  • In the video you said 2 1/4 cups sugar for the frosting but in the description it says 2 1/2 cups?

  • 0:32 ya know, cake flour :D

  • Comment removed

  • Does this frosting have like a buttery taste to it? Cause most frostings I make have a very strong buttery taste? Thanks:)

  • @twilightgluver123456

    Hum, I don't remember, sorry.

  • i steamed the cake instead of baking it and it was amazingly soft and tasted soooo good!

  • @MaudeJ

Excellent, I have never steamed a cake.

I realize you can do it that way and thank you!

  • @freitasex <3

  • I love red velvet cakes but more so the red velvet cupcakes. I think they are more tastier and more fun to decorate and eat.

  • I made this for a church function this past weekend...it was a hit. Next time I'm gonna double the ingredients and I made Buttercream Frosting for the cake since I'm not a big fan of cream cheese :-P

  • @tjmilliner1011

    Thanks!

  • nevermindsorry i missed the part where u put them in!! this cake looks great!!

  • @04johnR

First of all, I want to thank you for watching my recipe.

I hope you do subscribe to me for more episodes!

  • do u not use eggsfor this recipe???

  • This is a great recipe. I wanna make this for my brother on his birthday. But I have a question, I only have two 9 inch cake pans and no 8 inch so can the 9 inch cake pans work? Please answer question, I have to make it and my brother's birthday is coming soon.

  • @PurpleLashess

You can use your nine inch pans, it may get baked more quickly, perhaps 3 minutes earlier or so, thanks!

  • @Motomachi We do have shortening here, if i'm right in assuming you are from the U.K we call it Margarine. The US just use a different term of reference! Thank you for uploading Freitasex this is a nice easy to follow recipe.

  • @truthsought1 Actually I'm from Sweden. :)

  • @Motomachi

350 degrees is Fahrenheit, maybe one day the USA will convert to Celsius and join the modern world.

I recently purchased a scale, something home cooks do not use here, we use cups.

Now with the scale, I will be able to convert to grams for recipes in the future.

    Shortening is lard substitute.

Shortening is made from vegetables somehow, but I believe that lard is better.

    Lard is rendered pork fat.

    Thank you for your questions!

  • @freitasex Hahaha, I agree

  • I made this cake today.but it was not soft as I can see your one in video.may be I just use cake flour substitute as I couldn't find it in my country.hope to do it again with cake flour I found same brand as you have 10aud.bit pricy:(

  • @morimali

Yes, cake flour is the best to use.

  • Can I skip vinegar and can I use regular flour?

  • @morimali

Sure you can do that, I have never tried it your way.

  • Someone may have already asked this...but (1.) what kind paper did you use to line the cake pans and (2.) how did you get it in there without it warping or without bubbles?!

  • @armychic73

I used wax or waxed paper, you can also use parchment paper or any kitchen paper.

The cake batter holds the paper down and i never worry about bubbles, it just does not happen to me.

    Thank you for your question!

  • OMG!! I did it.. and it was sow gooooood... know im going to make cupcakes:) thank u!!

  • @irma56274

    Thank you, I appreciate that.

  • The background music reminds me of a game I used to play called Cutthroats. :)

  • what's in the cake flour that makes it different from plain or all-purpose flour?

  • @UndineDownie

Cake flour is finer and produces more tender cakes.

    Thank you for your question!

  • I'm gonna dooooo thiiiis *sing* My best friend has his 19th birthday on Silvester and I was searching and searching for a cake. We want to make him one witch Cherrys. Do you think, I could add there some cherrywater, so that it will taste like cherrys?

  • Quick question! What does the frosting taste like? Because whenever I make frosting that includes powdered sugar it turns out sorta weird? :p

  • @twilightgluver123456 it should taste like creamy sugar... just sweet and soft.

  • How do you not have more views?!?! Everything you make is amazing!:D

  • Hi Thank you so much for saying that about the strainer=) I was wounderning how I was going to sift flower tomorrow for cookies that my dd and I are making for her teachers tomorrow with out going out and buying a sifter=) again thanks.

  • @jsrcamp

Happy to be of help and thank you!

  • is it okay to use self raisin flour?

  • @SuperCandybar1

I would not use that, sorry.

    Thank you for your question!

  • i wanna make this cake!! :) umm is it possible for you tell me the measurements in grams? and is it okay to use medium fat soft cheese?

  • @SuperCandybar1

Most of us here in the USA do not have a scale to weigh things.

I our way is the wrong way and weighing things is the proper way.

I cannot tell you in grams, I apologize.

  • @freitasex 2 and 1/4 cups cake flour (250g is 2 1/2 cup) 2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder(15 g) 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon table salt 2 eggs 1 cup buttermilk (240ml) 1 teaspoon white vinegar 2 Tablespoons red food coloring (25 to 30 ml) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 and 1/2 cups sugar (300g white granulated ) 1 stick butter (113 grams) Hope that helps for all us cup virgins :P
  • @SuperCandybar1 google search for conversions from cups to grams. they will be different for different things. for example, flour, sugar, and water will all weigh different amounts for one cup.

as a rough guide for liquids, one liter weighs about one kilogram.

for flour, one heaped tablespoon is roughly one ounce, or about 30g.

I can't help more than this, as I live in Scotland and do not use cups to measure things either.

  • I have dual acting Baking Powder that has Sodium Bicarbonate in it too (Same as baking soda) Should I just use 2 teaspoons of that?

  • @Borninthewrongdecad1

I do not think I am really answering your question.

  • Comment removed

  • @ChoujuGiga123

There is no substitution for the red food coloring.

Yes I risked my whole family and tried to kill them with this, but unfortunately they stayed alive.

I wish that they had at least gotten sick.

  • This cake looked scrumptious. It's time for you to get rich by opening up your own restaurant!

  • @Hokieman101

Well then if I did that, you would be in charge.

  • I need a good recipe for BBQ oven wings.

  • @tallman1ful

The best BBQ Sauce that I have made is the Bourbon Wings recipe.

The 2nd best BBQ Sauce is the Honey BBQ Wings recipe.

Both of those the wings were fried, but you can bake the wings 400 degrees around 35 minutes or till done, possibly 30 minutes or till done.

    Then toss into the sauce.

Thank you for your GREAT comments!

  • "Yum" is right! I'm not usually a big fan of layered cakes but this looks great, especially with cream cheese frosting.

    I love your cooling rack!

  • @Perroquet51

I took this to work and it disappeared, otherwise I would have eaten it all.

You must really like that rack, I know this is the 2nd time you have mentioned it.

  • @freitasex LOL, I don't remember commenting on it before, but I'll comment on it every time from now on :-)

  • your family will be so lucky to have such a great chef at home! :D ooh btw it is really hard to find a package of cake flour here in australia, reckon low protein flour will do the job? love your video!

  • @cyn853

YES! Low protein flour would be perfect, you may also use regular all purpose flour.

If you decide to use all purpose, I would measure the flour and then take away 1 Tablespoon of the flour.

    Thank you for your question!

  • My favorite cake as a kid was was always a spiced red velvet cake. Sorry, I've been off in the hospital. How do you like "Frida's fiestas"?
