  • This video isn't creepy/weird at all. Its an abstract view on our daily lives. Although, if you're a child, many of the events in this vid deal with a more adult nature such as getting up and going to work and going to a bar for a drink after work. My guess is the mirror was the gateway to his inner self where he questioned himself not even knowing who he was.

  • That video was weird.

  • seneca, roman philosopher :)

  • saw this in film school and can't get enough

  • "as often as I have been amongst men, I have returned less a man."

  • @kuburga What's that from? I like it :)

  • It's about identity and communication

  • Why didn't David Lynch make this ?

  • watched this when i was a kid and freaked the fuck out of me but still watched it over and over

  • This reminds me of Chris Fehn's mask from Slipknot.

  • I always found this creepy when I was younger, and now I understand why...

  • Amazingly... i got the point of this video!!!

  • @mravantgarde123 What about a constructive comment about what you think it's about instead, eh?

  • @ptrLeGrand i don't want to sound all weird but i think it's showing life and how you hide in a "mask", aka-a different personality to appeal to others-i guess.

  • This Short Scared me S#%tless when i was a small kid.

Now, i don't think it's scary, Just Real, Realy Bizare.

  • i to used to watch thiss as a kid just redisoved it

  • beautifull

  • I remember I used to watch this all the time as a kid and I absolutely hated the part when his nose became red.

  • @frostymintofdeath I saw this when I was a kid... and being 27 now it is STILL creepy as hell. And Frostymintofdeath... That part messed with me too. AND the part with the eyes... just way too insane for a kid.

  • is there any meaning behinad this? XD

  • @RyuxChan Yeah, I think this is a very cynical and bitter take on what happens to us and our "identity" as we interact with people. Each person the clay man interacts with keeps changing him, either shoving masks on his face, prodding his face into different shapes, smearing his lips and eyes and cheeks with all kinds of gunk, and he even distorts his own face to please people around him (like when he turns into the Mickey-Mouse-clown thing).

  • Meanwhile in britain...

  • This perfectly captures the days at the white collar office.

At least it almost had a happy ending.

  • This sort of shit you should watch after a few spliffs ... Remember having this on vhs as a kid a long with the sledgehammer video and the old bloke telling stories and the NEXT! Segment ... Good ol' times

  • the ending really creeps me out

  • this was the inspiration for the Apple Mac "Finder" logo

  • Why did my parents give me this!?!?!

  • Wow, this used to scare me soooo much watching when I was 5 :/

  • @jellybeangravy noooo joke....

  • This has to be one of my favorite shorts from Aardman. Not counting the 30 minute or more films.

  • What video is this of? (i used to have it)

  • @cheetahcc I too used to have this on vhs as a kid, but couldn't find it! This is from the Aardman Classics DVD which I had later bought. It's got all the other shorts from the vhs that I could remember too :)

  • Comment removed

  • @cheetahcc wasn't the vhs just called Aardman Animations?

  • complete shot in the dark but does anyone know where I could get the song playing at 4:30 at?

  • Watching this at the age of 5 was just...scary. But watching it now, i realise the genius behind it. Still twisted though...

  • the dog looks like Vince from Rex The Runt (my favorite character ) !!

    This movie is excellent !

  • i have this on video, and i used to watch it everyday when i was about 5 or 6 i dont know why cause im 15 now and it still gives me nightmares :L

  • @glenxh558 Think I have the same video, I used to get terrified about this! Haha and I'm nearly the same age as you!

  • 2:16 lol

  • 02:16 lol

  • 0:50 That is wierd

  • 15 years at least since I originally saw this one on VHS and I'll probably never know what it was Chas did. :P

  • Chess Sets. Chess Sets? Chess. Sets. What? Chess?

  • Tuesday

  • REX THE RUNT

  • This totally reminds me of a SlipKnot or Tool music video hah! Eerie and very nicely done....

  • I understand the message of it and all but even today is still scares the crap out of me. .____.

  • its a brilliant take on human society how we all adapt to each others need in different human societies and cultures and it shows that very well

  • ches is? ches is?

  • this is what justin beiber sees when on lsd

  • Its defintely a contrast between the real world and imagination. The maze is a metaphor for this never ending cycle of being trapped in the type of life that leads to no-where, and no matter how much you try to escape it always leads to something worse. The mirror is a metaphor for change in mindset. People 'look at themselves in the mirror' and are hit by sudden realisation that they must change. The mirror also represents opportunity and if one arises take it, it maybe lead to something better

  • @4cunmat The real world is the maze and only thinking out of the box will get you somewhere else .The funny thing is you are then confrontated with your own likeness ... its starts of good and then the conflicts begin, again???

  • i am scared

  • this is what my dreams look like

  • That may be the funniest animation that they've ever done. I almost laughed when I see the claymation. ^_^ Thank you, Aardman! You made this the funniest animation that you'll see on television or on YouTube.

  • I first saw this on an Aardman VHS when I was about 10...along with "Next" and a few other odd things...nedless to say I had absolutely NO IDEA what was going on lol

  • i remember this scaring the shit out of me when i was younger

  • @rubylegalle I'm so glad it's not just me who was scared of this XD

  • i can't stop laughing at that fucking dog

  • I Have this on my aardman classIcs DVD!

  • I actually found this rather disturbing ._.

  • domb

  • WHAT CHASE? WOOP! CHASE? WOOP! CHASE? WOOP!

  • that dog was in rex the runt

  • After that, they made up and then became the "Finder" icon on the Macs.

  • @HideogemuMeijin

    I cannot unsee that now.

  • PAUSE AT 3:40 HAHAHAHAHAHHA.

  • So creepy.. but watching now days i realise the message behind it..

  • @Monsterazz160 whats the message?

  • from 2:15 to 2:47 what in the hell are they talking about?

  • i love this

  • How can anyone find this scary?

Surreal? Kinda. Symbolic? Yep. Funny? Very. But scary? What?!

  • 1:52 - what! so funnyyy!

  • That's really creepy.

  • this is quite funny

  • if you wear the mask to much u become the mask....

if u pretend to be something else you will soon be that something else

  • god this was weird

  • *rocking back and forth in chair*

Can't sleep, sausageman will eat me...

Can't sleep, sausageman will eat me...

Can't sleep, sausageman will eat me...

Can't sleep, sausageman will eat me...

Can't sleep, sausageman will eat me...

Can't sleep, sausageman will eat me...

  • It's just a person getting ugly!!!!!!!!!

  • It's not that scary!

  • this is the weirdest script eva!

  • Dat Dat Dat Dat

  • funny lols it shits the hell outta me and i always have a WTFBBQ moment

  • is there any meaning behind this had it on video scared my borther

  • i had nightmares of being trapped in this dimension

i imagine this is what hell is like.

  • I think you'll find this is what waking life is like. That's why it's scary :S

  • AYEH-AYEH-AYEH-AYEH-AYEH-AYEH-AYEH-AYEH-AYEH-AYEH-AYEH-ME ME ME YA YOU YOU YOU JAAAAAA MO JAAAAAA (Babble) Jezzes. Jezzes? Jezzes. Jez ezz. Ezzee? Jezzes? Ezzee? Yes. Ezzee? YES. What jezz? Aw woo. Jezz, woo. Jezz woo. NAAAAAHHHHHHH

  • it's actually "Chaz has?"

  • i thought it was "Chaz is"

  • @Jjaegerr

Yeah, the rest creeps the shit outta me though...

  • the guy is a penis head

  • Es esmu dievs sviestmaizes

  • Susident!!!

  • That is not Rex the Runt. Just a dog with a similar character design to the dogs in Rex the Runt.

  • Is it odd for me to creeped out by this?

  • haaaha this is funny but its scary aswell

  • That was beautiful. I need a hug now.

  • So, what is the symbolism behind this? It really used to scare me as a Kid, but now i'm doing film studies, I want to know want this really means.

  • I love this one.

Used to watch it as a kid.

  • 2 things

    1. this scared the hell out of me and still does

    2. i dont get the strory sum1 please answer

  • @mackoonac It's a symbol for everyday life, trapped in the same routine. It takes themes such as domestic abuse, alcoholism and stress and shows them in an abstract way. It's a disturbing idea of what life is becoming: an endless cycle, a cog in the system.

  • @hotelmario510 thanks man for explaining that touched but anyway it was still scary

  • I must say, unsophisticated synth machines do make it creepier than Pennywise riding on Hannibal Lecter's back.

  • This was actually shown on TV?

  • I had this on Ardman Animations video, i used to watch it alot when i was little, i always found this piece really creepy though, At the same time its very clever"

  • i had the video aswell, it aslo had a wierd Shakespeare parody and a musiv video to Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer and Robert Parker's Barefootin' it was such a good video

  • i had that fuckin video too!!!!!

  • same, did you have the cat jazz thing as well?

  • I have the DVD, I remember finding it scary!

  • i have the video cassette! maan, i was young, but it still shit me up something laaarge :)

  • impressive social commentary. a bit over my head

  • I love this video! but i don't understand it

  • Watch the masks on the conveyor belt during the bit where he'sd talking tio his boss. They change expression then get mangled.

  • I just want to know what the dog means???

  • this is actually quite disturbing

  • I thought that this was really quite creepy and some parts scared me a little, its very odd and weird?

  • Did Nick Park work on this?

  • actually, this was richard golezowsky, who now directs the creature comforts and shaun the sheep shows.

  • And created Rex the Runt, which is in this short.

  • It's really a philosophical statement about how the character alters his personality to fit his surroundings, but is inevitably, more fundamentally altered himself. The clown mask represents this persona he hides behind, but he begins to look more and more like the mask as it changes his underlying peronality. Finally, he finds inner peace in his own skin, but on meeting another who is similar, cannot help but try to alter them; a grim commentary on humanity's intolerance

    Hope this helps :)

  • "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man."

    George Bernard Shaw

  • @053bss This quote is totally out of place here. Interactions with other people did not fall under "world".

  • @053bss wha...?

  • I think that's exactly what it means. Everyone tries to be anyone but themselves.

  • @ThunderHeads69 I Interpret the ending to be, he finds a quiet spot outside the rat race of everyday life, it's enjoyable at first but after a while he starts fighting with himself? like, he finds he can't stand his own company?

  • @ThunderHeads69 Wow that's a very good explanation! It all makes sense now I was always extremely confused about this film when I was younger (up until 25 seconds ago actually lol!).

  • @ThunderHeads69 Wow, it all makes sense. Thanks

  • @jellybeangravy No problems :)

  • some of the thing s like this scare me a little i dont know y though

  • LOL! funny but weird!

  • anyone wanna tell me what this is actually about? I saw it 5 years ago and still havent been able to figure out what the hell it is /:

  • Aardman iand Pixar always make good films :-)

  • My parents work for Aardmans, and I've always always had this in the back of my memory - only found out what it was called the other day. It's so disturbing... the 'mime artist' look I've been drawing all day... bloody wierd, but I appreciate it now.

  • the wierdest thing ive ever seen in my life

  • Chez EZ?

yeah,i still remember this XD never will forget it actually.

  • exactly how I feel. what a great piece of animation. what a great piece of art

  • Whoa. It's like "labyrinth" on acid

  • no offence but the things at 0:06 looks like a piece of shit lol

  • Aardma cassics on dvd and vhs has alot of old bizzare aardman shorts fetaured on it including Ident.

  • I totally agree with you.

  • its bizarre enough for me, now i want to see more :)

  • wow! i used to watch this round my friends house when we were small! it used to crack us up!

i haven't seen it for about 10 years!

no to find a copy of it!

(if anyone has it on vhs or dvd send me a message - i'll buy a copy)

  • actually ignore that post - i just found the dvd with all the shorts on - its 'Aardman Classics' (2000)

  • whooo!!! it's rex the runt!!!

  • this is art.

  • its a cross between pepperami and a worm

  • This used to TERRIFY me when I was younger. But it's a fantastic piece of work.

  • I totally agree with you. My parents bought an old Aardman video when I was younger, me and my sister watched Ident and thought "What the hell is this?!" But it's like Picasso's art in stop motion. Genius!

  • woah i'm suprised i havent grown up to be a murderer or something after watching all this as a child lol.

  • its a bad trip, but cool

  • thats soo random

  • i love clay animations but this is so freaky and creepy....

  • this clip is supposed to be someone so caught up in the world that he can't seem to find himself. as a result, he tries to be everyone else, which ruins him. in the end, he finds the only way toe scape is to be himself. which ends up not even working out apparently. one of my favorite aardman clips.

  • haha, the dog in there's the same as rex the runt.. thought i'd point that out

  • i remember loving this for its weirdness but always getting freaked out :( I first saw this when i was like 8 :) I have the video but its still creepy every now and then :) but great :)

  • Excellent animation, and story. I remember seeing this about 13 years ago. Am I right in thinking this was about the British working man's life and inability to escape?

  • This is just fantastic art. So visually rich.

  • They just don't do it like they used to. THIS was hard work. THIS was a labor of love.

  • weird ass shit

  • This is just a classic example of the British lifestyle. Get up, pissed off, have a mouth full off the partner, late for work, try too hard with the boss, go to the pub, get drunk and end up looking like a idiot. When you miss a part of the cycle, things start to go astray.

  • i remember watching this years ago i loved it then and this is my favorite short clip of all time ever

  • Oh my fucking god i love this!!1!

  • brilliant, so abstract, like a warhol film. when i watched this as a young kid, i never understood them, now i can view them differently

  • i used to watch ardman classics when i was about 6

  • strange how everyone was scared of that eye part with the strange music - so was I! but this is definitely one of the best Aardman short films...especially the bar scene

  • Man, this is insane! I love it! Where all Aardman anims this crazy before 2000, coz Stage Fright's pretty weird too.

  • the bit that used to scare me as a kid was when it zoomed in to his eyes and the scary music kicks in.

    gave me nightmares!

  • yeah me too i saw this when i was eight

  • what did u see it on

  • my ardman classics tape not too sure if that was the title but still have the tape

  • me too, fuck that tape scared me for years i wouldnt watch it till i was 12

  • lol, maybe i shouldnt have watched ident so young

  • Weird, that is exactly what I was just thinking...

  • wtf this is to weird

  • OMG I saw this when I was a kid. That video scared the hell out of me- still kinda does... lol

For awhile though I was bent on trying to figure it out, like does it mean something about conforming to people, ie being someone you're not, etc. Then again I overanalyse things... lol

  • same!

  • Wierd but classic aardman... Also it's REX!!!

  • I saw this years ago! kind of scary!
