Son, do you live in the same universe as the rest of us? Sure you haven't veered off to the parallel universe?
Dietrich's Six SS Pz. Army's performance in the battle was a complete disgrace. It LOST the battle for Elsenborn Ridge to US Infantry. It was the SS that got slaughtered in that battle.
And no, no German units in that battle got to 4km from the Meuse. They were 4 MILES away. And guess what? The SS had nothing to do with it. It was the FIFTH PANZER ARMY which had NO SS units.
Your numbers&facts are completely wrong or not crucially relating the matter we are discussing about. Better read European books about history or listen to the memories of the people here, in Belgique or US-Veterans, e.g. television-interviews could help you to close your crucial knowledge gap. Since G.W. Bushs heroric war in Irak people know how to handle certain glossed American sources, nobody cares about it any longer. With respect to bazookamsb I want to finish discussion at this point.
Why don't you do us all a favor and learn to read a real book?
It is a historical FACT that the 6 SS Army was stopped cold at Elsenborn Ridge. Care to read the history of the American 1, 2 &99 ID?
The only SS unit that got through was Peiper's KG which raced through the Losheim Gap before the 30 ID and 7 AD closed the rifle line behind him, resulting in the destruction of the bulk of 1 SS Pz Div's armor.
Blind faith of a partisan goes a long way in explaining your stupidity.
The Germans had no gasoline because A. it was a bad plan and B. they have failed to capture promptly St. Vith and failed to take Bastogne at all.
The 6 SS Pz Army's performance in the battle was abysmal except KG Peiper. They have tried to throw their combined forces at Elsenborn Ridge, and FAILED.
The 5 Pz. Army on the other hand charged to the Meuse.
Dietrich was a horrible general--ask Rundstedt or Manteuffel.
I) Dietrichs infantry easily wiped out the allied ground-forces, although he had so many disadvantages (lack of fuel, heavy wappons, personal...see below...). Germans main-enemy during this counter-attack were own "technical problems", many German soldiers became very angry with the maintenance & supply-situation braking their increase. Veterans emphasises how quick they couldve reached the Meuse without this problems. Allies could not offer resistance anyway.
II) There were two other important events with fatal consequences for the German infantry just 5 km before reaching the Meuse. First: They stopped their increase for a considerable timespan due to a misinformation given by an Belgian civilian after a single German tank was damaged by a mine. This man maintained that allied troups took position and the following terrain would be completely mined. This informations were absolutely wrong.
III) Second event and even more fatal. The attack of German was based on a bad-weather-period, but just at Bastogne fortunately the weather changed. Now the allied troops could make use of their air superiority (due too endless supplies) during Germans couldnt use many of their airplanes because of that extremely lack of fuel (which was issued by numbered cans (!)) and pilots in this stadium of the war. This was the (to be expected..) About-turn in the operation.
LoL!! Belgian farmer didn't stop the 5th Panzer Army. It was the US 2, 3 AD and 84 ID that smashed them in combat from Dec. 15-16. Read a history book.
Thank you for remembering that, DWM. My father was there, fighting in the 3rd AD. He joined up after Pearl Harbor, and had no prob with the fact that he was 2nd generation German. He was looking forward to kicking some Nazi ass. But as this is all re-enactment stuff, I refrain from commenting further.
The German army was in no shape to compile accurate casaulty or even kill claims from 44-45. That figure did not even include the American counteroffensive phase of the battle.
Estimates by modern historians include Keegan, 10,000; Zaloga, 98,000; US Army, 83,000 to 100,000. The lower end of the estimate was provided by Wehrmacht.
The Germans lost. They failed to reach ANY of their mission objectives; the Americans obtained ALL, except closing the Ardennes pocket completely.
Main problems of the Germans: Shortage of fuel, personal, heavy wappons and the inability to compensate material losses at this stadium of the war (Germanys production was almost bombed).
Also communication problems (friendly flak-fire to returning figther aircrafts). The Westfront also was not in the center of clashes, because many troups
And last not least: Generals realized immediately the relevance of the Me-262 as a combat-fighter for defense and attack purposes, Hitler didn't. Although many generals tried to convince him to do this step but they failed for a long time. This plane could have changed the situation if the deployment would have taken place in an ealier stadium of the war.
The Germans inflicted heavy losses on the Americans but they lost the battle. They gained no objectives of worth and lost as many as 100,000 men, as well as the last of their tanks.
This is not correct like this. Dietrich pushed forward more than 100 km in a very short time. Americans were entirely shocked because until this point they were not confrontated with the SS. Thousends of Americans were captured or victims, until the offensive stopped. Inevitably, because of the extremly lack of fuel and spare parts at this stadium of the war.
This is laughable. The Americans have already met the SS in Normandy and on the Sigfried.
The only thing that Dietrich pushed through was one battlegroup of the 1st SS Panzer Division. The rest of the Sixth SS Panzer Army made no progress at all. The 12SS Pz. Division was stopped cold by an American infantry rearguard from the 2d Infantry Division.
The Germans lost 100,000 men out of the 200,000 comitted to the battle.
Many, many Germans did welcome you in the Ruhrpocket. Here were no big fights with Americans, because the War was already over and the people were tired of the Hitler-Regime.
The only serious counter-attack took place when Sepp Dietrich started the Ardennen-Offensive which rolled over the young unexperienced US-Soldiers and caused big losses of humans and material for the Americans.
I absolutely agreewith you. The Germans were facing the overwhelming might of two superpowers at the height of their militar skill and had nothing left to fight back with. They have third rate to forth rate troops and no armor.
The Americans were only crushing the Ruhr Pocket because they wanted to show to the Russians that they could, and they did.
Blessedly Dietrich had not anywhere near the material and human reserves like in the beginning of the war nor fuel and according to this of course no air support. Beside of this often young (>14 y.) and old german man were in servive. But his huge experience on the East-Front and the material gave him superiority to American Generals. But the war was almost over - thank God.
You should consider to watch "The bridge of Remagen" to understand the situation in Germany in 1945.
Some important cities in the Ruhr-area were delivered without fight to the enemy. For instance Düsseldorf, the todays capital of the federal state. Hitler ordered to combat, but people didnt want to fight and informed in a secret mission the procceding US-troups that there will be no resistance. Meanwhile they succesfully organized a revolt against Hitler-followers in the city, some lost their life for freedom.
German soldiers? They all look like Mc.Donald`s / K.F.C staff..lol...just a minor detail overlooked, why would an elite SS unit use outdated machine guns like the MG 34?It would be more like the MG 42 wouldn`t it? Sie moechten alle wie deutsche Soldaten aussehen, aber sie sehn aus wie Gastarbeiter...LOL
That video shows nothing but confusion, senseless cuts going all directions. They shoot at nothing, grown men playing war. Fucking eejits, all reenactors.
Looks like a battle in an apple orchard in California, but not like the Ruhr pocket. One Jagdpanzer would have been enough to banish this actor-troups shown here immediately.
Only one thing, the 12 SS Panzer divison in the time of the Rhur pocket was with the rest of the 6SS Panzer army, trying to stop the russians in austria.
heh. Right, the fine print. That's pretty funny since I know several participants in that very unit...who tell me it's considered bad form not to put an up-front notice that a vid or pic is a re-enactment. Kinda funny too the stories they tell about the wannabe SS fanboys there, who get jazzed on wearing the runes and the totenkopf, and how the wannabes' greatest dream is to go back in time to actually wear the leather and smell the glove.
Got your riding crop out, rubbing across your thighs?
It's obvious from the first frame (or my other postings) that this is from a reenactment. Maybe... refrain from announcing to the world your lack of common sense.
Hell, you may get that job you've always dreamt of.
try "x tube" your homo erotic tendencies can be satisfied over there. You got be deeply disturbed to think shit like that! "Riding crops" whats that all about????
Out of curosity who are the participants that you know? Since you seem to live in san diego, i do as well. Id be more then happy to answer some of the above accusations in person myself.
Why would anyone post an obvious re-enactment as an and I know a 12th SSer Re-enactor, but I resent playing fast and loose with the historical record, and presenting something as if it was real and not a recreation.
All you had to do was to be put "reenactors" ANYWHERE in the title or the info, but that was too directI suspect.
I see that you have lot new equipment out there. I would have loved to have the hetzer seen in action back in 2001/02. Well maybe one day i'll be able to return to the Unit
i gotta admit you guys owned the entire allied force in about 45 minutes...that was cool, I was the only guy left alive from my entire unit!!! And then while the 101st took their 101 minute lunch the fallschirmjagers came down the hill, one guy said it looked like Zulu LMAO good fighting on your guy's part this was all filmed sunday right? Sunday was much better.
umm yeah there were... I dont think those guys taking a nice long lunch while the your guys were advancing were ghosts..would have been more helpful as ghosts tho.
How can I join? I really want to join...I have studied Waffen ss anything all my life..I want to do this

This plane could have changed the situation if the deployment would have taken place in an ealier stadium of the war.

About the Ardennes:
The Germans inflicted heavy losses on the Americans but they lost the battle. They gained no objectives of worth and lost as many as 100,000 men, as well as the last of their tanks.
DeathWishMonkey 2 years ago

It's not right, here are the official number of victims related to the "Ardennenoffensive" (16.12.1941 - 21.01.1945)
Losses of Germans: 68.000 (dead: 17.236, captured: 16.000, missed: 34.439)
Losses of Americans: 87.000 (dead: 19.276, captured: 21.144, missed: 47.139)

Many, many Germans did welcome you in the Ruhrpocket. Here were no big fights with Americans, because the War was already over and the people were tired of the Hitler-Regime.
The only serious counter-attack took place when Sepp Dietrich started the Ardennen-Offensive which rolled over the young unexperienced US-Soldiers and caused big losses of humans and material for the Americans.
cyberOwwwOecho 2 years ago
I am not an American.
DeathWishMonkey 2 years ago
Urm, this video is no longer available but the author's note is hilariously . . . inaccuarte.
The Germans got CRUSHED in the Ruhr Pocket. 300,000 men killed, wounded or captured; Army Groups B and G wiped out; HQ staff failed to extricate.
For the love of God, Model shot himself for it. The Germans got licked bad.

Looks like a battle in an apple orchard in California, but not like the Ruhr pocket. One Jagdpanzer would have been enough to banish this actor-troups shown here immediately.
cyberOwwwOecho 3 years ago
very observant, since this is a reenactment (which in the tags says it is), how did you guess it was in california with your far superior intellect?
Oggie389 3 years ago
Only one thing, the 12 SS Panzer divison in the time of the Rhur pocket was with the rest of the 6SS Panzer army, trying to stop the russians in austria.
tonidmc 3 years ago
this is very credibly done, were it not stated re enactment, I would not have guessed it just from the footage.

Wonderful how the video was captured and edited. It really looks like one of those late-war color Wochenschau newsreels.
Actually the first reenactment vid I really enjoyed watching

You're right. Everybody knows a vid entitled "The Ruhr Pocket! Circa April 1945" really means "Our Re-enactment Outside of Sand Diego Last Weekend"

@bazookamsb your equipment for the re-enactment is astounding, but there are no tags saying re-enactment, please make them.

Got your riding crop out, rubbing across your thighs?
jum1801 3 years ago
Sweet Jesus!
Is the vid that good or are you guys just slow?
It's obvious from the first frame (or my other postings) that this is from a reenactment. Maybe... refrain from announcing to the world your lack of common sense.
Hell, you may get that job you've always dreamt of.

Why would anyone post an obvious re-enactment as an and I know a 12th SSer Re-enactor, but I resent playing fast and loose with the historical record, and presenting something as if it was real and not a recreation.
All you had to do was to be put "reenactors" ANYWHERE in the title or the info, but that was too directI suspect.
jum1801 3 years ago
in the tags it says reenactor, you noob

Nice work!
I see that you have lot new equipment out there. I would have loved to have the hetzer seen in action back in 2001/02. Well maybe one day i'll be able to return to the Unit
