had the privilege to actually hear her sing in person, they wouldn't be saying such trash about her. She had a strong and powerful voice.
@pamtabor64 I agree 100% ! Patsy was The Perfect Tear-Jerker and I adore her voice !! No other singer has ever made me cry over love more than her ! She is Pure and Perfect talent !!
@HalfFastChevy That's the truth ! In my life I seen more Cowboys and Country boys Crying over her songs than any other artist ! Patsy Knew how to Really Touch the hearts of her fans ! She was in a Class all by herself . In fact i loved her song "Crazy" so much I translated the Lyrics into spanish . and is almost exactly the same, word for word! I bet it would be a Tear Jerker in Spanish too But first I have to have my Copyright for the Translation. Just wish I knew some good guitarists.
Lord, I love this song...Patsy Cline must have felt this kind of heartache 'cause she sure sings it with such feeling! I've been crying to this song since Johnny$ broke my heart in 1969 @ SAFB....I've got your picture and it's signed with love, just like it used to be, the only thing different the only thing new I have your picture, she's got you, it's insane I know, but some heartaches never end.

Thr sound of her voice, deep and strong...I haven't heard another country singer like her ever since! Truly one of a kind.
mariesadler 8 months ago 2
@mariesadler I agree about Patsy's voice...but I do think Leann Rhimes WAS very,very close.
shoecop007 7 months ago
@shoecop007 Leann Rhimes had a higher voice pitch. If I remember correctly, Patsy Clines' vocal range was quite rare for a female and was called "contralto" voice. Judy Garland's voice is also a contralto. You can hear the similarities in the tone when Garland sings Somewhere over the Rainbow in the Wizard of OZ.

I didn't think perfection existed in this world, but I was wrong, perfection was and remains Patsy Cline. Rest in peace, dear soul.

Brilliant beyond belief. Perfect. Nuanced phrasing, with deep and REAL emotion. One can't ever hear enough Patsy Cline.

years ago I had some health problems, and with that came bouts of insomnia.

Regards Terry

sadly this lovely voice is silenced for ever....our loss
idontknow2040 8 months ago
God sent an angel to show women on earth how to sing. Then much too soon god realized what he done and called her home to sing at his side. No smoke, no explosios, no naked or bare midriff, no this lady had something no one has even come close to before or since. She had "the voice." In the words of WSM's Eddie Stubbs,"are there any questions?"

She's fuckuckin awsome!
justsomedude777 8 months ago
If she was still living, she would be 78 yrs old...and I would marry her in a heartbeat just so I could hear her sing to me every day. That is, of course, if I could fight my way to the front of the line.
HalfFastChevy 8 months ago 2
Geeeez, what are you guys getting so worked up about. Sure she's good, but can't someone have a contrary opinion? Too much name-calling over a simple difference of opinion. Unfortunately, it's everywhere these days.

Love Patsy Cline...Love this song! My husband and I think she is the best female country singer that ever recorded a song. What a shame that we lost her so soon.
Thanks for posting!

@Maureen712 She is one of my favorite Country artists. Taylor Swift and others have a lot to learn from her!

Anybody who has anything negative to say about Patsy Cline, her voice and/or her music is mentally deficient and has absolutely asshole taste. Too bad people like that cannot recognize perfection and REAL TALENT when they hear it. I'll pray for you stupid asses.
pamtabor64 10 months ago 60
@pamtabor64 Agreeeeeeee Pam...Patsys songs are so hard to sing..she had a wonderful voice.
beastyclarke 10 months ago 2
@pamtabor64 They don't realize her voice talent because recordings back then wer not as clear as digital recordings nowadays. Or if they had the privilege to actually hear her sing in person, they wouldn't be saying such trash about her. She had a strong and powerful voice.
mariesadler 7 months ago
@pamtabor64 Spot on!

@pamtabor64 I agree 100% ! Patsy was The Perfect Tear-Jerker and I adore her voice !! No other singer has ever made me cry over love more than her ! She is Pure and Perfect talent !!
nicktesla45 7 months ago
@nicktesla45 WOW...you really get it Nick. She was not in another class, she was the class. Nobody can or will ever touch her...NOBODY. R.I.P. Patsy.
HalfFastChevy 4 months ago 3
@HalfFastChevy That's the truth ! In my life I seen more Cowboys and Country boys Crying over her songs than any other artist ! Patsy Knew how to Really Touch the hearts of her fans ! She was in a Class all by herself . In fact i loved her song "Crazy" so much I translated the Lyrics into spanish . and is almost exactly the same, word for word! I bet it would be a Tear Jerker in Spanish too But first I have to have my Copyright for the Translation. Just wish I knew some good guitarists.
